  • Monolithic Bidirectional Switch (MBS) - A novel MOS-based power device
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: PROCEEDINGS OF ESSDERC 2005. - 0780392035 ; , s. 473-476
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A novel MOS-based power device, the Monolithic Bidirectional Switch (MBS), is investigated in this work. An analytical model is used to explain basic device operating principles. A self-aligned fabrication process of lateral MBS devices with Schottky contacts and local oxidation of silicon technique (LOCOS) is described. Experimental results are compared with the analytical model to analyze the influence of device parasitics. Bidirectional switching and an on/off-current ratio of more than 100 is demonstrated for MBS devices for the first time.

  • Multi-quasiparticle states in (256)Rf
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 79:3, s. 031303-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Excited states in (256)Rf were populated via the Pb-208(Ti-50,2n) fusion-evaporation reaction. Delayed gamma-ray and electron decay spectroscopy was performed and three isomeric states in (256)Rf have been identified. A fourth low-energy nonyrast state was identified from the gamma-ray decay of one of the higher lying isomers. The states are interpreted as multi-quasiparticle excitations.

  • Does the expression of c-kit (CD117) in neuroendocrine tumors represent a target for therapy?
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences. - : Wiley. - 0077-8923 .- 1749-6632. ; 1073, s. 517-26
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Neuroendocrine tumors are very heterogeneous, develop from a variety of tissues, and can be difficult to diagnose. Without the clinical manifestation of metastases, it is often difficult to characterize them as malignant. Even so-called completely (R0) resected tumors can spread clinically visible metastases within a few months after initial surgery. Treatment options for neuroendocrine tumors including pheochromocytoma are limited. Molecular targeted therapies using tyrosine kinase inhibitors might prove to be helpful in patients with these tumors. In an immunohistochemical study, we examined KIT in 26 pheochromocytomas, 8 of which were malignant (3 adrenal pheochromocytomas, 5 paragangliomas). KIT expression was found in one of these 8 malignant tumors. This 2.5-cm-large adrenal pheochromocytoma originated from a woman with neurofibromatosis type 1 and spread into spine, skull, and lung. KIT expression could be demonstrated in 5% of tumor cells. On the basis of KIT expression immunohistochemically, we treated patients with neuroendocrine (i.e., medullary thyroid cancer) and other tumors with imatinib 400 mg per day, but without efficacy after 2 months of therapy. Similar results were shown by other investigators. Therefore, monotherapy with imatinib may not be efficacious in patients with neuroendocrine tumors that express KIT. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors such as sorafenib that targets several receptors in addition to KIT may be more efficacious in treating patients with neuroendocrine tumors.

  • Electrochemical performance of Li2FeSiO4 as a new Li-battery cathode material
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Electrochemistry communications. - : Elsevier. - 1388-2481 .- 1873-1902. ; 7:2, s. 156-160
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Phase-pure lithium iron silicate (Li2FeSiO4) has been prepared successfully. Its ambient temperature structure has been determined by X-ray diffraction and its electrochemical performance characterised at 60 °C. The resulting cyclic voltammogram suggests a phase transition to a more stable structure after the first cycle. This could involve a structural ordering process from a solid-solution to a long-range-ordered structure. The initial charge capacity of 165 mAh/g (99% of the theoretical value) stabilises after a few cycles to around 140 mAh/g (84% of the theoretical value).

  • Nature of the magnetic interaction between Fe-porphyrin molecules and ferromagnetic surfaces
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Progress in Surface Science. - : Elsevier BV. - 0079-6816 .- 1878-4240. ; 84:1-2, s. 18-29
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have investigated computationally the magnetic spin state of free metalloporphyrins and how magnetic ordering in metalloporphyrins can be induced through contact with the metallic surface and what the origin of the exchange interaction is. To this end, we performed density functional theory (DFT) and DFT + U studies for a series of isolated, ligated as well as unligated Fe-porphyrin (FeP) molecules as well as various FeP molecules on surfaces. Our calculations for isolated FePs clearly demonstrate that the usual DFT-based exchange-correlation functionals (such as the generalized gradient approximation) cannot predict the experimental high-spin ground state of these molecules. Instead, one has to resort to DFT + U calculations with a Coulomb U of about 4 eV on the Fe atoms, to obtain the correct single-molecule spin state. The magnetic interaction between FeP and a Co surface has been studied computationally with the DFT and DFT + U approaches. Our total energy DFT and DFT + U calculations predict an optimal Fe - substrate distance of 3.5 angstrom and a ferromagnetic exchange coupling of FeP to the substrate, in accordance with recent experiments. For Fe-porphyrin chloride (FePCl), on the other hand, an antiferromagnetic coupling is computed to be more favorable. Our study demonstrates that due to an indirect exchange interaction, which is mediated through the four nitrogen atoms, ferromagnetic ordering on the FeP is stabilized.

  • First Results from the Stopped RISING Campaign at GSI: The Mapping of Isomeric Decays in Highly Exotic Nuclei
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: AIP Conference Proceedings. - : AIP. - 0094-243X. - 9780735413283 ; 899, s. 19-22
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The first results from the Stopped Beam RISING experimental campaign performed at the GSI laboratory in Darmstadt, Germany, are presented. RISING (Rare ISotope INvestigations at GSI) constitutes a major new experimental program in European nuclear structure physics research aimed at using relativistic‐energy, projectile‐fragmentation reactions to study nuclei with exotic proton‐to‐neutron ratios. This paper introduces the physics aims of the Stopped RISING collaboration and presents some technical details and initial results from experiments using the RISING array to study decays from metastable nuclear states in both proton and neutron‐rich nuclei.
