  • Infrared spectra of cis and trans-(NO)(2)(-) anions in solid argon
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Journal of Chemical Physics. - 1089-7690 .- 0021-9606. ; 109:1, s. 177-185
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Laser-ablation of over 20 different metal targets with concurrent 10 K codeposition of Ar/NO mixtures produces metal independent infrared bands at 1589.3 cm−1 due to (NO)2+, a new absorption at 1221.0 cm−1, and a band set at 1300.3, 1222.7, 884.4 cm−1. The latter bands decrease more on annealing than the 1221.0 cm−1 band. Isotopic substitution (14NO,15NO, 15N18O, and mixtures) shows that these new vibrations involve two equivalent N–O oscillators, which identifies two new (NO)2 species. The excellent agreement with frequencies, intensities, and isotopic frequency ratios from density functional theory calculations substantiates assignment of the 1221.0 cm−1 band to trans-(NO)2− and the three band set to cis-(NO)2−. The observation of a weak combination band at 2492.0 cm−1 further substantiates assignment of the two N–O stretching modes in cis-(NO)2−

  • A further study of the products of scandium and dioxygen reactions
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physical Chemistry A. - 1089-5639 .- 1520-5215. ; 103:28, s. 5463-5467
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The products of the reaction of Sc and dioxygen have been reinvestigated. By adding the electron-trapping molecule CCl4 additional information about the IR spectra has been obtained, as well as the observation of new bands. New ab initio calculations are also performed on possible products of the Sc plus O-2 reaction. The previously observed band at 722.5 cm(-1) is assigned as the b(2) mode of ScO2-. Bands arising from ScO+, Sc(O-2)(+), and(O-2)ScO are also assigned. We are still unable to assign any bands to OScO. The problems associated with the computational study of ScO2 are discussed.

  • Preliminary analysis of taxonomic diversity, turnover and provinciality in a subsample of large land mammals from the later Miocene of western Eurasia.
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Acta zoologica cracoviensia. ; 39, s. 167-178
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have recently reviewed the later Miocene (MN 6-13; ca 15-5 Ma ago) primates, hipparions, rhinocerotids, suoids and carnivores of Europe and the eastern Mediterranean. This work is still unpublished and analyses are underway, but a preliminary indication of some coarse patterns is given here for the sample consisting of the groups listed above: 1) There is a clear-cut difference between western and Central Europe on one hand and the eastern Mediterranean on the other. This is especially clear for species richness, which shows a rising trend throughout the Vallesian and earlier Turolian for the eastern regions and a falling trend for the western ones. 2) The major drops in species richness occurred between MN 6 and MN 7, between MN 9 and MN 10, and between MN 12 and MN 13. Of these, the "mid-Vallesian crisis" (MN 9-10) seems to have been entirely absent in the eastern Mediterranean, where species richness rose sharply during this interval. Correspondingly, the drop in MN 12-13, associated with the Messinian crisis, was predominantly an eastern phenomenon. 3) Taxon free analysis of body size and ecomorphology strongly supports the view that a diachronous opening up of the landscape from east to west took place in western Eurasia during the Astaracian and Vallesian. We postulate that the difference seen in faunal dynamics between east and west reflects habitat-related effects of this diachrony in response to the same global event of rapid physical change. 4) The early Turolian (MN 11) was characterized by high diversity and high faunal similarity, which both decreased during the later Turolian and ended with the Messinian crisis. 5) Despite highly uniform diversity and turnover patterns throughout the interval, western and Central Europe developed distinct ecological differences from about MN 10 onwards. These differences may have been associated with the persistence of closed habitats in Central Europe.

  • Strong population of a superdeformed band in Eu142
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - 0556-2813. ; 52:1, s. 99-103
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A superdeformed band has been found in Eu142. It is populated with 1.2(2)% of the total -ray intensity that decayed into Eu142 via the reaction Sn120(27Al,5n)142Eu at 152 MeV. The strength of the band is similar to that previously reported in Eu143, where the superdeformed band is populated with an intensity of 1.1(1)%. This is unexpected, since both total Routhian surface (TRS) and cranked modified oscillator (MO) calculations predict that the superdeformed band in Eu143 becomes yrast at lower spin than that in Eu142. This difference is 4Latin small letter h with stroke in the MO calculations and 8Latin small letter h with stroke in the TRS. Extrapolation of the normal-deformed yrast states in Eu143 shows, however, that a difference of 8Latin small letter h with stroke in spin corresponds to a change in the relative energy of the superdeformed and normal-deformed yrast lines of only 1 MeV.
