    • Triglycerides and phospholipids 0.5-2mg (wet weight) of human liver material obtained by the fine-needle aspiration biopsy technique can be estimated after chloroform:methanol extraction by the determination of lipid phosphorus and glyceride glycerol. The methods are based on the colorimetric determination of inorganic phosphate after oxidation of the phospholipids and the enzymatic fluorometric determination of glycerol after complete hydrolysis of the triglycerides, catalyzed by purified pancreatic lipase. The accumulation of lipids is then expressed as the increase in the molar ratio of triglycerides over phospholipids.

    • A procedure is described, in which two antigens are brought to interact during their electrophoretic migration in an agarose gel containing antiserum. Three fundamental precipitation patterns can be discerned. These patterns correspond to the three basic precipitation patterns obtained with the double radial immunodiffusion procedure of Ouchterlony. The procedure described here can thus be used in the analysis of the immunochemical relationsship between antigens. It may also be used for estimating the percentage of cross-reacting antibodies in an antiserum. The procedure requires only a few hours.

    • The IgG M-components of 70 sera were quantitated by a paper electrophoretic method and by an immunochemical method with the use of an antiserum raised against purified polyclonal IgG. The results obtained by the two procedures were concordant and thereby showed that IgG M-components of different antigenic compositions can probably be quantitated by simple immunochemieal methods. Immunochemical determination of the total IgG content of sera containing IgG M-components by the Mancini technique agreed, both when the sera were assessed in their native and in their carbamylated form, with the immunochemical quantitation of Weeke. This indicates that different IgG M-components are immunochemically similarly altered by carbamylation.

    • It is shown that the method of protein quantitation by electrophoresis in antibody-containing agarose introduced by Laurell in 1966 can, if slightly modified, be used for quantitation of polyclonal human IgG. This modified method, permits simultaneous quantitation of IgA. It is accomplished within about 9 hours and allows comparison between the charge composition of different IgG-populations. The results agree with those obtained by single linear immunodiffusion, single radial immunodiffusion, and by electrophoresis of carbamylated sera in antibody-containing gel. It is shown that the applicability of the method is dependent upon the electrophoretic distribution of the antibodies in the antiserum used.

    • The activities of the four myocardial enzymes aspartate aminotransferase (also known as GOT), alanine aminotransferase (GPT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and creatine kinase (CPK) were measured in dog heart lymph following myocardial infarction. The activity of all enzymes increased to very high values, and the time course of activity changes was identical for all enzymes. This is interpreted as reflecting a simultaneous escape of these enzymes from damaged myocardial cells.

    • An evaluation of bilirubin spectrophotometry with the AO bilirubinometer as compared to an accepted diazo coupling method is presented. The bilirubinometer is a simple and accurate method suitable for monitoring total bilirubin in neonatal jaundice. The method may serve as a good complement to diazo coupling procedures in icteric newborns.
