  • Mineralfiberfragment och 'sjuka hus'-besvär i skolmiljö
  • 1995

  • A cohort study of the ocular safety of anti-ulcer drugs.
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. - : Wiley. - 0306-5251 .- 1365-2125. ; 42:2, s. 213-216
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • 1. Recently, some cases have been reported where intravenous use of omeprazole was followed by loss of vision. We followed up a cohort of close to 140,000 persons during periods of treatment and non-treatment with five anti-ulcer drugs. 2. The relative risk of vascular disorders of the eye during use of omeprazole compared with non-use was 1.8 (95% CI 0.5-6.0). Use of other anti-ulcer drugs was associated with a similar risk of vascular disorders. The relative risk associated with current use of any anti-ulcer drug was 1.9 (95% CI 1.1-3.4). We did not find a single case of optic inflammatory disorder during treatment with any of the five anti-ulcer drugs. 3. These results do not suggest a major increased risk for vascular or inflammatory disorders of the eye associated with use of omeprazole or other anti-ulcer drugs.

  • Rapid diagnostic test for the major mutation underlying Batten disease
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Journal of Medical Genetics. - 0022-2593 .- 1468-6244. ; 33:12, s. 1041-1042
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Batten disease is the most common progressive neurodegenerative disorder of childhood in western countries. A novel cDNA responsible for Batten disease has recently been identified. We have developed a rapid diagnostic solid phase minisequencing test to detect the major 1.02 kb deletion which is responsible for 81% of affected chromosomes in Batten disease worldwide. In Finland, 90% of Batten chromosomes carry the major deletion owing to the enrichment of the CLN3 gene in the isolated Finnish population.

  • NIR spectra in relation to viscoelastic properties of mixtures of Na-?-Carrageenan, locust bean gum and casein
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Food Hydrocolloids. - 0268-005X .- 1873-7137. ; 12:2, s. 189-193
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Near-infrared spectral data were correlated with the viscoelastic property storage modulus, G?, for mixtures of five biopolymers using multivariate analysis. Gels containing Na-?-carrageenan (0.5-1.0%) mixed with locust bean gums with two different mannose to galactose ratios, ?-casein and/or ?-casein (0-0.5%, polymer concentration) in 0.25 M NaCl were studied. Forty-two experiments based on a multivariate, central composite circumscribed design (CCC) were performed. Partial least square (PLS) regression was used to find a model relation between NIR transmittance spectra, recorded at 15°C in the wavelength interval 400-2500 nm, and the G? for the biopolymer gels at 15°C. Depending on sample composition, the G? varies between 0 and 3500Pa. Cross-validation using a designed data set led to a model based on 11 principal components with a correlation coefficient of 0.85 and a root mean square error of prediction of 540 Pa. © 1998 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. • Liquid loss as effected by post mortem ultrastructural changes in fish muscle : Cod (Gadus morhua L) and salmon (Salmo salar)
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture. - 0022-5142 .- 1097-0010. ; 71:3, s. 301-312
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study was performed in order to assess the effect of early post mortem structural changes in the muscle upon the liquid-holding capacity of wild cod, net-pen-fed cod (fed cod) and farmed salmon. The liquid- holding capacity was measured by a low speed centrifugation test. Transmission electron microscopy was used to discover ultrastructural changes both in the connective tissue and in the myofibrils. Differential scanning calorimetric thermograms of the muscle proteins were recorded to elucidate whether fundamental differences did exist between the proteins of the raw material tested. Multivariate statistics were used to explicate the main tendencies of variations in the thermograms. The salmon muscle possessed much better liquid-holding properties than the cod muscle, and wild cod better than fed cod regardless of the storage time. Both fed cod and farmed salmon, underwent the most severe structural alterations, probably caused by the low muscle pH values. The higher liquid-holding capacity of the salmon muscle was related to species specific structural features and better stability of the muscle proteins. The myofibrils of the salmon muscle were denser and intra- and extracellular spaces were filled by fat and a granulated material. The differences in thermograms of muscle from wild and fed cod were largely explained by the variations in pH. The severe liquid loss of fed cod is due to a low pH induced denaturation and shrinkage of the myofibrils. Post mortem degradation of the endomysial layer and the sarcolemma may have further facilitated the release of liquid.

  • Multiband VLBI observations of CTA 102
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Astronomy and Astrophysics. - : EDP Sciences. - 0004-6361 .- 1432-0746. ; 310:1, s. 66-74
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The source CTA102, known to exhibit low frequency variability, has been observed at six epochs (three at λ32cm, two at λ18cm, and one at λ1.3cm) with intercontinental VLBI arrays. On the basis of the changes observed in the structure, we believe that the flux density variations at these wavelengths are due to intrinsic processes and not due to interstellar scintillation. This source exhibits behaviour suggestive of being expanding with a very high apparent transverse velocity.
