  • Hitomi X-ray observation of the pulsar wind nebula G21.5-0.9
  • 2018
  • In: Publications of the Astronomical Society of Japan. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 0004-6264 .- 2053-051X. ; 70:3
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We present results from the Hitomi X-ray observation of a young composite-type supernova remnant (SNR) G21.5-0.9, whose emission is dominated by the pulsar wind nebula (PWN) contribution. The X-ray spectra in the 0.8-80 keV range obtained with the Soft X-ray Spectrometer (SXS), Soft X-ray Imager, and Hard X-ray Imager (HXI) show a significant break in the continuum as previously found with the NuSTAR observation. After taking into account all known emissions from the SNR other than the PWN itself, we find that the Hitomi spectra can be fitted with a broken power law with photon indices of Gamma(1) = 1.74 +/- 0.02 and Gamma(2) = 2.14 +/- 0.01 below and above the break at 7.1 +/- 0.3 keV, which is significantly lower than the NuSTAR result (similar to 9.0 keV). The spectral break cannot be reproduced by time-dependent particle injection one-zone spectral energy distribution models, which strongly indicates that a more complex emission model is needed, as suggested by recent theoretical models. We also search for narrow emission or absorption lines with the SXS, and perform a timing analysis of PSR J1833-1034 with the HXI and the Soft Gamma-ray Detector. No significant pulsation is found from the pulsar. However, unexpectedly, narrow absorption line features are detected in the SXS data at 4.2345 keV and 9.296 keV with a significance of 3.65 sigma. While the origin of these features is not understood, their mere detection opens up a new field of research and was only possible with the high resolution, sensitivity, and ability to measure extended sources provided by an X-ray microcalorimeter.

  • Migrants and Swedish Activists in Solidarity : Pro-Asylum Activism as a Pathway of Political Socialisation in Malmö
  • 2022
  • In: Nordic Journal of Migration Research. - : Helsinki University Press. - 1799-649X. ; 12:4, s. 452-468
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The article examines how pro-asylum activism contributes to the political socialisation of precarious migrants who become activists, and how it facilitates their social and spatial emplacement in a particular locality. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork conducted in 2013–2016 in the city of Malmö, an important site of pro-asylum and anti-racist activism in Sweden, the article analyses how some migrants re-establish their lives by building social relationships with established local activists. These relationships help them gain the knowledge and ability to develop their own activist trajectories, form their own organisations, and dare to conduct activism in public spaces, despite being undocumented.

  • Motion and flow in heritage institutions. Two cases of challenges from within
  • 2016
  • In: Nordisk Museologi. - 1103-8152. ; 2016:1, s. 40-51
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Through the lens of two case studies within two national contexts, this paper seeks to understand how purportedly stable and self-contained institutions such as museums, archives and local government repositories are re-formed through engagement with subaltern subjects. Although there is much analysis of heritage institutions that follows major ideological shifts of the 20th century (Grundberg, 2002; Lowenthal, 1985; Pettersson, 2003; Wetterberg, 1992), these organisations are still often considered to bear institutional legacies of the 19th century (Bennett, 1995). Rather than focus on these characteristics however, we will instead explore institutional permeability, noticing how meeting the subaltern in particular inspires ‘motion and flow’, which in turn affects notions of what constitutes ‘heritage’. As we unfold each case, we pay attention to the processes through which this permeability stimulates friction. This is most problematic when the commission of the heritage institution and the construction of national identity are entwined, with the (unarticulated) aim of reiterating established discourses of power (Smith, 2006). Alternatively, we also explore how heritage institutions can function, somewhat counter-intuitively, as sites of remediation. This happens when negative associations of institutional control are flipped, and instead become places for the previously marginalized to find a voice within the authorized national narrative. In our two examples we show how pressures applied by Aboriginal people in Australia and Roma people in Sweden respectively have forced transgressions of professional practice and in doing so have offered a challenge to the idea of what constitutes a heritage expert. Both cases, of re-ordered management protocols in the National Museum of Australia and the much more recent integration of Roma historical places into Swedish institutional memory, demonstrate the effect of the subaltern subject on heritage institutions. We can see that in one of the cases a radical inclusion has been achieved, while the other has begun what is likely to be a long-term, complex, cultural conversation. While these cases vary in scale – one bears the weight of a colonial history whilst the other does not – they nevertheless share the contemporary myths and misunderstandings around what happens when heritage institutions meet with subaltern peoples and the challenges they offer from within.

  • Multiband high-linearity front-end receivers for wireless applications
  • 2002
  • In: Analog Integrated Circuits and Signal Processing. - 0925-1030 .- 1573-1979. ; 30:1, s. 59-67
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In this paper, a modified front-end receiver configuration, which consists of an LNA and mixer suitable for zero-IF or low-IF receivers, is presented. The idea is to achieve a better linearity for receivers by combining circuit and system level solutions. Three circuit topologies, two in bipolar and one in CMOS technology, are presented in this paper with their simulation results. One of the bipolar topologies has been implemented and measurement results are presented. An IIP3 of up to +0.6 dBm of a combined bipolar LNA and mixer is achieved, depending on frequency of interest and with an acceptable noise figure performance at a current consumption of less than 13 mA from 5 V supply voltage in one circuit and 3 V supply voltage in the other one. An IIP3 up to +5 dBm is achieved for the CMOS topology at a lower overall gain and acceptable noise figure (14.4 mA and 3 V). All circuits presented in this paper are wideband circuits, suitable for area-efficient multiband receivers.

  • Cause I’m Feeling Good! The Influence of Anticipated Emotions on Consumer Pro-environmental Behavior
  • 2016
  • In: Rediscovering the Essentiality of Marketing. - Cham : Springer. - 9783319298771 - 9783319806761 - 9783319298764 ; , s. 117-125
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Although consumers express environmental attitudes, the pro-environmental behaviors are not dominant. Despite the benefits of sustainable technologies in reducing the environmental impacts of consumption, consumer adoption of these technologies is very slow to take off. We propose an integrated approach for investigating the effect of consumer anticipated emotions and moral norms on consumer adoption of a sustainable technology (electric vehicles). 576 Swedish car drivers participated in an online survey during winter of 2013. Our findings suggest that anticipated emotions directly influence consumer adoption intentions and the effect of moral norms on behavioral intentions is mediated by the anticipated emotions. The findings have implications for policymakers and car producers in promoting the zero emission transportation. We suggest communicating the positive emotions related to driving an electric vehicle and use of emotions in cars' energy labelling.
