  • On the stochastic maximum principle in optimal control of degenerate diffusions with lipschitz coefficients
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Applied mathematics and optimization. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0095-4616 .- 1432-0606. ; 56:3, s. 364-378
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We establish a stochastic maximum principle in optimal control of a general class of degenerate diffusion processes with global Lipschitz coefficients, generalizing the existing results on stochastic control of diffusion processes. We use distributional derivatives of the coefficients and the Bouleau Hirsh flow property, in order to define the adjoint process on an extension of the initial probability space.

  • New multiple labelling method for improved satellite cell identification in human muscle : application to a cohort of power-lifters and sedentary men.
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Histochemistry and Cell Biology. - : Springer-Verlag. - 0948-6143 .- 1432-119X. ; 132:2, s. 141-57
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Presently applied methods to identify and quantify human satellite cells (SCs) give discrepant results. We introduce a new immunofluorescence method that simultaneously monitors two SC markers (NCAM and Pax7), the basal lamina and nuclei. Biopsies from power-lifters, power-lifters using anabolic substances and untrained subjects were re-examined. Significantly different results from those with staining for NCAM and nuclei were observed. There were three subtypes of SCs; NCAM(+)/Pax7(+) (94%), NCAM(+)/Pax7(-) (4%) and NCAM(-)/Pax7(+) (1%) but large individual variability existed. The proportion of SCs per nuclei within the basal lamina of myofibres (SC/N) was similar for all groups reflecting a balance between the number of SCs and myonuclei to maintain homeostasis. We emphasise that it is important to quantify both SC/N and the number of SCs per fibre. Our multiple marker method is more reliable for SC identification and quantification and can be used to evaluate other markers of muscle progenitor cells.

  • Protein expression following gamma-irradiation relevant to growth arrest and apoptosis in colon cancer cells with mutant p53
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Journal of Cancer Research and Clinical Oncology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0171-5216 .- 1432-1335. ; 135:11, s. 1583-1592
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We previously found that p53, p73, survivin and PRL were implicated in the outcome of radiotherapy in rectal cancer patients. In the present study, we tried to understand mechanisms of colon cancer cell line response to radiation based on protein expression related to proliferation and apoptosis. KM12C, KM12SM and KM12L4a, cell lines with one origin, were radiated with 0, 10 or 15 Gy γ-radiation. Radiosensitivity was determined with cell cycle and apoptosis analysis, and protein expression of TAp73, ΔNp73, mutated p53, survivin and PRL-3 was determined by Western blot. KM12C showed transient G2-arrest, low apoptosis and up-regulation of resistance factors such as PRL-3. In KM12C expression of ΔNp73 increased after 10Gy, but not after 15Gy. KM12SM had permanent G2-arrest, low apoptosis and showed up-regulation of the anti-apoptotic survivin and down-regulation of the pro-apoptotic TAp73 and the radioresistance factor PRL-3 was down-regulated. KM12L4a, the most radiosensitive cell line, showed up-regulation of TAp73 and down-regulation/no up-regulation of resistance factors such as ΔNp73, survivin and PRL-3 after radiation. In conclusion, the KM12C cell line was more radioresistant than KM12L4a regarding apoptosis and certain apoptotic proteins. The radiosensitivity of KM12L4a might partly depend on the lack of up-regulation of proteins negative for the outcome of radiotherapy.

  • Normal nerve conduction velocity and vibrotactile perception thresholds in computer users.
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: International archives of occupational and environmental health. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0340-0131 .- 1432-1246. ; 78:3, s. 239-42
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVES: A literature report described significantly raised vibration threshold within the territory of the median nerve in a group of office workers and concluded that the results indicated a change in the function of large sensory fibres. The aim of the present cross-sectional study was to compare vibrotactile perception thresholds and nerve conduction measurements in the upper extremity between female computer users (secretaries) and female non-users (nurses). METHODS: Eighty-two secretaries, aged 25-65 (median 44) years and 35 nurses, aged 24-57 (median 46) years went through nerve conduction measurements on the dominant hand and also a vibration threshold test with readings over the hand at five sites which tested cutaneous innervation of the median, ulnar, and radial nerves. RESULTS: There was no significant difference in any parameter of the nerve conduction testing and there was no significant difference in any parameter of the vibration threshold test between secretaries and nurses. The numerical differences between groups were small and in both directions and thus do not indicate a power problem. CONCLUSIONS: We saw no signs of early neural deficits of large sensory fibres in subjects who intensively use computer keyboard equipment.
