  • Yrast spectroscopy in the neutron-deficient nucleus Os-169
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics. - : American Physical Society. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 66:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Excited states in the neutron-deficient isotope Os-169 have been identified for the first time in an experiment using the Jurosphere gamma-ray spectrometer in conjunction with the Ritu gas-filled recoil separator. The problems associated with identifying neutron-deficient isotopes produced with low fusion cross sections against a high background of competing channels, including fission, have been overcome by using the recoil-decay tagging technique. The band structures observed in Os-169 are interpreted in the context of the systematics of neighboring nuclei and the predictions of cranked Woods-Saxon calculations. The systematics of the second (i(13/2))(2) neutron alignment in this region are discussed.

  • Band Structure of 68Ge
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 63:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The nucleus Ge-68 has been studied by gamma-ray spectroscopy following its population at high spin in the reaction Ca-40(S-32,4p) Ge-68. The reaction channel was selected with the Microball array and gamma rays were detected with the Gammasphere array. The level scheme is very complex, reflecting the many different, and presumably mixed, excitation modes in this nucleus. Nevertheless, there appear to be some simplifications in the spin range above 18 (h) over bar where we have identified a superdeformed band and several terminating bands. The results are compared with a cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky model without pairing.

  • Two-neutron alignment and shape changes in As-69
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 6202:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The nucleus As-69 was Studied using the Ca-40(S-32,3p)As-69 reaction at a beam energy of 105 MeV. An extension of the band built on the g(9/2) orbital was observed to exhibit a band crossing at a rotational frequency of 0.511 MeV with an associated alignment of 7 (h) over bar. This alignment is interpreted as being due to a pair of g(9/2) neutrons. Total Routhian surface calculations have been carried out which confirm that the shape of this nucleus changes from oblate at low spin to a triaxial prolate shape at intermediate spin.

  • Identification of excited states in Os-167 and Os-168 : shape coexistence at extreme neutron deficiency
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - : Elsevier. - 0375-9474 .- 1873-1554. ; 689:04-mar, s. 631-654
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Excited states in the very neutron-deficient isotopes Os-167 and Os-168 have been observed using the reaction Sn-112(Ni-58, 2pxn). The JUROSPHERE gamma -ray spectrometer array was used in conjunction with the RITU gas-filled recoil separator to collect prompt gamma radiation in coincidence with recoils implanted in a silicon strip detector located at the focal plane of RITU. Using a selective recoil decay tagging technique it has been possible to unambiguously assign gamma -ray transitions to Os-167 and Os-168 through the characteristic a radioactivity of these nuclides. The high-spin structure of the bands is discussed in terms of quasiparticle configurations within the framework of the cranked shell model. The role of shape coexistence in Os-168 is examined with phenomenological three-band mixing calculations.

  • Perceptive presence
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications. - 0272-1716 .- 1558-1756. ; 23, s. 26-36
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Perceptive presence systems automatically convey awareness of user states to a remote location or application without the user having to perform explicit commands or mode selection. The article describes a component-based architecture for creating presence applications using perceptual user interface widgets. Each widget performs a machine perception function, such as tracking a face or monitoring activity in a specific 3D location. Widgets provide an abstraction barrier between the perception algorithms and the needs of application writers. Two example applications developed using this framework are presented: one uses a luminous display to express a user’s availability for communication to a colleague at a remote location, and a second uses activity to control devices in a context-aware environment.

  • Effective Charges in the fp Shell
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114. ; 93:22
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Following the heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reaction S-32+Mg-24 at 95 MeV beam energy the lifetimes of analogue states in the T-z=+/-1/2 A=51 mirror nuclei Fe-51 and Mn-51 have been measured using the Cologne plunger device coupled to the GASP gamma-ray spectrometer. The deduced B(E2;27/2(-)-->23/2(-)) values afford a unique opportunity to probe isoscalar and isovector polarization charges and to derive effective proton and neutron charges, epsilon(p) and epsilon(n), in the fp shell. A comparison between the experimental results and several different large-scale shell-model calculations yields epsilon(p)similar to1.15e and epsilon(n)similar to0.80e.

  • Core Excited States in the A=51 Mirror Nuclei
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 70:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Three previously unknown high-energy gamma-ray transitions between 4.2 and 5.4 MeV were identified in the T-z=-1/2 nucleus Fe-51 following the fusion-evaporation reaction S-32(Si-28, 2alpha1n)Fe-51. These transitions represent decays of core excited states. The gamma rays were detected in the Ge detector array Gammasphere combined with the neutron detector system Neutron Shell and the charged-particle array Microball. The three transitions are related to the mirror transitions in the T-z= + 1 /2 nucleus Mn-51, and the resulting mirror-energy difference diagram is discussed with predictions from large-scale shell-model calculations.

  • Evidence for a 1g9/2 Rotational Band in 51Mn
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 66:5, s. 513011-513015
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A terminating rotational band has been identified in Mn-51 following the Si-28(S-32,2alpha1p)Mn-51 fusion-evaporation reaction at 130 MeV beam energy. Spins and tentative positive parities of the band members are assigned based on angular distribution and correlation measurements of transitions, which connect the rotational structure with previously known yrast states. Configuration-dependent cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations suggest a configuration of the band, which comprises one particle in the 1g(9/2) intruder orbit.

  • Gamma-ray Spectroscopy of Core-excited States in 51Mn
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 70:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The level scheme of Mn-51 has been investigated using the Si-28(S-32 2alpha1p)Mn-51 fusion-evaporation reaction at 125 MeV beam energy. The gamma rays were detected in the Ge-detector array Gammasphere, which was coupled to the 4pi-charged-particle detector Microball and the Neutron Shell for the coincident detection of evaporated particles. Over 100 new gamma-ray transitions connecting some 50 excited states have been identified. Most of the states are built on particle-hole excitations across the shell gaps at particle number N=Z=28. The rich experimental data allows for a 'comprehensive comparison of core-excited states with results from large-scale shell-model calculations, which are known to provide excellent predictions for the lower-lying yrast and near-yrast levels in 1f(7/2) nuclei.
