  • Group analysis of the generalized Burnett equations
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Nonlinear Mathematical Physics. - : Taylor & Francis. - 1402-9251 .- 1776-0852. ; 27:3, s. 494-494
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper group properties of the so-called Generalized Burnett equations are studied. In contrast to the clas-sical Burnett equations these equations are well-posed and therefore can be used in applications. We considerthe one-dimensional version of the generalized Burnett equations for Maxwell molecules in both Eulerian andLagrangian coordinates and perform the complete group analysis of these equations. In particular, this includesfinding and analyzing admitted Lie groups. Our classifications of the Lie symmetries of the Navier-Stokes equa-tions of compressible gas and generalized Burnett equations provide a basis for finding invariant solutions ofthese equations. We also consider representations of all invariant solutions. Some particular classes of invariantsolutions are studied in more detail by both analytical and numerical methods

  • Linearizable boundary value problems for the elliptic sine-Gordon and the elliptic Ernst equations
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Nonlinear Mathematical Physics. - : TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD. - 1402-9251 .- 1776-0852. ; 27:2, s. 337-356
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • By employing a novel generalization of the inverse scattering transform method known as the unified transform or Fokas method, it can be shown that the solution of certain physically significant boundary value problems for the elliptic sine-Gordon equation, as well as for the elliptic version of the Ernst equation, can be expressed in terms of the solution of appropriate 2x2-matrix Riemann-Hilbert (RH) problems. These RH problems are defined in terms of certain functions, called spectral functions, which involve the given boundary conditions, but also unknown boundary values. For arbitrary boundary conditions, the determination of these unknown boundary values requires the analysis of a nonlinear Fredholm integral equation. However, there exist particular boundary conditions, called linearizable, for which it is possible to bypass this nonlinear step and to characterize the spectral functions directly in terms of the given boundary conditions. Here, we review the implementation of this effective procedure for the following linearizable boundary value problems: (a) the elliptic sine-Gordon equation in a semi-strip with zero Dirichlet boundary values on the unbounded sides and with constant Dirichlet boundary value on the bounded side; (b) the elliptic Ernst equation with boundary conditions corresponding to a uniformly rotating disk of dust; (c) the elliptic Ernst equation with boundary conditions corresponding to a disk rotating uniformly around a central black hole; (d) the elliptic Ernst equation with vanishing Neumann boundary values on a rotating disk.

  • Solution formulas for the two-dimensional Toda lattice and particle-like solutions with unexpected asymptotic behaviour
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Nonlinear Mathematical Physics. - : Taylor & Francis. - 1402-9251 .- 1776-0852. ; 27:1, s. 57-94
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The first main aim of this article is to derive an explicit solution formula for the scalar two-dimensional Toda lattice depending on three independent operator parameters, ameliorating work in [31]. This is achieved by studying a noncommutative version of the 2d-Toda lattice, generalizing its soliton solution to the noncommutative setting. The purpose of the applications part is to show that the family of solutions obtained from matrix data exhibits a rich variety of asymptotic behaviour. The first indicator is that web structures, studied extensively in the literature, see [4] and references therein, are a subfamily. Then three further classes of solutions (with increasingly unusual behaviour) are constructed, and their asymptotics are derived. © 2019, © 2019 the authors.
