  • Reduction of intra-channel four-wave mixing using the alternate-phase RZ modulation format
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: IEEE Photonics Technology Letters. - 1041-1135 .- 1941-0174. ; 14:9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • —The authors propose a modulation format in which the phase of the signal pulses alternates, in order to reduce the intrachannel four-wave mixing. They demonstrate numerically that the performance of a 40-Gb/s transmission link can be substantially improved.

  • Improvement of Nonlinear Tolerance in 40 Gbit/s Transmission by Phase Modulation at 10 GHz
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: 2002 28TH European Conference on Optical Communication. - 8790974638
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We propose to suppress intra-channel four-wave-mixing (IFWM) in 40 Gbit/s optical transmission by applying a phase modulation at 10 GHz. Both numerical simulations and experiments show that the penalty induced by IFWM is significantly reduced

  • Phase Modulation Schemes for Improving Intra-Channel Nonlinear Tolerance in 40 Gbit/s Transmission
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Conference on Optical Fiber Communication, Technical Digest Series. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. ; , s. 662-663
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Several schemes for suppressing infra-channel non-linearities by introducing phase shifts between pulses are compared. Simulations and experiments show that sinusoidal phase modulation at 10 GHz provides a simple and effective means for improving the nonlinear tolerance in 40 Gbit/s transmission.

  • Suppression of intra-channel four-wave mixing by phase modulation at one quarter of bit rate
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Electronic Letters. - : Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). - 0013-5194. ; 38:23, s. 1463-65
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A proposed improvement of the nonlinear tolerance in 40 Gbit/s optical transmission by applying a 10 GHz phase modulation is presented. The improvement is obtained because intra-channel four-wave mixing (IFWM) is suppressed. It is shown, both by numerical simulations and experiments, that the penalty induced by IFWM is significantly reduced.

  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2004. (CLEO)..
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Measurements of the noise statistics after a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) demonstrate non-linear noise re-distribution with a strong power and bandwidth dependence.

  • Influence of pulse width and dispersion period on 40 Gbit/s dispersion-managed RZ transmission
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO 2000). - : IEEE.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An overview is given on the numerical investigation of the influence of the dispersion period and the pulse width on the performance of a dispersion-managed (DM) transmission link. Results from studying a transmission link of alternating pieces of standard fiber (SF) and dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) are discussed.

  • Polarisation dependence and gain tilt of Raman amplifiers for WDM systems
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Conference on Optical Fiber Communication, Technical Digest Series. ; , s. MI2/1-MI2/3
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigate the polarisation dependence and gain tilt of Raman amplifiers for WDM systems. We find no polarisation dependence of the gain for backward propagating pumps. Results from experiments on commercial 32-channel WDM system are presented, highlighting the effect of gain tilt and pump depletion.

  • A variational approach to nonlinear evolution equations in optics
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Pramana (Bangalore). - : Indian Academy of Sciences. - 0304-4289 .- 0973-7111. ; 57:5-6, s. 917-936
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The use of direct variational methods based on Rayleigh-Ritz optimization for finding approximate solutions to various nonlinear evolution equations was presented. The main advantage of the approach is that it provides simple and explicit expressions for physically relevant quantities where exact analytical solutions are not available. It is found that the given method is flexible and can be applied to stationary and dynamical problems.

  • Receiver Model Including Square-Law Detection and ISI from Arbitrary Electrical Filtering
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Conference on Optical Fiber Communication, Technical Digest Series. ; , s. 68-69
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A dynamic receiver model, which uses the electrical filter time response to include the effects of inter-symbol-interference (ISI) was described. The model consisted an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG), a photodiode (PD), an electrical low pass filter (LPF) and a decision circuit. The model used matrix formalism, which made it directly applicable to numerical simulations. An example, measurements and numerical results on 10Gbit/s simulations, that showed the influence of ISI from a 4th order Bessel filter on the Bit Error Ratio (BER) was also presented.

  • Rigorous modeling of noise and ISI in optical WDM receivers with arbitrary electrical filtering
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Pacific Rim Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, CLEO - Technical Digest. ; , s. 532-533
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Rigorous modeling of noise and intersymbol signal interference in optical wavelength division multiplexing receivers with arbitrary electrical filtering was presented. Simulations of a WDM back-to-back system was performed with 32 signal channels. Bit-error-rate was evaluated as a function of received power at the input to the pre-amplifier. Results indicated that for a filter with a narrow bandwidth, the impulse response was spread out, and the detected bit was affected by the impulse response from previous bits.
