  • The Palaeoproterozoic Malmbäck Formation in S Sweden: age, composition and tectonic setting
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: GFF. - 1103-5897. ; 131, s. 229-243
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Paleoproterozoic Malmbäck Formation in southern Sweden comprises mafic to felsic volcanic rocks and syn-eruptive volcaniclastic and volcanogenic sedimentary deposits. Field observations indicate terrestrial to fluvial deposits – predominantly with massive to highly vesicular lavas, but also with ignimbrites, ashes, redeposited volcanic rocks and conglomerates. Three groups of volcanic rocks can be distinguished geochemically; (1) primitive basalts to basaltic andesites, (2) dacites-andesites and (3) rhyolites. The groups constitute a calc-alkaline to shoshonitic series. LILE and LREE enrichment, combined with depletion in HREE and HFSE; particulary in Nb (and Ta), is characteristic of typical arc rocks. Discriminant diagrams suggest emplacement along a one-time active continental margin, which is now marked by the Transscandinavian Igneous Belt (TIB), a more than one thousand kilometres long array of ~1.85-1.65 Ga granitic to gabbroic plutonic rocks and associated volcanic rocks. In the TIB, the Malmbäck Formation forms mega-xenoliths and other inclusions. U-Pb SIMS dating of zircon from a rhyolite of the Malmbäck Formation yielded a Concordia age of 1796±7 Ma, which is interpreted as the crystallization age of the rhyolite and the age of deposition of the Malmbäck Formation, during a relatively early part of the formation period of the TIB. Altogether, the setting, composition and age of the Malmbäck Formation and TIB confirm the existence of an Andean type active continental margin in the present southern part of the TIB at c. 1.8 Ga.

  • Liquid phase sintering of W-Ni-Fe composites : liquid penetration, agglomerate separation and tungsten particle growth
  • 2006
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The initial stage of liquid phase sintering, involving liquid penetration, agglomerate separation, particle spreading and growth has been investigated in experiments using tungsten heavy alloys. The particle composites used were produced by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) of pure powder mixtures of W-Ni-Fe-(Co). By using different HIP temperatures, volume fractions of tungsten, alloying elements like Cobalt and Sulphur or excluding Iron from the matrix, liquid penetration, agglomerate separation and particle growth conditions were affected. The investigations were performed mainly under microgravity (sounding rockets or parabolic trajectories by airplanes) but at high tungsten particle fractions, short sintering times or at infiltration of solid pure tungsten, they were performed at normal gravity. The liquid penetration of the tungsten agglomerates is explained by initial wetting under non-equilibrium conditions, due to the reaction between the liquid matrix and the particles, and a decrease of interfacial energy. The dissolving of tungsten gives a pressure drop in the penetrating liquid and a driving force for the liquid movement by a suggested parabolic penetration model. For cold worked tungsten, a penetration theory was proposed, where an internal stress release in the penetrated tungsten grains creates space for the advancing liquid. The spreading of the tungsten agglomerates is explained by an interagglomerate melt swelling due to a Kirkendall effect. The liquid matrix undergoes a volume increase since the diffusion rates of Ni-Fe are higher than for W and initial concentration gradients of W and Ni, Fe exists. The suggested model by Kirkendall are also used for an analysis of the interaction behaviour between solid particles and a solidification front and inclusion behaviour in iron base alloys during teeming and deoxidation. The average tungsten particles size decrease initially since part of the tungsten particles is dissolved when the non-equilibrium matrix phase is melting. When equilibrium is reached, the tungsten particles grow in accordance with the Ostwald ripening process by an approximately 1/3 power law. Larger particle fraction of particles showed a higher growth rate, due to shorter diffusion distances between the particles. Cobalt, Sulphur and absence of iron in the matrix were found to increase the growth rate of the tungsten particles due to a higher surface tension between the solid tungsten particles and the matrix melt.

  • MIMS - Multi Integrated Management Systems for Quality, Environment and Systematic Work Environment : A General management system, based on large Swedish companies
  • 2009
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This thesis describes mature Multi Integrated Management System (MIMS), mainly within Swedish companies, certified against three or more certificates. Other criteria have been to have a business system, usually SAP R/3 and that the companies investigated have had more than 200 employees. The two main reasons to implement have been customer demands and company Group requirements. The most common standards, besides ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and AFS 2001:1/OHSAS 18001 (9K, 14K and 18K) are EMAS, FSC (wood, paper standard), PEFC (wood) with two cases. The following similarities describes the “Core in MIMS”, i.e. similarities between different standards. The most important parts are to have a policy, a manual and review. Policy Statement – 4.2 (14K and 18K) 5.3 (9K) Objectives - 4.3.3 (14K and 18K) 5.4.1 (9K) Resources, Roles, Responsibility and Authority – 4.4.1 (14K and 18K) 5.5.1 and 6.1 (9K) Documentation - 4.4.4 (14K and 18K) 4.2.1 (9K) Control of Documents – 4.4.5 (14K and 18K) 4.2.3 (9K) Control of Records – 4.5.3 (18K) 4.5.4 (14K) 4.2.4 (9K) Competence; Training and Awareness – 4.4.2 (14K) 6.2.2 (9K) Internal Audit – 4.5.4 (18K) 4.5.5 (14K) 8.2.2 (9K) Management Review – 4.6 (14K and 18K) 5.6 (9K) The most common approaches are that the Graphical User Interface is based on a “Manual” or the “Deming Wheel”, but there are also other examples. A general management system is described and there are examples of content in a manual. In 2007 focus seems to be on audits and implementation of new standards (mainly systematic work environment) and SOX is mentioned for the first time. In academic literature successful examples of integration of management systems, with Lean production are described. ISO 9001:2008 is now available, but there is not that dramatic changes from previous version, and all changes make the standard easier to integrate with other standards than ISO 9001:2000.

  • Transition Prediction and Impact on 3D High-Lift Wing Configuration
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: A collection of technical papers. - : American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. - 9781563478987 ; , s. 1593-1613
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The evolution of maximum lift coefficient of a transport aircraft as a function of Reynolds number can be linked to modifications of the laminar-turbulent transition process. In the framework of European project EUROLIFT (I), a task was dedicated to the physical understanding and the numerical modeling of the transition process in high-lift configurations. Then, in the follow-on project EUROLIFT II, a major step is the integration of transition prediction tools within Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) solvers in order to estimate the impact of transition on performance. This paper presents an overview of the different activities dealing with transition in the EUROLIFT II project.

  • Evaluation of phenoxymethylpenicillin treatment of acute otitis media in children aged 2-16
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Primary Health Care. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0281-3432 .- 1502-7724. ; 25:3, s. 166-171
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective. To study the clinical recovery from acute otitis media (AOM) in children, 2-16 years of age, managed with or without treatment with phenoxymethylpenicillin (PcV).Design. An open, prospective randomized trial. Children aged between 2 and 16 years, presenting with one- or double-sided AOM (without perforation) with symptom duration of less than four days, were included. The children were randomized to PcV for five days or to no primary antibiotic treatment. A health score and compliance were registered on a daily basis for seven days. Setting. A total of 32 health centres and 72 GPs in south-east Sweden.Subjects. Children aged 2-16 presenting with earache. Main outcome measures. Recovery time, symptom duration, frequency of complications (up to three months) and consumption of healthcare services independent of treatment with or without antibiotics.Results. A total of 179 patients carried out the trial, 92 were randomized to PcV, 87 to no primary antibiotic treatment. The median recovery time was four days in both groups. Patients who received PcV had less pain (p <0.001) and used fewer analgesics. There were no significant differences in the number of middle-ear effusions or perforations at the final control after three months. Children randomized to PcV treatment consulted less (p <0.001) during the first seven days.Conclusions. Our investigation supports that PcV treatment of AOM does not affect the recovery time or complication rates. PcV provided some symptomatic benefit in the treatment of AOM in otherwise healthy children, aged 2-16 years.

  • Large-scale occurrence patterns of red-listed lichens and fungi on old oaks are influenced both by current and historical habitat density
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Biodiversity and Conservation. - : Springer. - 0960-3115 .- 1572-9710. ; 17:10 / September, 2008
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Current occurrence patterns of species associated with ancient trees may reflect higher historical habitat densities, because the dynamics of the habitat and the colonisation-extinction processes for many inhabiting species are expected to be slow. We tested this hypothesis in southeast Sweden by analysing species occurrence per parish for twelve redlisted lichen species and nine redlisted fungus species in relation with current density of big oaks, the density of oaks in the 1830s and connectivity with parishes with the species present. For most species, the occurrence was positively related with current density of habitat (for 18 species out of 21) and parish area (for 16 species). Historical habitat density was positively related with occurrence for 11 species, while connectivity with current occurrences in the surroundings was positive for the occurrence of 12 species and negative for the occurrence of two. For lichen species the connectivity measure that best explained the variation was at a larger spatial scale as compared to fungus species. Even if the density of old oaks remains in the future, inhabiting species will most likely decline because their distribution patterns are not in equilibrium with the current habitat density. Therefore, to allow long-term persistence of inhabiting species the number of old oaks should be increased. Areas where such an increase is most urgent could be identified based on species occurrence data and current habitat density, but because species data will always be incomplete data on the historical habitat distribution is valuable.
