  • The Effect of Renewable Energy Development on Carbon Emission Reduction: An Empirical Analysis for the EU-15 Countries
  • 2014
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The increased concerns about climate change have made renewable energy sources an important topic of research. Several scholars have applied different methodologies to examine the relationships between energy consumption and economic growth of individual and groups of countries and to analyze the environmental effects of energy policies. Previous studies have analyzed carbon emission savings, using renewable energy usage as an individual source or in combination with traditional sources of energy (e.g., hybrid plants) in connection with lifecycle analysis methods. It is shown that after a certain period, economic growth leads to the promotion of environmental quality. However, econometric modelling critiques have opposed the results of these studies. One reason is that the effectiveness of governance-related parameters has previously been neglected. In this research, we analyze the impact of renewable energy development on carbon emission reduction. We estimate a model to evaluate the effectiveness of renewable energy development, technological innovation, and market regulations in carbon emission reduction. The empirical results are based on a panel data estimation using the EU-15 countries data observed from 1995 to 2010. The elasticities of CO2 emissions are estimated, in order to evaluate the effectiveness of each parameter. The findings show that the effects of a negative climate change could be mitigated by governance-related parameters instead of economic development.

  • An Extended SNOMED CT Concept Model for Observations in Molecular Genetics
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: AMIA Annual Symposium Proceedings. ; , s. 352-360
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Molecular genetics laboratory reports are multiplying and increasingly of clinical importance in diagnosis and treatment of cancer, infectious disease and managing of public health. Little of this data is structured or maintained in the EHR in format useful for decision support or research. Structured, computable reporting is limited by non-availability of a domain ontology for these data. The IHTSDO and Regenstrief Institute(RI) have been collaborating since 2008 to develop a unified concept model and ontology of observable entities - concepts which represent the results of laboratory and clinical observations. In this paper we report the progress we have made to apply that unified concept model to the structured recording of observations in clinical molecular genetic pathology including immunohistochemistry and sequence variant findings. The primary use case for deployment is the structured and coded reporting of Cancer checklist

  • Measurement of the response of the ATLAS liquid argon barrel calorimeter to electrons at the 2004 combined test-beam
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-9002 .- 1872-9576. ; 614:3, s. 400-432
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • During summer and fall 2004, the response of a full slice of the ATLAS barrel detector to different particles was studied in controlled beam. One module of the ATLAS liquid argon barrel calorimeter identical to the production modules and read out by the final front-end and back-end electronics was used for electromagnetic calorimetry. This paper presents and discusses the electron performance of the LAr barrel calorimeter, including linearity, uniformity, and resolution with different amounts of material upstream the calorimeter and energies ranging from 1 to 250 GeV.

  • Response uniformity of the ATLAS liquid argon electromagnetic calorimeter
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-9002 .- 1872-9576. ; 582:2, s. 429-455
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The construction of the ATLAS electromagnetic liquid argon calorimeter modules is completed and all the modules are assembled and inserted in the cryostats. During the production period four barrel and three endcap modules were exposed to test beams in order to assess their performance, ascertain the production quality and reproducibility, and to scrutinize the complete energy reconstruction chain from the readout and calibration electronics to the signal and energy reconstruction. It was also possible to check the full Monte Carlo simulation of the calorimeter. The analysis of the uniformity, resolution and extraction of constant term is presented. Typical non-uniformities of 5 parts per thousand and typical global constant terms of 6 parts per thousand are measured for the barrel and endcap modules.

  • Time resolution of the ATLAS barrel liquid argon electromagnetic calorimeter
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-9002 .- 1872-9576. ; 597:2-3, s. 178-188
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The time reconstruction performance of the ATLAS electromagnetic calorimeter readout is studied. The contribution of the electronics to the time resolution is estimated to be about 20 ps, thus demonstrating the possibility of achieving a small constant term in the time resolution for particles. The resolution to electromagnetic showers produced by an electron beam is also measured. After correction for the effects due to the calorimeter geometry, a 100 ps constant term is found for a typical cell.

  • Sensitivity of the SHiP experiment to dark photons decaying to a pair of charged particles
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. - : Springer Nature. - 1434-6044 .- 1434-6052. ; 81:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Dark photons are hypothetical massive vector particles that could mix with ordinary photons. The simplest theoretical model is fully characterised by only two parameters: the mass of the dark photon m(gamma)D and its mixing parameter with the photon, epsilon. The sensitivity of the SHiP detector is reviewed for dark photons in the mass range between 0.002 and 10 GeV. Different productionmechanisms are simulated, with the dark photons decaying to pairs of visible fermions, including both leptons and quarks. Exclusion contours are presented and compared with those of past experiments. The SHiP detector is expected to have a unique sensitivity for m. D ranging between 0.8 and 3.3(-0.5)(+0.2) GeV, and epsilon(2) ranging between 10(-11) and 10(-17).

  • Sensitivity of the SHiP experiment to Heavy Neutral Leptons
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; :4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Heavy Neutral Leptons (HNLs) are hypothetical particles predicted by many extensions of the Standard Model. These particles can, among other things, explain the origin of neutrino masses, generate the observed matter-antimatter asymmetry in the Universe and provide a dark matter candidate. The SHiP experiment will be able to search for HNLs produced in decays of heavy mesons and travelling distances ranging between O(50 m) and tens of kilometers before decaying. We present the sensitivity of the SHiP experiment to a number of HNL's benchmark models and provide a way to calculate the SHiP's sensitivity to HNLs for arbitrary patterns of flavour mixings. The corresponding tools and data files are also made publicly available.

  • Test report
  • 2010
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This report is the document summarising the testing experience and knowledge gained from the physical testing activities within the eVALUE project. The document contains brief introductions to the testing scenarios as well as short summaries of conclusions. Appended to this document are the testing reports that have been compiled during the different test sessions. Physical testing at test tracks all across Europe has been the main input in the development of scenarios and test procedures. This document describes the development tests that have been performed during 2010, based on a first draft set of testing protocols. The experience from the performed tests has been used as an important input to the revision of the testing protocols, i.e. the formal documents that describe how a test should be performed and evaluated. These protocols are documented in the separate Deliverable 3.2.

  • Extraction of bamboo microfibrils and development of biocomposites based on polyhydroxybutyrate and bamboo microfibrils
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Journal of composite materials. - : Sage publications LTD. - 0021-9983 .- 1530-793X. ; 45:12, s. 1325-1329
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This investigation deals with the detailed procedure for the extraction of microfibrils from raw bamboo. The microfibrils obtained from raw bamboo were characterized using scanning electron microscope and the average diameter of the fibrils was found to be 10 mu m. These microfibrils were then incorporated into polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) matrix using conventional plastic processing equipments. The impact strength values of the resulting composites indicate that there is an optimum loading of microfibrils in the PHB matrix, beyond which the effect of fibril loading is not significant.
