  • El Apego Va a Juicio: Problemas de Custodia y Protección Infantil : [Attachment goes to court: Child protection and custody issues]
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Anuario de psicología jurídica. - : Colegio Oficial de la Psicologia de Madrid. - 1133-0740 .- 2174-0542. ; 32:1, s. 115-139
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Attachment theory and research are drawn upon in many applied settings, including family courts, but misunderstandings are widespread and sometimes result in misapplications. The aim of this consensus statement is, therefore, to enhance understanding, counter misinformation, and steer family-court utilisation of attachment theory in a supportive, evidence-based direction, especially with regard to child protection and child custody decision-making. This article is divided into two parts. In the first part, we address problems related to the use of attachment theory and research in family courts, and discuss reasons for these problems. To this end, we examine family court applications of attachment theory in the current context of the best-interest-of-the-child standard, discuss misunderstandings regarding attachment theory, and identify factors that have hindered accurate implementation. In the second part, we provide recommendations for the application of attachment theory and research. To this end, we set out three attachment principles: the child's need for familiar, non-abusive caregivers; the value of continuity of good-enough care; and the benefits of networks of attachment relationships. We also discuss the suitability of assessments of attachment quality and caregiving behaviour to inform family court decision-making. We conclude that assessments of caregiver behaviour should take center stage. Although there is dissensus among us regarding the use of assessments of attachment quality to inform child custody and child-protection decisions, such assessments are currently most suitable for targeting and directing supportive interventions. Finally, we provide directions to guide future interdisciplinary research collaboration.

  • A cross-cultural comparison of factors associated with marijuana use among college students in the United States and Sweden
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: The international journal of alcohol and drug research. - : Ohio State University Press. - 1925-7066. ; 9:2, s. 52-58
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aims: Marijuana is a popular drug among U.S. college students. In Sweden, the prevalence of marijuana use has been relatively low but is increasing. Brief, personalized interventions have been efficacious in reducing substance use, including marijuana, among college students in the U.S. However, prior to implementation of U.S. interventions in Sweden, it is important to compare factors associated with marijuana use among college students in the two countries. Design, Setting, and Participants: Data are from baseline assessments of two large college student intervention studies in the U.S. (N = 3,753, 39% male) and Sweden (N = 2,280, 35% male). Measures: Past 30-day prevalence and frequency of marijuana use was analyzed in regard to relevant demographic factors. The moderating role of nationality was also examined. Findings: Results support previous findings indicating marijuana use is more common in the U.S. than in Sweden. Most demographic factors were similar across the countries, except for relationship status and work status, in which associations with number of marijuana use days (but not odds of any marijuana use) were stronger for Swedish college students compared to U.S. college students. Conclusions: Based on overall similarities between the U.S. and Sweden, comparable interventions might be recommended in both countries.

  • Unraveling the histories of Proterozoic shales through in situ Rb-Sr dating and trace element laser ablation analysis
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Geology. - : Geological Society of America. - 0091-7613 .- 1943-2682. ; 50:1, s. 66-70
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Authigenic components in marine sediments are important archives for past environment reconstructions. However, defining reliable age constraints and assessing the effects of post depositional overprints in Precambrian sequences are challenging. We demonstrate a new laser-based analytical approach that has the potential to rapidly and accurately evaluate the depositional and alteration histories of Proterozoic shales. Our study employs a novel application of in situ Rb-Sr dating coupled with simultaneous trace-element analysis using reaction-cell laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-tandem mass spectrometry (LA-ICPMS/MS). We present results from shales sourced from two wells in the Proterozoic McArthur Basin, northern Australia. These rocks have been widely used by previous studies as a key section for ancient biogeochemical and paleo-redox reconstructions. Shales from well UR5 yielded initial Sr-87/Sr-86 ratios, Rb-Sr ages, and rare earth element plus yttrium (REEY) patterns similar to those of a dolerite sampled from the same core. We propose that the UR5 samples chronicle hydrothermal alteration instigated by the dolerite intrusion. In contrast, a correlative shale from well UR6 yielded an age consistent with the expected depositional age (1577 +/- 56 Ma) with REEY and initial Sr-87/Sr-86 ratios similar to ca. 1.5 Ga seawater. We suggest that this sample records the minimum depositional age and early marine diagenetic history for this unit. This new technique can date Proterozoic shales quickly, cheaply, and with minimum sample preparation. Importantly, ages are triaged to differentiate between those recording primary marine versus secondary processes. This novel approach provides a potentially powerful tool for dating and fingerprinting the vast array of ancient marine shales for further studies of Earth systems through deep time.

  • Tracking the Adoption of Early Pottery Traditions into Maritime Northeast Asia : Emerging Insights and New Questions
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Maritime Prehistory of Northeast Asia.
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Understanding the emergence and development of coastal adaptations is a central theme in the archaeology of Maritime Northeast Asia. The capacity to harvest, store and share aquatic resources offered a novel economic strategy that could support greater sedentism and new forms of social life. In turn, growing reliance on the exploitation of rich coastal resources wouldhave generated powerful incentives to invent, adopt or refine food-processing technologies such as pottery. By the end of the Holocene, marine-adapted cultures were present along all habitable coastlines and most of them maintained some kind of pottery tradition, though the deeper origins of the apparent relationship remain obscure. To explore evolving associationsbetween early pottery dispersals and the emergence of coastal adaptations we undertake a broad-scale chrono-spatial analysis of the expansion of these two phenomena across Northeast Asia and into Alaska, and then use this framework to discuss regional trajectories in more detail. Our preliminary results suggest that pottery and coastal economies have complex, andlargely separate histories, and that closer associations only start to emerge in later times. While limitations in the quality and coverage of data make these insights tentative, this mapping exercise highlights important themes requiring further research. Improved chronological frameworks are needed in all areas to better correlate cultural developments with climatic and environmental changes. Many regions would also benefit from large-scale analysis of food residues preserved in pottery to clarify general patterns in vessel function. More contextual analysis is needed to clarify how pottery use relates to other food processing and storage technologies, and to explain why some only contemporary sites contain pottery while others do not. Finally, comparative insights from ethnography and oral history can shed light on laterdevelopments in food-processing technologies and will improve understanding of how ancestral cooking traditions continue to inform northern Indigenous food cultures.

  • Exome sequencing reveals common and rare variants in F5 associated with ACE inhibitor and angiotensin receptor blocker-induced angioedema
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0009-9236 .- 1532-6535. ; 108:6, s. 1195-1202
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Angioedema occurring in the head and neck region is a rare and sometimes life-threatening adverse reactionto angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). Few studies have investigated the association of common variants with this extreme reaction, but none have explored the combined influence of rare variants yet. Adjudicated cases of ACEI-induced angioedema (ACEI-AE) or ARB-induced angioedema (ARB-AE) and controls were recruited at five different centers. Sequencing of 1,066 samples (408 ACEI-AE, ARB-AE, and 658 controls) was performed using exome-enriched sequence data. A common variant of the F5 gene that causes an increase in blood clotting (rs6025, p.Arg506Gln, also called factor V Leiden), was significantly associated with both ACEI-AE and ARB-AE (odds ratio: 2.85, 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.89–4.25). A burden test analysisof five rare missense variants in F5 was also found to be associated with ACEI-AE or ARB-AE, P = 2.09 × 10−3. A combined gene risk score of these variants, and the common variants rs6025 and rs6020, showed that individuals carrying at least one variant had 2.21 (95% CI, 1.49–3.27, P = 6.30 × 10−9) times the odds of having ACEI-AE or ARB-AE. The increased risk due to the common Leiden allele was confirmed in a genome-wide association study from the United States. A high risk of angioedema was also observed for the rs6020 variant that is the main coagulation defect-causing variant in black African and Asian populations. We found that deleterious missense variants in F5 are associated with an increased risk of ACEI-AE or ARB-AE.

  • Development of an International Standard Set of Outcomes and Measurement Methods for Routine Practice for Adults with Epilepsy: The International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement Consensus Recommendations
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: EPILEPSIA. - 0013-9580 .- 1528-1167.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • At present, there is no internationally accepted set of core outcomes or measurement methods for epilepsy clinical practice. Therefore, the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) convened an international working group of experts in epilepsy, people with epilepsy and their representatives to develop minimum sets of standardized outcomes and outcomes measurement methods for clinical practice that support patient-clinician decision-making and quality improvement. Consensus methods identified 20 core outcomes. Measurement tools were recommended based on their evidence of strong clinical measurement properties, feasibility, and cross-cultural applicability. The essential outcomes included many non-seizure outcomes: anxiety, depression, suicidality, memory and attention, sleep quality, functional status, and the social impact of epilepsy. The proposed set will facilitate the implementation of the use of patient-centered outcomes in daily practice, ensuring holistic care. They also encourage harmonization of outcome measurement, and if widely implemented should reduce the heterogeneity of outcome measurement, accelerate comparative research, and facilitate quality improvement efforts.
