  • Between Biography and Paradoxography : Unveiling the Genre of the Apocryphal Acts of the Apostles
  • 2021
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The extra-canonical Acts of the apostles John, Paul, Peter, Andrew, and Thomas have traditionally been understood as heretical offshoots from the canonical Acts of the Apostles, complementing the canonical material in order to promulgate an alternative version of early Christianity. This view not only overemphasizes the dogmatic difference between their authors and other early Christians, but also obstructs the crucial discussion about their genre. This paper argues that in the context of Greco-Roman literature, the apocryphal acts exhibit considerable resemblances to two established ancient genres: biography and paradoxography. Greco-Roman biography included not only the historiographically oriented bioi of well-known rulers and politicians, but also – at least at an earlier stage of its development – fictional narratives about historical figures, such as Xenophon’s Anabasis and Cyropaedia. Ancient paradoxography is a surprisingly little known genre that flourished from early Hellenistic times well into the Byzantine era. It was aimed at collecting descriptions of wonders (θαῦματα), strange things (ἴδια), and phenomena that goes against our expectations (παράδοξα) – not from observations of nature but from previous literary works. With their claims to chronicle the famous apostles’ wondrous deeds throughout the known world, the apocryphal acts can be said to participate in both of these genres.

  • Drivers of cost and health-related quality of life in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE): a Swedish nationwide study based on patient reports
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Lupus. - : SAGE Publications. - 1477-0962 .- 0961-2033. ; 22:8, s. 793-801
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The objective of this paper is to investigate drivers of cost and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) related to disease activity and fatigue among patients with systemic lupus erythematous (SLE). A questionnaire was sent to members of a patient organization with a self-reported diagnosis of SLE, requesting information on demographics and disease characteristics, medications, resource utilization, informal care, loss of productivity, fatigue and HRQoL in relation to SLE. Mean annual costs per patient were estimated from a societal perspective. HRQoL was measured through EQ-5D and fatigue was measured through a 10 cm VAS scale. Patient-reported disease activity was measured through the Systemic Lupus Activity Questionnaire (SLAQ) and corticosteroid dose. Drivers of costs and HRQoL were analyzed through regression analysis. A total of 339 patients out of 737 returned the questionnaire. Mean age was 55; 94% were female. The mean HRQoL measured through the five-item EQ-5D instrument was 0.64 and total costs were estimated at €22,594 (direct costs €7818; indirect costs €14,776). Disease activity, fatigue and corticosteroid doses had a statistically significant impact on costs and HRQoL. This study demonstrates that Swedish patients with SLE have low HRQoL and incur high societal costs and that are both associated with and most likely driven by disease activity, fatigue and corticosteroid use.

  • The impact of phosphate scarcity on pharmaceutical protein production in S. cerevisiae: linking transcriptomic insights to phenotypic responses
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Microbial Cell Factories. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1475-2859. ; 10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background:The adaptation of unicellular organisms like Saccharomyces cerevisiae to alternating nutrient availability is of great fundamental and applied interest, as understanding how eukaryotic cells respond to variations in their nutrient supply has implications spanning from physiological insights to biotechnological applications. Results:The impact of a step-wise restricted supply of phosphate on the physiological state of S. cerevisiae cells producing human Insulin was studied. The focus was to determine the changes within the global gene expression of cells being cultured to an industrially relevant high cell density of 33 g/l cell dry weight and under six distinct phosphate concentrations, ranging from 33 mM (unlimited) to 2.6 mM (limited). An increased flux through the secretory pathway, being induced by the PHO circuit during low Pi supplementation, proved to enhance the secretory production of the heterologous protein. The re-distribution of the carbon flux from biomass formation towards increased glycerol production under low phosphate led to increased transcript levels of the insulin gene, which was under the regulation of the TPI1 promoter. Conclusions:Our study underlines the dynamic character of adaptive responses of cells towards a change in their nutrient access. The gradual decrease of the phosphate supply resulted in a step-wise modulated phenotypic response, thereby alternating the specific productivity and the secretory flux. Our work emphasizes the importance of reduced phosphate supply for improved secretory production of heterologous proteins.

    • Electronic networking, while increasing time, place and work flexibility, is becoming an important factor for the general transformation of cityscapes. This new mode of development, though at an early stage of diffusion, shows signs of being able to alter many vital social, cultural and spatial relationships. It is embedding new conditions for many companies and individuals to become ‘footloose’. The emerging development is causing new tensions between ‘space of flows’ and ‘space of places’. It is creating a new segmented spatial structure of technologically ‘favoured’ and ‘less-favoured’ urban patterns, engendering crucial problems for disadvantaged inhabitants in the form of a new wave of displacements and rootlessness. Information technologies, though continually on the verge of turmoil, have become important forces of change in urban-regional settings in advanced capitalist systems. Despite the lower rate of new building production, substantial transformations are taking place in Stockholm.

  • Multilayered wideband absorbers for oblique angle of incidence
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation. - 0018-926X. ; 58:11, s. 3637-3646
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Design procedures of Jaumann and circuit analog absorbers are mostly formulated for normal angle of incidence. Only a few design methods considering oblique angle of incidence are published. The published methods are restricted to single resistive layer circuit analog absorbers or multilayered Jaumann absorbers with low permittivity spacers. General design procedures are developed in this paper for multilayered Jaumann and capacitive circuit absorbers. By expanding the scan and frequency compensation techniques to multilayered structures, Jaumann absorbers with outstanding performances are designed. A capacitive circuit absorber is presented with a stable frequency response up to 45 Degrees for both polarizations, having an ultra wide bandwidth of 26 GHz.

  • Electric bike (non)users’ health and comfort concerns pre and peri a world pandemic (COVID-19): A qualitative study
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of Transport & Health. - : Elsevier BV. - 2214-1405. ; 21
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction: The unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic affects different domains of society, including the transport system. Due to the impacts of social distancing, research concerningelectric bike (e-bike) applications and non(user) health and comfort concerns is needed. Thisresearch aims to understand the health and comfort concerns of e-bike (non)users in both pre (PR)and peri (PE) pandemic situations and explore how the PE situation triggers (non)users to use e-bikes.Methods: An interpretive description qualitative method in the form of semi-structured interviewswas used to gather the empirical material for this research. Results: Twenty-three (non)user participants were interviewed in the PR situation, and 12 of theseparticipants were interviewed again in the PE situation. The comfort provided by the e-bike didnot outweigh its cost as a factor for nonusers considering investing in the e-bikes in the PR situation. However, nonusers acknowledged that e-bikes can serve as substitutes for public transportby eliminating social interactions and consequently potential health concerns, in addition toproviding comfortable mobility. E-bike users were in agreement concerning physical activity andthe health benefits of using e-bikes in the PR situation. Their opinions differed slightly, as womenplaced less emphasis on the physical activity provided by e-bike use. However, gender opinionsconverged regarding health concerns about using public transport in PE situations. Infrastructurefacilities and e-bike performance are evident as users’ comfort concerns in the PE situation. Conclusion: The results highlight the role of the e-bike in PE situations as a reliable transport modeand suggest that there is considerable potential for e-bikes as substitutes for public transport inthe post-pandemic situation. The findings are applicable to e-bike level-of-service studies in orderto provide an overview of the user’s experience of comfort.
