  • Extending the OpenUP/Basic Requirements Discipline to Specify Capacity Requirements
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Requirements Engineering Conference, 2007. RE '07. - : IEEE Computer Society. - 9780769529356 ; , s. 328-333
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Software processes, such as RUP and agile methods, focus their requirements engineering part on use cases and thus functional requirements. Complex products, such as radio network control software, need special handling of non-functional requirements as well. We describe how we used the eclipse process framework to augment the open and minimal OpenUP/basic process with improvements found in management of capacity requirements in a case-study at Ericsson. The result is compared with another project improving RUP to handle performance requirements. The major differences between the improvements are that 1) they suggest a special, dedicated performance manager role and we suggest that present roles are augmented, 2) they suggest a bottom-up approach to performance verification while we focus on system performance first, i.e. top-down. Further, we suggest augmenting UMLl-2 models with capacity attributes to improve information flow from requirements to implementation.

  • Good Practice and Improvement Model of Handling Capacity Requirements of Large Telecommunication Systems
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: 14th IEEE International Requirements Engineering Conference (RE'06), Minneapolis/S:t Paul. - Los Alamitos, CA : IEEE Computer Society. - 0769525555 - 9780769525556 ; , s. 245-250
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There is evidence to suggest that the software industry has not yet matured as regards management of nonfunctional requirements (NFRs). Consequently the cost of achieving required quality is unnecessarily high. To try and avoid this, the telecommunication systems provider Ericsson defined a research task to try and improve the management of requirements for capacity, which is one of the most critical NFRs. Linkoping University joined in the effort and conducted an interview series to investigate good practice within different parts of the company. Inspired by the interviews and an ongoing process improvement project a model for improvement was created and activities were synthesized. This paper contributes the results from the interview series, and details the subprocesses of specification that should be improved. Such improvements are about understanding the relationship between numerical entities at all system levels, augmenting UML specifications to make NFRs visible, working with time budgets, and testing the sub system level components on the same level as they are specified.

  • Integrating an Improvement Model of Handling Capacity Requirements with OpenUP/Basic Process
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: 13th International working conference on Requirements Engineering: Foundations for Software Quality (REFSQ'07), Trondheim, Norway. - Berlin Heidelberg : Springer. - 9783540730309 ; , s. 341-354
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Contemporary software processes and modeling languages have a strong focus on Functional Requirements (FRs), whereas information of Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs) are managed with text-based documentation and individual skills of the personnel. In order to get a better understanding of how capacity requirements are handled, we carried out an interview series with various branches of Ericsson. The analysis of this material revealed 18 Capacity Sub-Processes (CSPs) that need to be attended to create a capacity-oriented development. In this paper we describe all these sub-processes and their mapping into an extension of the OpenUP/Basic software process. Such an extension will support a process engineer in realizing the sub-processes, and has at the same time shown that there are no internal inconsistencies of the CSPs. The extension provides a context for continued research in using UML to support negotiation between requirements and existing design.

  • Density of configurational states from first-principles calculations: The phase diagram of Al-Na surface alloys
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: ChemPhysChem. - : Wiley. - 1439-7641 .- 1439-4235. ; 6:9, s. 1923-1928
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The structural phases of AlxNa1-x surface alloys have been investigated theoretically and experimentally. We describe the system using a lattice gas Hamiltonian, determined from density functional theory together with Monte Carlo (MC) calculations. The obtained phase diagram reproduces the experiment on a quantitative level. From calculation of the (configurational) density of states by recently introduced Wang-Landau MC algorithm, we derive thermodynamic quantities such as free energy and entropy which are not directly accessible from conventional MC simulations. We accurately reproduce the stoichiometry, as well as the temperature at which an order-disorder phase transition occurs, and demonstrate the crucial role, and magnitude of the configurational entropy.

  • Effect of gate length in InAs/AlSb HEMTs biased for low power or high gain
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Solid-State Electronics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0038-1101. ; 52:5, s. 775-781
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The effect of gate-length variation on DC and RF performance of InAs/AlSb HEMTs, biased for low DC power consumption or high gain, is reported. Simultaneously fabricated devices, with gate lengths between 225 nm and 335 nm, have been compared. DC measurements revealed higher output conductance gds and slightly increased impact ionization with reduced gate length. When reducing the gate length from 335 nm to 225 nm, the DC power consumption was reduced by approximately 80% at an fT of 120 GHz. Furthermore, a 225 nm gate-length HEMT biased for high gain exhibited an extrinsic fT of 165 GHz and an extrinsic fmax of 115 GHz, at a DC power consumption of 100 mW/mm. When biased for low DC power consumption of 20 mW/mm the same HEMT exhibited an extrinsic fT and fmax of 120 GHz and 110 GHz, respectively.

  • Tiling resolution array comparative genomic hybridization, expression and methylation analyses of dup(1q) in Burkitt lymphomas and pediatric high hyperdiploid acute lymphoblastic leukemias reveal clustered near-centromeric breakpoints and overexpression of genes in 1q22-32.3
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Human Molecular Genetics. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 0964-6906 .- 1460-2083. ; 16:18, s. 2215-2225
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Although gain of 1q occurs in 25% of Burkitt lymphomas (BLs) and 10% of pediatric high hyperdiploid acute lymphoblastic leukemias (ALLs), little is known about the origin, molecular genetic characteristics and functional outcome of dup(1q) in these disorders. Ten dup(1q)-positive BLs/ALLs were investigated by tiling resolution (32k) array CGH analysis, which revealed that the proximal breakpoints in all cases were near-centromeric, in eight of them clustering within a 1.4 Mb segment in 1q12-21.1. The 1q distal breakpoints were heterogeneous, being more distal in the ALLs than in the BLs. The minimally gained segments in the ALLs and BLs were 57.4 Mb [dup(1)(q22q32.3)] and 35 Mb [dup(1)(q12q25.2)], respectively. Satellite 11 DNA on 1q was not hypomethylated, as ascertained by Southern blot analyses of 15 BLs/ALLs with and without gain of 1q, indicating that aberrant methylation was not involved in the origin of dup(1q), as previously suggested for other neoplasms with 1q rearrangements. Global gene expression analyses revealed that five genes in the minimally 57.4 Mb gained region-B4GALT3, DAP3, RGS16, TMEM183A and UCK2-were significantly overexpressed in dup(1q)-positive ALLs compared with high hyperdiploid ALLs without dup(1q). The DAP3 and UCK2 genes were among the most overexpressed genes in the BL case with gain of 1q investigated. The DAP3 protein has been reported to be highly expressed in invasive glioblastoma multiforme cells, whereas expression of the UCK2 protein has been correlated with sensitivity to anticancer drugs. However, involvement of these genes in dup(1q)-positive ALLs and BLs has previously not been reported.

  • 60 GHz Wavelet Generator for Impulse Radio Applications
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: European Microwave Conference, 2009. EuMC 2009. - 9781424447480 ; , s. 1908-1911, s. 234-237
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A wavelet generator producing 100 ps short pulses at 60 GHz is presented. The wavelet generator consists of a gated tunnel diode (GTD) integrated in parallel with an inductor. This forms a negative differential conductance (NDC) oscillator with the ability to switch the NDC property on and off, which makes it possible to generate short pulses. In the experiments described, the wavelet generator drives a 50 Omega load and delivers 206 mV(pp) when generating 97 ps short pulses at 60 GHz. It Is demonstrated that it is possible to generate pulses of different length and phase. An explanation of the almost instantaneously startup and decay lapse of the oscillator, including generation of signals with opposite phase, is presented. This novel circuit may find use in ultra-wideband impulse radio communication.
