  • Study of neutron rich carbon and oxygen nuclei up to drip line
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0375-9474 .- 1873-1554. ; 746, s. 135C-139C
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In-beam gamma-spectroscopy using fragmentation reactions of radioactive beams have been performed in order to study the structure of excited states in neutron rich oxygen and carbon isotopes. For the produced fragments, gamma-ray energies, intensities and gamma-gamma coincidences have been measured. The experiment was performed at GANIL. New gamma-lines have been identified and placed in level schemes for C17-20. The non observation of any gamma-ray in O-23,O-24 suggests that their first excited states lie above the neutron threshold. These results are discussed in the framework of shell model calculations.

  • Coexistence of superdeformed shapes in Er-154
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - : American Physical Society. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 8702:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A new superdeformed rotational band has been observed in Er-154 using the Euroball Ge detector array. The new band and the one previously observed can be understood as based on coexisting superdeformed structures at prolate and triaxial shapes, respectively. The observation resolves long-standing difficulties in the theoretical interpretation of superdeformed states in Er-154.

  • An international database for the study of the formation of ITBs in tokamaks
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion. - 0741-3335 .- 1361-6587. ; 44, s. A391-A398
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • For the first time, data from eight, different tokamaks have been combined in an international database for internal transport barriers (ITBs). An analysis of the data for the formation of an ITB with dominant ion heating shows a clear dependence of the threshold power on the minor radius and line-averaged electron density for the formation of ion ITBs. The dependence of ITB formation on the toroidal magnetic field is weak. For the formation of ITBs with dominant electron heating, the database is smaller, but for the threshold power a strong increase with plasma size and a weak toroidal field dependence could also be identified. Based on these results, an expression for the power required to form an ITB is given using global variables only. These results give a basis for the analysis of the database using local values (like magnetic shear) and a detailed comparison with theory-based models.

  • Gamma-ray tracking arrays
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: PROGRESS IN PARTICLE AND NUCLEAR PHYSICS, VOL 46. ; , s. 399-407
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The next generation of 4 pi arrays for high-precision gamma -ray spectroscopy will involve "gamma -ray tracking front-end on digital signal processing techniques, which allows to extract energy, timing and spatial information on the interactions of a gamma -ray in the Ge detector by pulse shape analysis of its signals. Utilizing the information on the positions of the interaction points and the energies released at each point the tracks of the gamma -rays in a Ge shell can be reconstructed in three dimensions.

  • Coherent proton-neutron contribution to octupole correlations in the neutron-deficient Xe-114 nucleus
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters B. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 535:04-jan, s. 93-102
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Gamma ray linear polarization and picosecond lifetimes have been measured for levels in the neutron deficient nucleus Xe-114 using the EUROBALL IV spectrometer and the Cologne plunger device. The EUCLIDES Si-ball was used to improve the reaction channel selectivity. The linear polarization results have, for the first time, unambiguously determined the electromagnetic character of the dipole transitions de-exciting the negative parity level sequence, providing clear evidence for enhanced octupole collectivity. The discovery of two E3 transitions and the measurement of the lifetimes of the states depopulated by these transitions have allowed a quantitative determination of the octupole collectivity in the A approximate to 112 mass region. The large measured B(E3) values, close to approximate to 70 W.u., are among the strongest observed hitherto and indicate a coherent proton-neutron contribution to the octupole moment.

  • Different effects of high and low shear stress on platelet-derived growth factor isoform release by endothelial cells : consequences for smooth muscle cell migration
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology. - : Ovid Technologies (Wolters Kluwer Health). - 1079-5642 .- 1524-4636. ; 22:3, s. 405-411
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the present study, we analyzed the effect of conditioned media (CM) from bovine aortic endothelial cells exposed to laminar shear stress (SS) of 5 dyne/cm2 (SS5) or 15 dyne/cm2 (SS15) for 16 hours on smooth muscle cell (SMC) migration. In response to CM from bovine aortic endothelial cells exposed to SS5 (CMSS5) and SS15 (CMSS15), migration was 45 +/- 5.5 and 30 +/- 1.5 cells per field, respectively (P<0.05). Similar results were obtained with SS of 2 versus 20 dyne/cm2 and also when SS of 5 and 15 dyne/cm2 lasted 24 hours. Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-AA levels in CMSS5 and CMSS15 were 9 +/- 7 and 18 +/- 5 ng/10(6) cells for 16 hours, respectively (P<0.05); PDGF-BB levels in CMSS5 and CMSS15 were 38 +/- 10 and 53 +/- 10 ng/10(6) cells for 16 hours, respectively (P<0.05). PDGF receptor alpha (PDGFRalpha) and PDGF receptor beta (PDGFRbeta) in SMCs were phosphorylated by CMSS15>CMSS5. In response to CMSS15, a neutralizing antibody against PDGF-AA enhanced SMC migration to a level comparable to that of CMSS5; in contrast, antibodies against PDGF-BB abolished SMC migration. Transfection of SMCs with a dominant-negative PDGFRalpha or PDGFRbeta increased or inhibited, respectively, SMC migration in response to CMSS15. Overexpression of wild-type PDGFRalpha inhibited SMC migration in response to CMSS5, CMSS15, or recombinant PDGF-BB (P<0.001). These results suggest that the ability of high SS to inhibit arterial wall thickening in vivo may be related to enhanced activation of PDGFRalpha in SMCs by PDGF isoforms secreted by the endothelium.
