New γ transitions in 27Na from 14C on 14C
- 2001

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- The neutron rich 27Na was studied at Florida State University using the 14C(14C,p) reaction at 22 MeV. The 14C target was 0.28 mg/cm2 thick. γ-γ and particle-γ, coincidences were measured using 2 four-crystal clover detectors, 7 Compton-suppressed HPGe detectors, and a particle detector telescope at 0°. The 1757, 1823, and 2219 keV transitions are likely yrast transitions in 27Na. Based on systematics of neighboring nuclei, the first two lines probably arise from the decays of the 7/2+ and 9/2+ states. The results will be discussed in terms of both the shell model and the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky rotational model.

Structure of neutron-rich s-d shell nuclei

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- States in neutron-rich s-d shell nuclei were populated in the reaction of a 14C beam at Elab = 22 MeV on a 14C target. Coincidences between γ rays and either other γ rays or light charged particles were measured. γ rays in coincidence with protons established levels at 66.8, 1730, 1823, and 2219 keV in 27Na. The states are compared with calculations based on the s-d shell model and the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky model. A number of levels in 24Ne were observed in both α-γ and α-γ-γ coincidences and are compared with shell-model calculations.

Effective Charges in the fp Shell
- 2004
-
Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114. ; 93:22

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- Following the heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reaction S-32+Mg-24 at 95 MeV beam energy the lifetimes of analogue states in the T-z=+/-1/2 A=51 mirror nuclei Fe-51 and Mn-51 have been measured using the Cologne plunger device coupled to the GASP gamma-ray spectrometer. The deduced B(E2;27/2(-)-->23/2(-)) values afford a unique opportunity to probe isoscalar and isovector polarization charges and to derive effective proton and neutron charges, epsilon(p) and epsilon(n), in the fp shell. A comparison between the experimental results and several different large-scale shell-model calculations yields epsilon(p)similar to1.15e and epsilon(n)similar to0.80e.

Gamma-decay Lifetime Measurements in the Second Minimum of 58Cu
- 2001
-
Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 63:2

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- The individual lifetimes of three low-lying states in the proton-decaying well-deformed rotational band in the second minimum of the N = Z nucleus Cu-58 were determined. Doppler-shift attenuated gamma -ray lineshapes were analyzed following the fusion-evaporation reaction C-40,(Mg-24,1 alpha 1p1n)Cu-58 and using the EUROBALL gamma -ray spectrometer coupled to ancillary detector systems. The deduced transitional quadrupole moments confirm the predicted increase of deformation towards the bottom of the band. The gamma decay-out strength hints towards a nonstatistical pattern.

The Lifetime of the Proton-decaying 8915 keV State in 58Cu
- 2001

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- Energy correlations between gamma -ray transitions and the prompt proton decay line in Cu-58 were studied by means of the fusion-evaporation reaction Ca-40(Mg-24,1 alpha 1p1n) using the EUROBALL spectrometer coupled to ancillary detector devices. A lifetime of 0.06 < tau < 0.58 ps for the 8915 keV proton-decaying state in Cu-58 is deduced. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
