- Objective To evaluate how self-reported leisure-time physical activity (PA) changes during the adult life span, and to study how PA is related to cardiovascular risk factors using longitudinal studies. Methods Several Swedish population-based longitudinal studies were used in the present study (PIVUS, ULSAM, SHE, and SHM, ranging from hundreds to 30,000 participants) to represent information across the adult life span in both sexes. Also, two cross-sectional studies were used as comparison (EpiHealth, LifeGene). PA was assessed by questionnaires on a four or five-level scale. Results Taking results from several samples into account, an increase in PA from middle-age up to 70 years was found in males, but not in females. Following age 70, a decline in PA was seen. Young adults reported both a higher proportion of sedentary behavior and a higher proportion high PA than the elderly. Females generally reported a lower PA at all ages. PA was mainly associated with serum triglycerides and HDL-cholesterol, but also weaker relationships with fasting glucose, blood pressure and BMI were found. These relationships were generally less strong in elderly subjects. Conclusion Using data from multiple longitudinal samples the development of PA over the adult life span could be described in detail and the relationships between PA and cardiovascular risk factors were portrayed. In general, a higher or increased physical activity over time was associated with a more beneficial cardiovascular risk factor profile, especially lipid levels.

- Jane Addams referred to herself as a sociologist, but what Addams is remembered for today has little to do either with her reputation as a scholar, or with the sociological articles and books that she wrote for sociological audiences. She is instead remembered for the activities that she regarded as comprising important spheres of application of her professional skills and knowledge, not as the essence of her professional calling, such as acting as a public intellectual in service to the cause of social justice, equality, and social welfare. The sociological community was quite reluctant throughout the twentieth century to acknowledge her status as a professional sociologist and a founder of the discipline. Addams’ recognition as sociologist is closely related to, and in fact inseparable from, the recovery of the sociological identity of her Hull-House. However, gaining a clear understanding of the latter entails sorting out the relationships between sociology and social work, which have remained problematic ever since the two disciplines were separated, as well as acknowledging that Hull-House is an historical site important for the emergence and institutionalization of sociology. After the many works on Addams which have been written from a sense of duty, solidarity, or political correctness, now is the time to look beyond ‘what is the case’ in order to find out ‘what lies behind it.’ The present text addresses important questions in a way that promises to revitalize the discussion and lead it in new directions.

- We study the boundedness of rough Fourier integral and pseudodifferential operators, defined by general rough Hörmander class amplitudes, on Banach and quasi-Banach LpLp spaces. Thereafter we apply the aforementioned boundedness in order to improve on some of the existing boundedness results for Hörmander class bilinear pseudodifferential operators and certain classes of bilinear (as well as multilinear) Fourier integral operators. For these classes of amplitudes, the boundedness of the aforementioned Fourier integral operators turn out to be sharp. Furthermore we also obtain results for rough multilinear operators.

- Fast protons can react with tritons in an endothermic nuclear reaction which can act as a source of neutrons in magnetically confined fusion plasmas. We have performed an experiment to systematically study this reaction in low tritium concentration (approximate to 1%) plasmas in the Joint European Torus. A linear dependence is found between excess neutron rate and tritium concentration when the DT fusion rate is low. We discuss the properties of the neutron emission, including anisotropy, from the proton-triton reaction in a fusion reactor environment and derive simple models for the calculation of the neutron yield from this reaction in terms of tritium density, fast ion temperature and fast ion energy content.

- Datajournalistik är ett växande område inom journalistiken. Det handlar både om hur man använder datorn för research och analys av stora datamängder och om hur detta kan visualiseras i till exempel interaktiv grafik och nya typer av tjänster.I denna studie görs den första större innehållsanalysen av svensk datajournalistik, av var den återfinns, vad den berättar om och hur den presenteras. I studien finns också en översikt över den växande internationella forskningen kring datajournalistik. Studien är gjord av Sanna Volny, lärare i journalistik vid Södertörns högskola och ansvarig för den fristående kurs i datajournalistik som getts sedan 2015.

- The simultaneous control of the density and particle number of non-neutral plasmas confined in Penning-Malmberg traps is demonstrated. Control is achieved by setting the plasma's density by applying a rotating electric field while simultaneously fixing its axial potential via evaporative cooling. This novel method is particularly useful for stabilizing positron plasmas, as the procedures used to collect positrons from radioactive sources typically yield plasmas with variable densities and particle numbers; it also simplifies optimization studies that require plasma parameter scans. The reproducibility achieved by applying this technique to the positron and electron plasmas used by the ALPHA antihydrogen experiment at CERN, combined with other developments, contributed to a 10-fold increase in the antiatom trapping rate.

- Microorganisms that have a pH optimum for growth of less than pH 3 are termed "acidophiles". To grow at low pH, acidophiles must maintain a pH gradient of several pH units across the cellular membrane while producing ATP by the influx of protons through the F(0)F(1) ATPase. Recent advances in the biochemical analysis of acidophiles coupled to sequencing of several genomes have shed new insights into acidophile pH homeostatic mechanisms. Acidophiles seem to share distinctive structural and functional characteristics including a reversed membrane potential, highly impermeable cell membranes and a predominance of secondary transporters. Also, once protons enter the cytoplasm, methods are required to alleviate effects of a lowered internal pH. This review highlights recent insights regarding how acidophiles are able to survive and grow in these extreme conditions.
