  • Competing Decay-out Mechanisms of the Yrast Superdeformed Band in 59Cu
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: AIP Conference Proceedings. - : AIP. - 1551-7616 .- 0094-243X. ; 701, s. 289-294
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This contribution reports on the decay-out of the yrast superdeformed band in 59Cu. It decays by multiple γ-ray transitions into low-spin spherical states in the first minimum of the nuclear potential in 59Cu, and, in competition, by emitting two prompt protons into a spherical state in 58Ni. For the first time in A ~ 60, the role of doorway states in the course of the decay-out is discussed

  • Chiral dynamics in the meson sector at two loops
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: AIP Conference Proceedings. - : AIP. - 0094-243X .- 1551-7616. ; 698, s. 407-410

    • I give a very short introduction to chiral perturbation theory and an overview of the next-to-next-to-leading order three-flavour calculations done. I discuss those relevant for an improvement in the accuracy of the measurement of Vus in more detail. One major conclusion is that all needed p6 low energy constants can be obtained from experiment via the scalar form-factor in Kl3 decays

  • AdS Twistors for Higher Spin Theory
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: AIP Conference Proceedings. - : AIP. - 1551-7616 .- 0094-243X. - 9780735402522 ; 767, s. 96-105
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We construct spectra of supersymmetric higher spin theories in D = 4, 5 and 7 from twistors describing massless (super-)particles on AdS spaces. A massless twistor transform is derived in a geometric way from classical kinematics. Relaxing the spin-shell constraints on twistor space gives an infinite tower of massless states of a "higher spin particle", generalizing previous work of Bandos et al.. This can generically be done in a number of ways, each defining the states of a distinct higher spin theory, and the method provides a systematic way of finding these. We reproduce known results in D = 4, minimal supersymmetric 5- and 7-dimensional models, as well as supersymmetrisations of Vasiliev's Sp-models as special cases. In the latter models a dimensional enhancement takes place, meaning that the theory lives on a space of higher dimension than the original AdS space, and becomes a theory of doubletons. This talk was presented at the XIX-th Max Born Symposium "Fundamental Interactions and Twistor-Like Methods", September 2004, in Wrocław, Poland.

  • ATLAS B physics performance update
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: AIP Conference Proceedings. - : AIP. - 1551-7616 .- 0094-243X. ; 722, s. 242-248
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An update of the B physics performance of the ATLAS experiment is presented. After a short review of B production and decays at LHC, the main features of the ATLAS detector are described, and the present construction status is shown. Physics topics which are presented are: precision measurements, rare decays, and B production. It is shown that despite of recent changes in the trigger strategy and initial detector layout, ATLAS retains an excellent potential for measurements of sin2β and rare dimuon decays. A large spectrum of B physics studies is also feasible - here we present examples of precision measurements with Bs0 mesons, Bc mesons, and B production

  • Hierarchical models of anticipation
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Computing Anticipatory Systems (AIP Conference Proceedings). - : AIP. - 1551-7616 .- 0094-243X. - 0735400814 ; 627, s. 533-542
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Several architectural patterns have been proposed for the purpose of modeling autonomous robots. They do, however, lack support on anticipatory behavior. Anticipatory systems typically consist of hierarchical levels of units with similar structures but with different semantics. Close mapping between units of a reference system and components of software models put high demands on component independency, with respect to hierarchy. A concept of hierarchical modeling is proposed to provide support on anticipatory modeling and fills the gap on these matters. The concept has been developed in a context of industrial automation software and successful experiments have been based on a Java-based framework.

  • Can computers be social?
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Computing Anticipatory Systems (AIP Conference Proceedings). - : AIP. - 1551-7616 .- 0094-243X. - 0735400814 ; 627, s. 95-106
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Of main concern in agent based computing is the conception that software agents can attain socially responsible behavior. This idea has its origin in the need for agents to interact with one another in a cooperating manner. Such interplay between several agents can be seen as a combinatorial play where the rules are fixed and the actors are supposed to closely analyze the play in order to behave rational. This kind of rationality has successfully being mathematically described. When the social behavior is extended beyond rational behavior, mere mathematical analysis falls short. For such behavior language is decisive for transferring concepts and language is a holistic entity that cannot be analyzed and defined mathematically. Accordingly, computers cannot be furnished with a language in the sense that meaning can be conveyed and consequently they lack all the necessary properties to be made social. The attempts to postulate mental properties to computer programs are a misconception that is blamed the lack of true understanding of language and especially the relation between formal system and its semantics.

  • The magnet lattice of the MAX IV storage rings
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: AIP Conference Proceedings. - : AIP. - 0094-243X .- 1551-7616. ; 705, s. 157-160
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A successor of the present MAX facility is currently being studied. This proposed MAX IV facility will then have two new storage rings operated at 1.5 and 3 GeV respectively. The magnet lattices of the two storage rings are almost identical and the rings are placed coaxially, one on top of the other. A third ring, the MAX III ring, now under construction, should be transferred to the new facility. These three rings will then offer dipole IR radiation and undulator radiation from 5 eV up to 20 keV. The total number of straight sections is 32, of which 28 could be used for insertion devices. A 3 GeV linear accelerator will be used as injector for the three rings. The linac could also be used as a free electron laser source. The magnet lattice of the two new rings is described below. The electron beam emittance of the 3 GeV storage ring is 0.86 nm rad and 0.3 nm rad for the 1.5 GeV ring. The circumference of the rings is 286 m

  • Elliptically polarised soft X-rays produced using a local bump in MAX II characterisation of the degree of polarisation
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: AIP Conference Proceedings. - : AIP. - 1551-7616 .- 0094-243X. ; 705, s. 65-68
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • MAX-lab has introduced a local perturbation to the electron orbit of the MAX II storage ring, providing users at the SX700 monochromator beam line, D1011, with elliptically polarised soft X-rays. This is achieved by using corrector magnets to send the electron orbit on an ascending or descending trajectory through the dipole magnet source. This simple "bump" approach has many advantages over and above insertion device based solutions. To illustrate the potential of the approach, the degree of circular polarisation, Pc, has both been calculated and measured. The calculation was made by applying the Stokes formalism to the intensities given by the standard dipole emission formula. Experimentally Pc was characterised using X-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements. In such experiments magnetic contrast scales directly proportional to Pc. Using a 25 atomic layer bcc Fe film deposited on the Cu(100) surface as a calibration standard the spin moment, ms, was determined. By comparing the values of ms obtained here with those reported earlier, the degree of circular polarisation could be estimated. At ~715 eV the calculated and measured values of Pc are 0.93 and 0.85, respectively

  • High-spin studies of N ~ Z nuclei in the mass 70 region
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: AIP Conference Proceedings. - 0094-243X .- 1551-7616. ; :656, s. 261-268
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-spin states have been studied in 72,73Kr using 40Ca+40Ca and 36Ar+40Ca reactions at 160, 164 and 145 MeV respectively. The properties and configurations of the bands observed are interpreted with the aid of unpaired cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky/ cranked relativistic mean-field calculations and paired total routhian surface and cranked relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov calculations. In 73Kr the three previously known structures have been extended to a spin of ~30[h-bar] and a fourth structure, which is believed to be the signature partner to the g9/2 band, has been identified. The negative parity bands show evidence for an unusual type of band crossing. It is currently unclear whether this is a consequence of T=0 n-p pairing. At the highest spins the unpaired calculations can reproduce the observed data, suggesting that there is little evidence for pairing correlations in this spin regime. In 72Kr a new band has been identified that has the properties expected from the missing doubly aligned S-band configuration. The properties of this band can be reproduced by the unpaired CNS/ CRMF calculations, again suggesting that the structure has little pairing. However, paired calculations appear to be necessary to reproduce the properties of the previously known structure in this nucleus. The 72Kr results are also compared with projected shell model calculations. ©2003 American Institute of Physics
