  • MedView-design and adoption of an interactive system for oral medicine.
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Studies in health technology and informatics. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 77, s. 3-7
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • MedView is a joint project with participants from oral medicine and computer science. The aim of the project is to build a large database from patient examinations and produce computerized tools to extend, view, and analyze the contents of the database. The contents of the data base is based on a formalization of health-care processes and clinical knowledge in oral medicine harmonized within the network SOMNET. We give an overview of the current status of the MedView project and discuss background and future directions.

  • Mobile guidelines for pharmacologic treatment of hypertension
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - : IOS Press. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 103, s. 58-60
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Mobile health technologies provide case studies with potentially rather huge impacts. Examples are provided e.g. by guidelines involving pharmacologic treatment. Knowledge and reasoning need to interact with information management, and often involves utility of various devices. Well organised databases for pharmacological information are also necessary for successful engineering of mobile extensions in these case studies.

  • Using mobile information technology to build a database for anesthesia quality control and to provide clinical guidelines.
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - : IOS Press. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 95, s. 629-634
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The paper describes a mobile information system to collect patient information for anaesthesia quality control. In this system we use handheld computers, to collect patient data at the bedside with a daily synchronization of the data of the anaesthesiologist's handheld with the anaesthesia database center, later used for quality control analysis. Further, we design mobile clinical guidelines to be used on the same handhelds.

  • A design and prototype for a decision-support system in the field of urinary tract infections : application of openGALEN techniques for indexing medical information
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - Amsterdam : IOS Press. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 84:1, s. 479-483
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Differences in expert and end-user contexts may be detrimental to the use of decision-support systems. A way to attend to this problem is to triangulate decision-support methods and information sources such as in the case of the expertext system model. To organize the information contained in the system, a common domain model is suggested as a instrument for annotating information. In this paper, a design and a prototype for a decision-support system in the field of urinary tract infections using techniques and methods developed in the GALEN projects is presented.

  • A one-step approach to data retrieval, analysis,and documentation
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - : IOS Press. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 90, s. 320-324
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we propose a system architecture to support data retrieval from patient records, together with data analysis, and report generation. Moving from retrieval all the way to documentation should be done as in a pipeline, and computer support must minimize manual steps in this knowledge refinement scenario. A case study is drawn from urology for surgery on patients with lower urinary tract symptoms.

  • Data mining and structuring of executable dataanalysis reports: Guideline development and implementation in a narrowsense
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - : IOS Press. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 77, s. 790-794
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we present a data mining scenario that supports development of automated web-based documentation of data analysis for diagnosis and treatment The documents can be seen as guidelines in a narrow sense, and are designed to include executable modules for the corresponding decision support systems. Our aim is to discuss the possibilities of identifying certain types of diagnoses and treatments for which guidelines can be generated and computerised more systematically.

  • Experiences from development of home health care applications based on emerging java technology
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - : IOS Press. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 84, s. 830-834
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Home health care is an expanding area within the health care system. The idea of moving parts of the health care process from expensive specialised hospital care to primary health care and home health care might be attractive in a cost perspective. The introduction of home health care applications must be based on a rigorous analysis of necessary requirements to secure a safe and reliable health care. This article reports early experiences from the development of a home health care application based on emerging Java technologies such as the OSGi platform. A pilot application for follow-up of diabetes patients is presented and discussed in relation to a list of general requirements on home health care applications.

  • Clinical decision support system in dementia care.
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - : IOS Press. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 90, s. 568-71
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we present a prototype system as a tool for clinical decision support in the domain of cognitive diseases. The number of patients is increasing while the number of patients that the general practitioner (GP) meets in primary care still is too low to make the GP well trained in diagnostics and management of patients in the area of cognitive diseases. In addition, new treatment strategies are established in clinical routine directed towards cognitive deficiencies with behavioural and psychological symptoms in the presence of dementia (BPSD).

  • Using Text Generation to Access Clinical Data in a Variety of Contexts
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - 1879-8365 .- 0926-9630. ; 90, s. 460-465
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • MedView is a joint project with participants from oral medicine and computer science. The aim of the project is to build a large database from patient examinations and produce computerised tools to access data in various ways. One way to access data is to read case descriptions generated from stored cases. We give a description of how documents are generated from data and how these are used in a variety of contexts to supply useful information.

  • Adaptation of the critical incident technique to requirements engineering in public health
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 84:2, s. 1180-1184
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The introduction of modern information systems in public health provides new possibilities for improvements in public health services and hence also of population's health. However, development of information systems that truly supports public health practices requires that technical, cognitive, and social issues be taken into consideration. In requirements engineering for public health, a notable problem is that of capturing all aspects of the future user's voices, i.e., the viewpoints of different public health practitioners. Failing to capture these voices will result in inefficient or even useless systems. The aim of this paper is to report a requirements-engineering instrument to describe problems in the daily work of public health professionals. The issues of concern thus captured can be used as the basis for formulating the requirements of information systems for public health professionals.
