  • Continuous Glucose Monitoring-A Study of the Enlite Sensor During Hypo- and Hyperbaric Conditions
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics. - New Rochelle, USA : Mary Ann Liebert Inc. - 1520-9156 .- 1557-8593. ; 14:6, s. 527-532
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: The performance and accuracy of the Enlite (TM) (Medtronic, Inc., Northridge, CA) sensor may be affected by microbubble formation at the electrode surface during hypo- and hyperbaric conditions. The effects of acute pressure changes and of prewetting of sensors were investigated. Materials and Methods: On Day 1, 24 sensors were inserted on the right side of the abdomen and back in one healthy individual; 12 were prewetted with saline solution, and 12 were inserted dry. On Day 2, this procedure was repeated on the left side. All sensors were attached to an iPro continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) recorder. Hypobaric and hyperbaric tests were conducted in a pressure chamber, with each test lasting 105 min. Plasma glucose values were obtained at 5-min intervals with a HemoCue (R) (Angelholm, Sweden) model 201 glucose analyzer for comparison with sensor glucose values. Results: Ninety percent of the CGM systems operated during the tests. The mean absolute relative difference was lower during hyperbaric than hypobaric conditions (6.7% vs. 14.9%, P<0.001). Sensor sensitivity was slightly decreased (P<0.05) during hypobaric but not during hyperbaric conditions. Clarke Error Grid Analysis showed that 100% of the values were found in the A+B region. No differences were found between prewetted and dry sensors. Conclusions: The Enlite sensor performed adequately during acute pressure changes and was more accurate during hyperbaric than hypobaric conditions. Prewetting the sensors did not improve accuracy. Further studies on type 1 diabetes subjects are needed under various pressure conditions.

  • Person-centered web support to women with type 1 diabetes in pregnancy early motherhood : the development process
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics. - : Mary Ann Liebert. - 1520-9156 .- 1557-8593. ; 15:1, s. 20-25
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Pregnancy and early motherhood are extraordinarily demanding periods for women with type 1 diabetes, who therefore need optimal support. This article describes the process of developing person-centered Web-based support for women with type 1 diabetes during the period of pregnancy through early motherhood. Important aspects of perrsoncenteredness are a broader scope of medicine, viewing the patient as a person, shared decision-making to accomplish a therapeutic alliance, and the role of documentation.Materials and Methods: A participatory design was used in the development process to capture the target group’s knowledge, experiences, and needs, and a systematic process map for Web-based support was used to describe the process. Results: Content and layout in the Web support were developed collaboratively by project managers, advisory and scientific reference groups, technical producers, and representatives for the target group. Based on needs assessment and evidence synthesis, three main components of complementary Web-based support were identified: (1) specific information about pregnancy, childbirth, and early motherhood in relation to type 1 diabetes; (2) a self-care diary, including a device for documenting and evaluating blood glucose levels, insulin doses, food intake, physical activities, and overall well-being; and (3) a forum for communication between women with type 1 diabetes in the childbearing period. Conclusions: Using a perspective of person-centered care, a participatory design and the process map were fruitful for developing person-centered Web support for self-care and self-learning. The developed Web support product will be evaluated in a randomized controlled trial and further developed based on this result.

  • Exploring language profiles for children with AD/HD and children with Asperger syndrome
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal of Attention Disorders. - : Sage Publications. - 1087-0547 .- 1557-1246. ; 16:1, s. 34-43
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: The aims of the present study was to investigate communication impairments in a Norwegian sample of children with ADHD and children with Asperger syndrome (AS) and to explore whether children with ADHD can be differentiated from children with AS in terms of their language profiles on the Norwegian adaptation of the Children’s Communication Checklist Second Edition (CCC-2). Method: The CCC-2 was completed by the parents, and altogether, 77 children aged between 6 and 15 years participated in the study. Results: Communication impairments were as common in a group of children with ADHD as in a group of children with AS. Although a similar pattern appeared on most CCC-2 scales, children with ADHD and children with AS could be distinguished from each other in terms of their language profiles on the subscales assessing stereotyped language and nonverbal communication. Conclusion: Language abilities should be taken into account when standard assessments of ADHD and AS are performed and before therapies are initiated

  • Language profiles and mental health problems in children with specific language imapirment and children with AD/HD
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Journal of Attention Disorders. - : Sage Publications. - 1087-0547 .- 1557-1246. ; 18:3, s. 226-235
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: This study aimed to explore whether children with specific language impairment (SLI) and children with ADHDcan be differentiated from each other in terms of their language profiles, and also to investigate whether these two clinicalgroups differ regarding mental health problems. Method: A total of 59 children in the age range 6 to 12 years participatedin the study. The parents completed the Children’s Communication Checklist–Second Edition and the Strengths andDifficulties Questionnaire. Results: Communication impairments were as prominent in the ADHD group as in the SLIgroup; however, the groups were separable from each other in terms of their language profiles. Furthermore, the ADHDgroup experienced significantly more mental health problems compared with the SLI group. Conclusion: Language shouldbe assessed in children with ADHD and instruments sensitive to ADHD should be included when assessing children withSLI. Mental health should be an area of concern to be addressed in both groups. (J. of Att. Dis. 2012; XX(X) 1-XX)

  • Single-Chip 220-GHz Active Heterodyne Receiver and Transmitter MMICs With On-Chip Integrated Antenna
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques. - 0018-9480 .- 1557-9670. ; 59:2, s. 466-478
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents the design and characterization of single-chip 220-GHz heterodyne receiver (RX) and transmitter (TX) monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs) with integrated antennas fabricated in 0.1-mu m GaAs metamorphic high electron-mobility transistor technology. The MMIC receiver consists of a modified square-slot antenna, a three-stage low-noise amplifier, and a sub-harmonically pumped resistive mixer with on-chip local oscillator frequency multiplication chain. The transmitter chip is the dual of the receiver chip by inverting the direction of the RF amplifier. The chips are mounted on 5-mm silicon lenses in order to interface the antenna to the free space and are packaged into two separate modules. The double-sideband noise figure (NF) and conversion gain of the receiver module are measured with the Y-factor method. The total noise temperature of 1310 +/- 100K(corresponding to an NF of 7.4 dB), including the losses in the lens and antenna, is measured at 220 GHz with a respective conversion gain of 3.5 dB. The radiated continuous-wave power from the transmitter module is measured to be up to -6 dBm from 212 to 226 GHz. The transmitter and receiver are linked in a quasi-optical setup and the IF to IF response is measured to be flat up to 10 GHz. This is verified to be usable for transmission of a 12.5-Gb/s data stream between the transmit and receive modules over a 0.5-m wireless link. The modules operate with a 1.3-V supply and each consume 110-mW dc power. The presented 220-GHz integrated circuits and modules can be used in a variety of applications, including passive and active imaging, as well as high-speed data communications. To the best of our knowledge, these MMICs are the highest frequency single-chip low-noise heterodyne receiver and transmitter pair reported to date.

  • The relationships of Odontotrema (Odontotremataceae) and the resurrected Sphaeropezia (Stictidaceae)-new combinations and three new Sphaeropezia species
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Mycologia. - : Mycological Society of America. - 0027-5514 .- 1557-2536. ; 105:2, s. 384-397
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Odontotremataceae is polyphyletic and constitutes two distantly related clades, the true Odontotremataceae and a segregate group within Stictidaceae including "Odontotrema" cassiopes, "O." diffindens, lichenicolous "Odontotrema" species and "Bryodiscus" arctoalpinus. Sphaeropezia here is accepted as the name for this latter group. An updated phylogeny of the Stictidaceae based on mtSSU, nuLSU and the protein coding gene RPB2 is presented together with a taxonomic revision of Swedish taxa of Odontotrema and Sphaeropezia. Bryodiscus and Lethariicola are synonymized under Sphaeropezia, and three new Sphaeropezia species are described: the lignicolous S. capreae, the fungicolous S. lyckselensis and the lichenicolous S. mycoblasti. The new species are distinguished from other species by molecular and morphological characters, and substrate preferences. The new combinations Sphaeropezia arctoalpina, S. cassiopes, S. grimmiae, S. hepaticarum, S. melaneliae, S. ochrolechiae and S. thamnoliae are proposed. The morphology of these species was studied in detail. We further propose to combine the remaining lichenicolous Odontotrema species, exept O. stereocaulicola, in Sphaeropezia based on their close relationship to the studied lichenicolous taxa. These additional new combinations include Sphaeropezia bryoriae, S. cucularis, S. figulina, S. intermedia, S. japewiae, S. lecanorae, S. navarinoi, S. pertusariae, S. rhizocarpicola, S. santessonii, and S. sipei. A lectotype is designated for the name Odontotrema diffindens Nyl.

  • A High-Speed Power Detector for D-Band Communication
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques. - 0018-9480 .- 1557-9670. ; 62:7, s. 1515-1524
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A D-band power detector (PD) consisting of a four-way power divider and four identical active PD units is proposed, where four individual PD units are derived by the input signals having the same amplitude, but a 90 degrees phase difference. The outputs of the PD units are combined, to suppress the first, second, and third harmonics due to phase cancellation. Consequently, the ripple at the output is minimized. The proposed PD is designed and manufactured in a 0.25-mu m InP DHBT technology, which is characterized by on-chip measurements with both a sinusoidal signal and a binary amplitude shift-keying modulated signal at a data rate up to 13 Gb/s over different carrier frequencies from 100 to 150 GHz. Measured bit error rate for a 2(7) - 1 pseudorandom binary sequence is less than 10(-12) at the carrier frequency of 120 GHz, and less than 1.7 x 10(-5) at the carrier frequency of 150 GHz. In addition, the proposed PD achieves state-of-the-art power/energy efficiency, which exhibits the lowest energy per bit of 1.1 pJ/bit. Total dc power consumption of the PD is 15 mW.
