  • Facial pain, health-related quality of life and trismus-related symptoms up to 5years post-radiotherapy for head and neck cancer
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Supportive Care in Cancer. - 0941-4355 .- 1433-7339. ; 31:12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: Pain is a frequent symptom of head and neck cancer (HNC) but longitudinal studies investigating facial pain are scarce. We aimed to investigate prevalence of facial pain, its effect on health-related quality of life (HRQL) and trismus-related symptoms in a HNC cohort. Methods: Patients (n = 194) were prospectively followed post completion of radiotherapy (RT). Outcome measures included facial pain, HRQL, trismus-specific symptoms, and maximal interincisal opening (MIO). Results: Facial pain was reported by 50% at baseline. Corresponding figures for 3-, 12-, and 60months post-RT were 70%, 54% and 41%. Moderate to severe pain was reported in 29–44% of patients reporting pain during the study period. Patients reporting pain scored significantly worse on more HRQL variables and trismus symptoms, as well as had significantly smaller MIO at all follow-up time points. Conclusions: Facial pain was common in HNC patients pre- and post-RT and remained prevalent up to 5years after completion of RT. Reductions in MIO were associated with more facial pain. Pain was also associated with worse HRQL.

  • Individual e-ordering acceptance : An analysis of literature-generated practical recommendations
  • 2010
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The benefits of electronic ordering (e-ordering) systems are widely acknowledged, but achieving these benefits remains a challenge, in large part due to end-users’ resistance to using such systems. The present paper aims at making a contribution to this area by analysing practical recommendations given in the literature on individual e-ordering acceptance, thus increasing our understanding of the possibilities managers have to influence adoption and use behaviour. The literature-generated recommendations are analysed using empirical data from a 4-year longitudinal case study conducted at an organization that in 2002 began implementing an e-ordering system and by 2006 had achieved the planned compliance rate.

  • "Ach Kinder" : zur Rolle des Kindes und der Familie im Werk Hans Falladas
  • 1998
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This study primarily investigates the role of children in regard to the plot as well as to the characterization of adults in six novels by Hans Fallada. Discussed is furthermore Fallada's position as an author within the literary epoch of the "Neue Sachlichkeit", especially regarding his narrative technique that includes a dominating use of dialogue and a covert narrator. Due to the fact that Fallada's first successful novels, written in the early thirties, reflect the contemporary German society not excluding its social problems, the critics for a long time regarded the author as a critical observer of society, thereby disregarding other aspects of his work, such as the characters and their individual conflicts. These aspects were not seriously taken into consideration by the critics until the sixties. The appointed texts are dealt with chronologically, thus facing the role of children from various angles and thereby concerning themes such as the marital relationship, the animosity between generations and conflicts aroused by the pubescent child. An unborn child as well as the longing for or the loss of children are all matters that noticeably influence the plot and the characterization of adults in these texts.By investigating the role of children in these novels I will show, that in Fallada's texts there is a power leading towards the sheltering family and also that this power is combined with heavy demands upon ethics.

  • The typology of question tags
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: ALT (Association for Linguistic Typology) 7, 25–28 September 2007, Paris, France.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The typology of confirmation-seeking question tags has earlier been treated by Ultan (1969/ 1978) and, in particular, by Moravcsik (1971), who presented both a paradigmatic and a syntagmatic typology. This paper discusses these typologies and suggests a new typology based on how the use of such question tags is restricted in relation to the preceding clause, the anchor. Four categories are proposed: neutral question tags (1–2), polarity-biased question tags (3–4), polarity-dependent question tags (5)–(6) and grammatically dependent question tags (7). This paper presents and compares data on grammatically dependent question tags, GDQTs, from ten languages: English, Norwegian, Danish, Welsh, Irish, Portuguese, Estonian, Finnish, Malayalam and Kiwai. The Norwegian (8) and Danish structures (9) are very similar to English GDQTs (7), the main difference being that a particle vel is often added in the positive tags. Welsh GDQTs display constant polarity, a positive tag following a positive anchor and a negative tag following a negative anchor. The structure of Welsh GDQTs is usually particle or negator plus inflected interrogative form of bod ‘be’ plus optional subject personal pronoun (10). The structure of Irish GDQTs is negative or positive tensed interrogative particle plus repeated finite (11). Portuguese has several GDQT structures, both constant and reversed ones (12). Finnish has only negative GDQTs after positive anchors (13). Estonian GDQTs repeat the verb of the anchor, preceded by a negative or positive polarity item (14), or followed by a particle ju and preceded by a negator if negative (15). All Estonian GDQTs display constant polarity. In Malayalam, the negative GDQTs only vary depending on what verb is used in the anchor (16), and for positive GDQTs what verb would have been used in the anchor if it had been positive. There are very few data on Kiwai GDQTs, but they are interesting as this shows that polysynthetic languages may also have GDQTs (17). A hierarchy for grammar dependency features in GDQTs is suggested: polarity < tense < number/person < gender. It is also proposed that if a language has GDQTs, it usually also has other confirmation-seeking question tags.
