  • Effect of Fee on Cervical Cancer Screening Attendance-ScreenFee, a Swedish Population-Based Randomised Trial
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Plos One. - : Public Library of Science (PLoS). - 1932-6203. ; 11:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background Attendance in the cervical cancer screening programme is one of the most important factors to lower the risk of contracting the disease. Attendance rates are often low in areas with low socioeconomic status. Charging a fee for screening might possibly decrease attendance in this population. Screening programme coverage is low in low socio-economic status areas in Gothenburg, Sweden, but has increased slightly after multiple interventions in recent years. For many years, women in the region have paid a fee for screening. We studied the effect of abolishing this fee in a trial emanating from the regular cervical cancer screening programme. Individually randomised controlled trial. All 3 124 women in three low-resource areas in Gothenburg, due for screening during the study period, were randomised to receive an offer of a free test or the standard invitation stating the regular fee of 100 SEK (approximate to 11 (sic)). The study was conducted during the first six months of 2013. Attendance was defined as a registered Pap smear within 90 days from the date the invitation was sent out. Attendance did not differ significantly between women who were charged and those offered free screening (RR 0.93; CI 0.85-1.02). No differences were found within the districts or as an effect of age, attendance after the most recent previous invitation or previous experience of smear taking. Abolishment of a modest screening fee in socially disadvantaged urban districts with low coverage, after previous multiple systematic interventions, does not increase attendance in the short term. Other interventions might be more important for increasing attendance in low socio-economic status areas.

  • Mapping Youth Participation
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Nordic Youth Reserch Symposium, Youth Moves – Voices – Spaces – Subjectivities, 15th–17th of June 2016, Trollhättan, Sweden.

    • Mapping youth participation Björn Andersson och Susanne Liljeholm Hansson SESSION 16: Spaces and styles of participation Mapping youth participation This abstract relates to a joint open session Spaces and Styles of Participationtogether with Walther, Nyman-Kurkiala and Schwanenfluegel. One important empirical task for the PARTISPACE project is to map how young people engage in participatory activities in the eight cities that take part in the study. To know what we are looking for we have to have some kind of definition of what youth participation means. The general starting point is that participation should be understood as a lived and situated practice. As a more concrete guide for the collection of data we distinguish between formal, non-formal and informal forms of participation. The formal level is about elections, membership in political parties and taking part in youth parliaments or councils. These are activities that often are labelled participation . The non-formal setting is about associations and youth organizations, often supported by various youth work efforts. Finally, the informal level is about all kinds of youth activities, often not considered as participatory, but which nonetheless contain elements that affect young peoples relation to society. Methods that will be used for gathering data are interviews, observations, case studies, group discussions and reconstructing participation biographies. There will also be action research projects carried out by young people themselves. During the seminar we will present the work done in Gothenburg this far. We will discuss and reflect upon the theoretical and methodological approaches used in the study. Does the mapping work or do we miss important aspect of young people s participation due to deficiencies in the design of the study?

  • Slutrapport Trestad2. Del A: Genomgång av delprojekt och samlad bedömning.
  • 2015

  • Social sustainability in residential solutions
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Paper proceedings, Sustainable Housing 2016, Porto, Portugal. - 9789898734204
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Currently there is a mounting demand on housing providers to contribute to sustainability in residential situations and to deliver practical demonstrations and experiments in this field. One such example in Sweden has been initiated as a research based project development process by a cooperative housing association in Göteborg, Riksbyggen EF, also a major actor on national level. During a period of three years a transdisciplinary collaboration, involving Chalmers Architecture and the University of Gothenburg, a building project comprising more than a hundred flats has been defined and is now going to be built starting November 2016 at Chalmers University campus site. The collaborative project, the so called Positive Footprint Housing claims a future realization of a number of radical implementations in a design strategy of significantly raised residential resilience implemented in Brf Viva, as the name given. Examples range from a wide variety of components like sharing of electric car pool, limited parking lots, extensive application of rooftop pv-cells and electric production to the introduction of low cost starter flats for young residents and structural flexibility of apartments in addition to extensive common facilities like a winter garden for parties, meetings and plant cultivation. Efforts to create social sustainable solutions have been both procedural and substantial in character. This paper will take a critical stance towards this endeavor building upon related conducted research with insights and observations of authors from participation within this pro- cess of research informed residential projective realization. The focus has been set on unfolded and identified crucial social aspects of sustainability and related architectural residential solutions in particular of long term alterability and flexibility. Our study shows the inherent vagueness of general sustainability formulations, especially concerning social sustainability, and the importance of doing research directly in the conflicting social fabric where sustainability goals are negotiated and given a concrete significance.

  • Standing up! Stödgruppsverksamhet för anhöriga till personer med drogproblem.
  • 2015
