  • Phylogeny of the eudicots : a nearly complete familial analysis based on rbcL gene sequences
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Kew bulletin. - 0075-5974 .- 1874-933X. ; 55:2, s. 257-309
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A phylogenetic analysis of 589 plastid rbcL gene sequences representing nearly all eudicot families (a total of 308 families; seven photosynthetic and four parasitic families are missing) was performed, and bootstrap re-sampling was used to assess support for clades. Based on these data, the ordinal classification of eudicots is revised following the previous classification of angiosperms by the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group (APG). Putative additional orders are discussed (e.g. Dilleniales, Escalloniales, Vitales), and several additional families are assigned to orders for future updates of the APG classification. The use of rbcL alone in such a large matrix was found to be practical in discovering and providing bootstrap support for most orders. Combination of these data with other matrices for the rest of the angiosperms should provide the framework for a complete phylogeny to be used in macro-evolutionary studies.

  • Can we make maintenance decisions on risk analysis results?
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Journal of Quality in Maintenance Engineering. - : Emerald. - 1355-2511 .- 1758-7832. ; 8:1, s. 77-91
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • For several branches of industry, an increasingly competitive environment has raised important questions concerning maintenance in plant systems. For example, the 1996 deregulation in Sweden's electricity sector has resulted in increased competition among the country's power producers. To survive the competition, suppliers have to reduce maintenance costs, i.e. handle maintenance more efficiently. Risk analysis is one tool decision makers can use to help them prioritise as they plan maintenance actions. There are a number of different approaches to risk analysis. As the results of an analysis must form a reliable basis for decision making, it is important to consider whether the quality of the results will vary significantly with the risk analysis approach chosen. This paper presents a comparative study based on three independent risk analyses performed on a specific hydro-power plant. The comparison and evaluation of the analyses reveal major differences in performance and results, along with various factors that affect the quality of the analyses. The study establishes the importance of a well-planned requirement specification and the need to analyse and interpret risk analysis results, before making maintenance decisions.

  • GPs' decisions on drug treatment for patients with high cholesterol values : A think-aloud study
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making. - 1472-6947. ; 4:23
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Background The purpose was to examine how General Practitioners (GPs) use clinical information and rules from guidelines in their decisions on drug treatment for high cholesterol values. Methods Twenty GPs were presented with six case vignettes and were instructed to think aloud while successively more information about a case was presented, and finally to decide if a drug should be prescribed or not. The statements were coded for the clinical information to which they referred and for favouring or not favouring prescription. Results The evaluation of clinical information was compatible with decision-making as a search for reasons or arguments. Lifestyle-related information like smoking and overweight seemed to be evaluated from different perspectives. A patient's smoking favoured treatment for some GPs and disfavoured treatment for others. Conclusions The method promised to be useful for understanding why doctors differ in their decisions on the same patient descriptions and why rules from the guidelines are not followed strictly.
