  • Vortex liquid-to-solid transition in underdoped YBa2Cu3O7-delta single crystals with B parallel to ab
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Physica. C, Superconductivity. - 0921-4534 .- 1873-2143. ; 388, s. 691-692
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A nearly magnetic field independent vortex liquid-to-solid transition has been observed in both the ab-plane and in the c-axis resistivity of underdoped YBa2Cu3O7-delta single crystals for magnetic fields Bparallel toab-plane. These observations suggest that intrinsic pinning caused by the superconducting layers do neither lead to a system of completely decoupled superconducting layers nor to a smectic vortex phase at high fields. A possible explanation may include a transition driven by changes in elastic properties (e.g., the shear modulus) of the vortex system.

  • Argonaute, Vault, and Ribosomal Proteins Targeted by Autoantibodies in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: The Journal of rheumatology. - 0315-162X. ; 50:9, s. 1136-1144
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVE: To expand, in an unbiased manner, our knowledge of autoantigens and autoantibodies in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and evaluate their associations with serological and clinical variables. METHODS: Human proteome arrays (> 21,000 proteins) were screened with serum from patients with SLE (n = 12) and healthy controls (n = 6) for IgG and IgA binding. Top hits were validated with 2 cohorts of patients with SLE (cohort 1, n = 49; cohort 2, n = 46) and other rheumatic diseases by ELISA. Clinical associations of the autoantibodies were tested. RESULTS: Ro60 was the top hit in the screen, and the 10 following proteins included 2 additional known SLE autoantigens plus 8 novel autoantigens involved in microRNA processing (Argonaute protein 1 [AGO1], AGO2, and AGO3), ribosomes (ribosomal protein lateral stalk subunit P2 and ovarian tumor deubiquitinase 5 [OTUD5]), RNA transport by the vault (major vault protein), and the immune proteasome (proteasome activator complex subunit 3). Patient serum contained IgG reactive with these proteins and IgA against the AGO proteins. Using the 95th percentile of healthy donor reactivity, 5-43% were positive for the novel antigens, with OTUD5 and AGO1 showing the highest percentages of positivity. Autoantibodies against AGO1 proteins were more prevalent in patients with oral ulcers in a statistically significant manner. IgG autoantibodies against AGO proteins were also seen in other rheumatic diseases. CONCLUSION: We discovered new autoantigens existing in cytosolic macromolecular protein assemblies containing RNA (except the proteasome) in cells. A more comprehensive list of autoantigens will allow for a better analysis of how proteins are targeted by the autoimmune response. Future research will also reveal whether specific autoantibodies have utility in the diagnosis or management of SLE.

  • Effects of supplementation with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on cognitive performance and cardiometabolic risk markers in healthy 51 to 72 years old subjects: a randomized controlled cross-over study
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Nutrition Journal. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1475-2891. ; 11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Higher plasma n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) have been associated with a lower risk of age related cognitive decline, and to beneficially affect cardiometabolic risk factors. A relation exists between metabolic disorders such as diabetes type 2 and cognitive decline. Results regarding the potential effects of n-3 PUFA on risk factors in healthy subjects are divergent, and studies regarding the possible relation between cardiometabolic parameters and cognitive performance are scarce. The objective was to evaluate the effects of five weeks intake of long chain n-3 PUFA on cognitive performance in healthy individuals, and to exploit the possible relation between outcomes in cognitive tests to cardiometabolic risk parameters. Methods: Fish oil n-3 PUFA (3g daily) were consumed during 5weeks separated by a 5 week washout period in a cross-over placebo controlled study, including 40 healthy middle aged to elderly subjects. Cognitive performance was determined by tests measuring working memory (WM) and selective attention. Results: Supplementation with n-3 PUFA resulted in better performance in the WM-test compared with placebo (p < 0.05). In contrast to placebo, n-3 PUFA lowered plasma triacylglycerides (P < 0.05) and systolic blood pressure (p < 0.0001). Systolic blood pressure (p < 0.05), f-glucose (p = 0.05), and s-TNF-alpha (p = 0.05), were inversely related to the performance in cognitive tests. Conclusions: Intake of n-3 PUFA improved cognitive performance in healthy subjects after five weeks compared with placebo. In addition, inverse relations were obtained between cardiometabolic risk factors and cognitive performance, indicating a potential of dietary prevention strategies to delay onset of metabolic disorders and associated cognitive decline.

  • The Second Catalog of Flaring Gamma-Ray Sources from the Fermi All-sky Variability Analysis
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal. - : American Astronomical Society. - 0004-637X .- 1538-4357. ; 846:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present the second catalog of flaring gamma-ray sources (2FAV) detected with the Fermi All-sky Variability Analysis (FAVA), a tool that blindly searches for transients over the entire sky observed by the Large Area Telescope (LAT) on board the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. With respect to the first FAVA catalog, this catalog benefits from a larger data set, the latest LAT data release (Pass 8), as well as from an improved analysis that includes likelihood techniques for a more precise localization of the transients. Applying this analysis to the first 7.4 years of Fermi observations, and in two separate energy bands 0.1-0.8 GeV and 0.8-300 GeV, a total of 4547 flares were detected with significance greater than 6s (before trials), on the timescale of one week. Through spatial clustering of these flares, 518 variable gamma-ray sources were identified. Based on positional coincidence, likely counterparts have been found for 441 sources, mostly among the blazar class of active galactic nuclei. For 77 2FAV sources, no likely gamma-ray counterpart has been found. For each source in the catalog, we provide the time, location, and spectrum of each flaring episode. Studying the spectra of the flares, we observe a harder-when-brighter behavior for flares associated with blazars, with the exception of BL Lac flares detected in the low-energy band. The photon indexes of the flares are never significantly smaller than 1.5. For a leptonic model, and under the assumption of isotropy, this limit suggests that the spectrum of freshly accelerated electrons is never harder than p similar to 2.
