  • Smärtbedömning hos äldre personer med kommunikationssvårigheter – en utvärdering av den svenska versionen av Doloplus-2.
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Vård i Norden. - : SAGE Publications. - 0107-4083. ; 27:4, s. 26-31
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this study was to psychometrically test the Swedish version of the Doloplus-2 instrument for its use among older people. The Doloplus-2 instrument is a pain assessment tool that aims at measure pain among those who can not fully express their pain of various reasons. The instrument was tested in a sample consisting of 48 patients with cognitive impairment. Each patient was observed by two caregivers who evaluated the respondent's pain. One used only the Doloplus-2 scale and the other used both the Doloplus-2 and the UAB-scale. The UAB-scale was used as a «golden standard» because the UAB-scale has previously been found to be psychometrically valid and reliable. The Doloplus-2 scale was psychometrically evaluated by using Spearman's rank-order correlation, Kappa coefficients, and an explorative factor analysis. There was high correlation between the total score for Doloplus-2 and the UAB-scale, and the agreement was high between the two raters. Moreover, the factor analysis showed the same factor structure as the original instrument. Thus, the results indicated that Doloplus-2 had in general acceptable validity and reliability, and the instrument could be seen as a useful instrument to measure pain among elderly with communication difficulties.

  • Personers upplevelse av att leva med kronisk hjärtsvikt : Systematisk litteraturstudie
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Vård i Norden. - : SAGE Publications. - 0107-4083 .- 1890-4238. ; 28:3, s. 34-38
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Heart failure is a clinical syndrome where the heart is no longer able to maintain adequate blood circulation to the tissue. Many suffer from symptoms difficult to handle such as dyspnoea, fatigue, and physical weakness.Aim: The purpose of the study was to investigate peoples’ experiences of living with congestive heart failure.Method: A systematic literature review was used. Relevant articles were found in the Medline and Cinahl databases. The articles were examined, classified and critically appraised. Twenty articles were included. A qualitative content analysis was used to organize the results. Results: The results are described in three main categories: losses, protecting independences and readjustment. The category ‘losses’ details physical, emotional and social changes that people experience as losses caused by the debilitating symptoms of heart failure. The category ‘protecting independences’ shows the different ways in which people try to keep control over their lives. The category ‘readjustment’ presents how people try to seek a new ‘wholeness’ in life after the changes heart failure have caused by using acceptance, adaptation and finding new meanings. Conclusion: Living with congestive heart failure can be experienced as a synopsis of the «suffering human being» on a continuum, a time axle; from falling ill to seeking a new meaning in life.

  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Vård i Norden. - : SAGE Publications. - 0107-4083. ; 28:1, s. 53-55
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Sense of Coherence scale (SOC) is a widely used instrument in medical research as well as in other research areas. The Sense of Coherenceis assumed as a useful concept in assessing an individual’s orientation to life and internal strengths. However, despite the frequent use in vari-ous research studies and several psychometric evaluations there is no unequivocal evidence for its validity and reliability in some areas. The aimof this article is to discuss the strengths and weaknesses regarding the instruments psychometric properties.

  • Nurse’s consolation : A grounded theory study
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Vård i Norden. - London : Sage Publications. - 0107-4083 .- 1890-4238. ; 28:2, s. 19-22
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To date, consolation has not been clearly defined in nursing science. The purpose of this study was to identify the phenomenon of consolation from the perspective of practising nurses. Data from interviews with 21 nurses were analysed by means of the grounded theory approach. Consolation comprised supportive consolation, avoiding consolation, insufficient consolation and inaccessible consolation, which were integrated into the nurses’ professional approach and personal outlook. More basic research is required in order to illuminate the meaning of the phenomenon of consolation with focus on supportive consolation as well as the non-consolation phenomenon comprising the so-called avoiding, insufficient and inaccessible consolation. In order for nurses to be able to prescribe, carry out and evaluate consoling care which alleviates patient suffering, there is a need for further knowledge of what constitutes and does not constitute consolation.

  • Accounts of School Nursing
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Vård i Norden. - : SSN. - 0107-4083 .- 1890-4238. ; 28:1, s. 45-47
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of the study was to describe student’s accounts of school nursing and nursing activities. A purposive sample of nine informants was used, spanning students from two different schools aged between 17 and 19 years. Four  categories with sub categories emerged. (i) The students express emotions of being fond of the school nurse, but expect more caring attitudes from her (ii) The school nurse is seen as a good resource; however, the students’ confidence is partial. (iii) Reasons for consulting are mostly physical problems, despite psychological caring needs and (iv) SNHC activities are seen as useful, although too basic. These data expose a caring dilemma between the student’s needs and the professional/institutional achievements.

  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Vård i Norden. - København : Sjuksköterskornas samarbete i Norden. - 0107-4083 .- 1890-4238. ; 29:94, s. 41-43
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The aim of this article is to discuss challenges in the development of Specialist Nursing Educations as a result of the 2007 Swedish Higher EducationReform: the implementation of the so-called Bologna process. Certain challenges follow this reform, particularly since the specialist nursingprogrammes will be part of the second cycle of the higher education system, and it will be possible to combine the professional degree witha masters degree (one year). Possible strategies in four areas related to the Specialist Nursing Education are discussed: integration of researchbasedknowledge, experienced-based knowledge, improvement knowledge, and strategies for collaboration between university institutions andclinics. Specific didactical issues are raised.

  • Översättning och testning av ett livskvalitetinstrument: : The PedsQL™ Family Impact Module
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Nordic Journal of Nursing Research. - 2057-1585. ; 29:1, s. 38-42
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The whole family is affected when a child is ill. Families facing the same illness stressors respond in different ways and have different needs forhealthcare. However, assessing a family’s needs is difficult. Few instruments for assessment of families’ health related quality of life, when achild in the family has a chronic illness, exist. The purpose of this study was to translate The PedsQL™ Family Impact Module from English intoSwedish and to test the instrument in clinical practise. This process was done in four steps. Two forwards, independently translations were com-pared and outlined in a first version. This version was backwards translated and compared with the original version and outlined in a secondversion. Five parents tested through face to face interviews the translated instrument. The questionnaire was field-tested in 103 parents to chil-dren with diabetes (aged 4–19), consecutively sampled when their child visited a children hospital in Sweden for their regular diabetes check.Internal consistency reliability alpha coefficient for the Swedish version of The PedsQL™ Family Impact Module (36 items) exceeded all scalesthe minimum reliability standard of 0.70. The instrument is suggested to be useful in quality improvement work and may be a help to identifyfamilies with chronic illness in need of support.
