  • Factors facilitating and obstructing a school development project
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Education Inquiry. - : Routledge. - 2000-4508. ; 13:4, s. 428-446
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study describes and critically discusses a development project designed to create and enact a local language policy at a Swedish multilingual school, its context, content and implementation dimensions. The collaborative construction of a school language policy is a complex process, with tensions that need to be resolved. By describing the processes involved in the language policy project we examine the factors that facilitated and obstructed the enactment of the language policy. The data include 25 interviews with school headteachers and staff members, 15 observations of teachers and school-age educare teachers, field notes, and audio recordings of research circles. Drawing on insights from the enactment framework, the analysis reveals three important themes with respect to the enactment processes: continuity, cohesion, and inclusion. Factors such as communication and leadership, but also external factors, were found to influence outcomes of the project, illuminating an interwoven web of contexts and facets for understanding the enactment of the language policy. These factors influencing outcomes of the project will be discussed in the light of implications for the enactment of the school language policy project.

  • Guiding principles for the use of knowledge bases and real-world data in clinical decision support systems : report by an international expert workshop at Karolinska Institutet
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Expert Review of Clinical Pharmacology. - : Taylor & Francis. - 1751-2433 .- 1751-2441. ; 13:9, s. 925-934
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction Technical and logical breakthroughs have provided new opportunities in medicine to use knowledge bases and large-scale clinical data (real-world) at point-of-care as part of a learning healthcare system to diminish the knowledge-practice gap. Areas covered The article is based on presentations, discussions and recommendations from an international scientific workshop. Value, research needs and funding avenues of knowledge bases and access to real-world data as well as transparency and incorporation of patient perspectives are discussed. Expert opinion Evidence-based, publicly funded, well-structured and curated knowledge bases are of global importance. They ought to be considered as a public responsibility requiring transparency and handling of conflicts of interest. Information has to be made accessible for clinical decision support systems (CDSS) for healthcare staff and patients. Access to rich and real-world data is essential for a learning health care ecosystem and can be augmented by data on patient-reported outcomes and preferences. This field can progress by the establishment of an international policy group for developing a best practice guideline on the development, maintenance, governance, evaluation principles and financing of open-source knowledge bases and handling of real-world data.

  • Swedish school-age educare : a combination of education and care
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: International Developments in Research on Extended Education. - Opladen : Verlag Barbara Budrich. - 9783847423355 ; , s. 173-192
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this chapter we aim to describe the Swedish school-age educare from a cultural and historical perspective and we hope to give the reader an informative picture of how Swedish school-age educare is organised and put into practice followed by critical reflections. This will be done by describing purposes, origins, policies, and impacts (methods) of extended education performed both in the school-age educare centres as a part of the public educational system and in recreational activities provided outside the educational system run as community-programmes. Schools and school-age educare centres are integrated and can be managed as public or independent schools. The independent schools could be owned and run by parents, private companies or organisations, but both public and independent schools are financed by taxes. School-age educare centres are chosen, both by politicians and parents, as the most preferred provision for children aged 6-12 years which means that governmental resources, political discussions, and research are directed toward this way of organising extended education.

  • Internet-based treatment of depression and anxiety among migrants and refugees in Sweden
  • 2022
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • There is a growing number of refugees and displaced persons worldwide, with many suffering the psychological consequences of traumatic and stressful events occurring both in their country of origin, during the migratory journey and after arriving in a new country. Despite this, there is limited evidence on how to best help refugees and migrants with the mental health problems that they sometimes experience. Internet-based interventions show promise in the treatment of many common mental disorders and can be adapted into different languages. The aim of the present thesis was to investigate the usefulness and efficacy of internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy (ICBT) for migrants and refugees in Sweden suffering from depression and anxiety. The studies in the thesis showed that both self-guided and therapist-guided ICBT can be acceptable interventions for Arabic-speaking adults with mild to moderate symptoms of depression and anxiety. In addition, support was also found for the efficacy of therapist-guided ICBT. However, with regards to Dari/Farsi speaking youth, it was found that the structure of the delivery format constituted a major barrier. Future studies should investigate if a blended treatment format can increase acceptance of ICBT for this population.
