  • Myocardial Protective Effect of Maintained Beta-Blockade in Aorto-Coronary Bypass Surgery
  • 1983
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Cardiovascular Journal. - : Informa Healthcare. - 1401-7431 .- 1651-2006. ; 17:1, s. 29-32
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Twenty-nine patients were randomly allocated to two groups before undergoing aorto-coronary bypass surgery. In one group the beta-blocking medication was withdrawn three days preoperatively, and in the other group it was maintained. The patients in the latter group were additionally given 100 mg metoprolol per os two hours before surgery. The degree of myocardial injury, as judged from cumulated activity of S-CK B, was less when the beta-blockade was maintained.

  • Reduction of dental fear: psychophysiological correlates.
  • 1986
  • Ingår i: Community dentistry and oral epidemiology. - 0301-5661. ; 14:5, s. 253-7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • EMG, HR and SCR were continuously recorded during two Standardized Dental Examinations (SDE) of 15 dental phobics. Following the first SDE, the patients were assigned to two treatment groups, one receiving systematic desensitization followed by two separate amalgam restorations and one premedicated with Valium for the two restorations. The dentist rated the patients' behavior on a 5-point scale. Corah's Dental Anxiety Scale (DAS) was used prior to the first SDE and following the second SDE. The second SDE was conducted on a separate occasion following the second restoration. No significant correlations were found between any of the physiological measures and either the dentist's ratings or the second DAS or DAS change scores. Significant differences found between the two treatment groups on the dentist's ratings, second DAS, and change scores were not reflected by the physiological measures.

  • Research in clinical process and outcome methodology: psychophysiology, systematic desensitization and dental fear.
  • 1985
  • Ingår i: Journal of behavior therapy and experimental psychiatry. - 0005-7916. ; 16:3, s. 201-9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Eleven dental phobics were treated with a modified systematic desensitization procedure which included EMG biofeedback and videotaped scene presentations. During treatment, multiple psychophysiological recordings as well as subjective and psychometric assessments of mood were made. Intraindividual correlations between process variables were, to a large extent, idiosyncratic. Variance in treatment outcome could be accounted for by change-over treatment sessions of psychometrically assessed mood (R2 = .76) alone or in combination with change-over treatment sessions of minimum heart rate (R2 = .84). The process variable correlation patterns indicate a need for much more multivariate methodological research.

  • Electrocardiographic changes and their relation to serum enzyme activity after heart surgery
  • 1984
  • Ingår i: The thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon. - : Georg Thieme Verlag. - 0171-6425 .- 1439-1902. ; 32:6, s. 365-368
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In 80 patients who underwent heart surgery the incidence of electrocardiographic (ECG) changes after the operation was analysed. A precordial grid containing 24 leads and leads II, III and aVF was used. Electrocardiographic measurements were taken the day before the operation and again 5 days after the operation. New Q-waves were observed in 2 patients (2.5%) in the 24 precordial leads, in 2 patients in leads II, III and aVF, and in one patient in both precordial leads and leads II, III and aVF. New T-wave inversions were observed in 20 patients (25%) in the 24 precordial leads, in 5 patients (6%) in leads II, III and aVF, and in 3 patients in both precordial leads and leads II, III and aVF. A similar serum enzyme activity was observed both in patients developing Q-waves as well as T-wave inversions compared with cases in whom ECG changes did not appear.
