  • Least Squares End Performance Experiment Design in Multicarrier Systems : The Sparse Preamble Case
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: 2014 European Control Conference (ECC). - : IEEE. - 9783952426913 ; , s. 13-18
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, the problem of experiment design for the task of channel identification in cyclic prefixed orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CP-OFDM) systems is revisited. So far, the optimal input sequences for least squares (LS) channel identification with respect to minimizing the channel mean square error (MSE) under an input energy constraint have been derived. Here, we investigate the same problem for the LS channel estimator, but when the design takes into account an end performance metric of interest, namely, the symbol estimate MSE. Based on some convex approximations, we verify that optimal sparse preambles, i.e, input vectors employing as many pilots as the channel length, for LS channel estimation in its classical context are near optimal in the aforementioned application-oriented context for the symbol estimate MSE.

  • Cortical changes in dental technicians exposed to vibrating tools.
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: NeuroReport. - 1473-558X. ; 21, s. 722-726
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To study the cortical reorganization after long time exposure to hand-held vibrating tools, we investigated 10 dental technicians with sensory neuropathy after long time exposure to vibrating tools and 10 controls for cortical changes using functional magnetic resonance imaging at 3 T. The activated volumes corresponding to individual fingers in the hand area of S1 were significantly larger in the neuropathy group than in controls. Activation in the primary motor cortex did not differ significantly from controls. These changes are likely the result of cortical reorganization following long-term non-physiological sensory input and they can partly explain the symptoms seen in vibration-induced neuropathy.

  • Animal Production With Restrictive Use of Antibiotics to Contain Antimicrobial Resistance in Sweden : A Qualitative Study
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Veterinary Science. - : Frontiers Media S.A.. - 2297-1769. ; 7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Antibacterial resistance (ABR), is a growing global threat to human and animal health. Efforts to contain ABR are urgently needed. This qualitative interview study explored perceptions of work to contain ABR among stakeholders in food animal production in Sweden, with focus on broiler production. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with a strategic sample of 13 stakeholders in different parts of production, from professionals at policy level, veterinary authorities, to poultry farmers and poultry veterinarians. Conventional inductive content analysis was used for data analysis. A latent theme, "Working in unison," emerged, based on the consistency expressed by the informants when they discussed ABR, use of antibiotics, and animal health management. This theme was built on four domains representing the content of the interviews: Knowledge and engagement; Cooperation; Animal health concept; and Development in balance with economic prerequisites. According to the informants, ABR has not been an isolated issue in Sweden but has been included in a tradition of animal health and welfare, and actions have been driven by the industry or by government regulations. Veterinarians described how they worked closely with farmers. Farmers felt involved in the development of animal health management methods. The One Health concept was well-known among stakeholders at national level but not at farm level. Close cooperation between stakeholders seems to facilitate development of animal production with low use of antibiotics.

  • Gender differences when using sedative music during colonoscopy
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Gastroenterology Nursing. - : Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. - 1042-895X .- 1538-9766. ; 36:1, s. 14-20
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Colonoscopy is a procedure often experienced as uncomfortable and worrying. Music has been reported to reduce discomfort during colonoscopy; however, no study in a Swedish setting has been found. The purpose of this randomized controlled trial was to analyze the effects of sedative music on patients' experience of anxiety, pain, relaxation, and well-being during colonoscopy. Prior to colonoscopy, adult patients (n = 120), aged 18–80 years, were randomly assigned to either an intervention group (n = 60) who listened to sedative instrumental music with 60–80 beats per minute during the colonoscopy or a control group. After the colonoscopy, both groups completed a questionnaire on anxiety, the State Trait Anxiety Inventory, and an anxiety Visual Analogue Scale. Pain, relaxation, and well-being were also measured with Visual Analogue Scales. Women in the intervention group had a lower level of anxiety during the colonoscopy than those in the control group (p = .007) and well-being was significantly higher in the intervention group, especially among men, than in the controls (p = .006 and p = .025, respectively). Men in the intervention group were more relaxed during the colonoscopy than those in the control group (p = .065). Listening to sedative music decreased anxiety among women and increased well-being among men during colonoscopy.
