  • Academia and society in collaborative knowledge production towards urban sustainability : several schemes—three common crossroads
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Environment, Development and Sustainability. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1387-585X .- 1573-2975.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Arrangements for collaboration in knowledge production across academia, government, non-governmental organisations, and corporations have several names, such as citizen-science, community-based participatory research, engaged research and hybrid forums. The multiplicity of schemes does not lie only in the high number of names for various versions of collaborative knowledge production. Different scholars also use concepts in multiple ways, depending on their individual choices, mother disciplines, and the problem area in which collaboration occurs. At the same time, there is a lack of analytical tools that address the full range of collaborative research schemes and provide a systematic set of questions to learn about the schemes, challenges, and opportunities. Based on our review of academic journal articles highlighting collaborative research schemes, this paper aims to analyse three parameters which it is fair to say that virtually all arrangements of collaborative knowledge production ought to consider when making decisions, parameters that are often partially missed or misunderstood: (A) epistemic-procedural, (B) exclusive-inclusive and (C) aggregative-integrative. By examining the three parameters, their political theory origins, and how they connect to and challenge existing schemes of knowledge collaboration, we provide analytical tools that could facilitate processes of developing and scrutinising arrangements of collaborative research.

  • Pairwise likelihood estimation for structural equation modeling with ordinal and continuous variables
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A pairwise likelihood (PL) estimation method is developed for structural equation models (SEM) with continuous and ordinal observed variables where covariates may also be included. The proposed methodology starts off with the development of PL for estimating the mean vector and the covariance matrix of a variable vector consisting of continuous and ordinal variables. Later on a parametric structure is given to the mean vector and the covariance matrix according to a general SEM. The suggested method is demonstrated using an example with empirical data. An R code has been written which has been implemented in the R package lavaan (version 0.5-11). Maximum likelihood estimation, as implemented in Mplus (version 5.21) and in LISREL (version 9.10), is not feasible for our example due to its high computational complexity.

  • Measurement of event background fluctuations for charged particle jet reconstruction in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN)=2.76 TeV
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479. ; :3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The effect of event background fluctuations on charged particle jet reconstruction in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV has been measured with the ALICE experiment. The main sources of non-statistical fluctuations are characterized based purely on experimental data with an unbiased method, as well as by using single high p(t) particles and simulated jets embedded into real Pb-Pb events and reconstructed with the anti-k(t) jet finder. The influence of a low transverse momentum cut-off on particles used in the jet reconstruction is quantified by varying the minimum track p(t) between 0.15 GeV/c and 2 GeV/c. For embedded jets reconstructed from charged particles with p(t) > 0.15 GeV/c, the uncertainty in the reconstructed jet transverse momentum due to the heavy-ion background is measured to be 11.3 GeV/c (standard deviation) for the 10% most central Pb-Pb collisions, slightly larger than the value of 11.0 GeV/c measured using the unbiased method. For a higher particle transverse momentum threshold of 2 GeV/c, which will generate a stronger bias towards hard fragmentation in the jet finding process, the standard deviation of the fluctuations in the reconstructed jet transverse momentum is reduced to 4.8-5.0 GeV/c for the 10% most central events. A non-Gaussian tail of the momentum uncertainty is observed and its impact on the reconstructed jet spectrum is evaluated for varying particle momentum thresholds, by folding the measured fluctuations with steeply falling spectra.

  • Mechanical properties of different geometries of CFRP grid : tensile evaluation of material properties
  • 2006
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • There are a number of components included in strengthening of concrete with mineral based composites; base concrete that is in need of strengthening, primers, polymer modified cement bonding agents and carbon fibre reinforced polymers (CFRP). CFRP are light weight composites of carbon fibres imbedded in a matrix that can be tailor-made into different geometries. This report is a part of an ongoing evaluation of a concrete strengthening technique using mineral based composites. This report was done to evaluate the tensile properties of different CFRP grids included in strengthening of concrete with mineral based composites. The experimental test set-up was performed as pure tensile of smaller parts of the different grids. The main mechanical properties presented in the report are failure stress, modulus of elasticity and failure strain. The result was compared to the values provided by the manufacturer. In the results no clear trends was evident between the experimental values and the manufacturer values. In the results it can be concluded that the mechanical properties provided by the manufacturer can not be used as design values. The experimental values were both higher and lower than the manufacturer values for the failure stress and modulus of elasticity. Different failure types of the grids are illustrated in the report.

  • The politics of Ecosocialism. Transforming Welfare
  • 2017
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • As the global economy seeks to recover from the financial crisis and warnings about the consequences of climate change abound, it is clear that we need a fundamentally new approach to tackle these issues. This innovative book offers a unique perspective, stressing the necessity of both ecological and social change as it discusses how to create a "red-green" or "eco-socialist" society. Examining the current crises of welfare capitalism as well as the challenges and conflicts of an eco-socialist society, the book proposes a new social order that would combine the ideals of egalitarianism andof environmental sustainability. It analyses the key social and ecological issues related to the welfare state, including green Keynesianism, ecological Marxism, the limits of growth and no-growth, capitalist barriers to a renewable energy transition, proposals for a universal basic income and the role of technology. Finally, the book outlines possible paths of transformation towards creating an eco-socialist society, drawing out lessons that can be applied internationally. This book will be of great interest to students and researchers in economics, environmental studies and political science.

  • (KsKs0)-K-0 correlations in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV from the LHC ALICE experiment
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters. Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693. ; 717:1-3, s. 151-161
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Identical neutral kaon pair correlations are measured in root s = 7 TeV pp collisions in the ALICE experiment. One-dimensional (KsKs0)-K-0 correlation functions in terms of the invariant momentum difference of kaon pairs are formed in two multiplicity and two transverse momentum ranges. The femtoscopic parameters for the radius and correlation strength of the kaon source are extracted. The fit includes quantum statistics and final-state interactions of the a(0)/f(0) resonance. (KsKs0)-K-0 correlations show an increase in radius for increasing multiplicity and a slight decrease in radius for increasing transverse mass, mT, as seen in pi pi correlations in pp collisions and in heavy-ion collisions. Transverse mass scaling is observed between the (KsKs0)-K-0 and pi pi radii. Also, the first observation is made of the decay of the f(2)'(1525) meson into the (KsKs0)-K-0 channel in pp collisions.
