  • High-dose therapy with autologous stem cell transplantation in patients with peripheral T cell lymphomas.
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Bone Marrow Transplantation. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0268-3369 .- 1476-5365. ; 27:7, s. 711-6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Peripheral T cell lymphomas (PTCL) have a poorer prognosis after conventional treatment than do high-grade B cell lymphomas. The place for high-dose therapy (HDT) with autologous stem cell support in these patients is still not clear. Forty patients, 10 women and 30 men, median age 41.5 years (range 16-61) with PTCL were treated with HDT and autologous stem cell support at The Norwegian Radium Hospital, Oslo, Norway and The University Hospital, Uppsala, Sweden, between February 1990 and September 1999. The histologic subtypes were: PTCL unspecified, 20 patients; intestinal, two patients; angioimmunoblastic (AILD), two patients; angiocentric, two patients and anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), 14 patients. All patients had chemosensitive disease and had received anthracycline-containing regimens prior to transplantation. At the time of HDT, 17 patients were in first PR or CR and 23 were in second or third PR or CR. Conditioning regimens were BEAM in 15 patients, BEAC in 14 patients, cyclophosphamide and total body irradiation (TBI) in eight patients, BEAC, without etoposide and TBI in one patient and mitoxantrone and melphalan in two patients. There were three (7.5%) treatment-related deaths. The estimated overall survival (OS) at 3 years was 58%, the event-free survival (EFS) 48% and the relapse-free survival (RFS) 56%, with a median follow-up of 36 months (range 7-100) for surviving patients. The patients with ALCL tended to have a better prognosis compared to those with other PTCL subtypes, OS 79% vs 44%, respectively. In conclusion, patients with chemosensitive PTCL who are failing to achieve CR with first-line chemotherapy or are in relapse can successfully be treated with HDT and autologous stem cell support.

  • Excited States in 103Sn: Neutron Single-particle Energies with Respect to 100Sn
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 63:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Gamma-ray lines from Sn-103 have been identified for the first time using EUROBALL and ancillary detectors. The level scheme of Sn-103 has been established by means of particle-gated gamma gamma coincidences. The energy spacing between the g(7/2) and d(5/2) neutron single-particle orbitals is determined from the excited states in Sn-103.

  • Overweight, obesity and fat distribution in 50-to 64-year-old participants in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC)
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Public Health Nutrition. - 1475-2727. ; 5:6B, s. 1147-1162
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To describe anthropometric characteristics of participants of the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC). Design: A cross-sectional analysis of baseline data of a European prospective cohort study. Subjects: This analysis includes study populations from 25 centres in nine European countries. The British populations comprised both a population-based and a 'health-conscious' group. The analysis was restricted to 83 178 men and 163 851 women aged 50-64 years, this group being represented in all centres. Methods: Anthropometric examinations were undertaken by trained observers using standardised methods and included measurements of weight, height, and waist and hip circumferences. In the 'health-conscious' group (UK), anthropometric measures were predicted from self-reports. Results: Except in the 'health-conscious' group (UK) and in the French centres, mean body mass index (BMI) exceeded 25.0 kg m(-2). The prevalence of obesity (BMI greater than or equal to 30 kg m(-2)) varied from 8% to 40% in men, and from 5% to 53% in women, with high prevalences (> 25%) in the centres from Spain, Greece, Ragusa and Naples (Italy) and the lowest prevalences (< 10%) in the French centres and the 'health-conscious' group (UK). The prevalence of a large waist circumference or a high waist-to-hip ratio was high in centres from Spain, Greece, Ragusa and Naples (Italy) and among women from centres in Germany and Bilthoven (The Netherlands). Conclusions: Anthropometric measures varied considerably within the EPIC population. These data provide a strong base for further investigation of anthropometric measures in relation to the risk of chronic diseases, especially cancer.

  • Birth weight is associated with postmenopausal breast cancer risk in Swedish women
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: British Journal of Cancer. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1532-1827 .- 0007-0920. ; 21, s. 1666-1668
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There is some evidence that birth weight is associated with breast cancer. Whether this association differs between premenopausal and postmenopausal ages is still unclear. The results from this study suggest that higher birth weight is a risk factor for postmenopausal breast cancer (OR 1.06, CI 1.00-1.12, per 100 g), independent of selected early-life and adult factors.
