  • What does rehabilitation and nursing care implies for patients with stroke? : Vad innebär rehabilitering och sjuksköterskans omvårdnad för patienter vid stroke?

    • ABSTRACT Previous research and literature related to nursing roll in stroke rehabilitation stresses that the nurses have a central roll in the rehabilitation process. This central roll implies that the nurse throw education, guidance and emotional support can facilitate that the patients recognise their ability to perform self-care activities. The aim of this interview study was to explore what rehabilitation and nursing care implies for patients with stroke. Data was obtained from eleven patients at two stroke rehabilitation wards, analyzed with content analyze. The result shows that the patients experienced a possibility for an independent life, and that nurse´s mode of care as diffuse. They asked for more of personal dialog with the nurse. It is important that nurses change their manner, becomes more distinctive in their mode of care if nurses rehabilitative function are going to be fulfilled. Key words: nursing, rehabilitation, stroke, patient experience

  • Differential inhibition of high and low Mr thioredoxin reductases of parasites by organotelluriums supports the concept that low Mr thioredoxin reductases are good drug targets
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Parasitology. - 0031-1820 .- 1469-8161. ; 136:1, s. 27-33
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Thioredoxin reductase (TrxR), a NADPH-dependent disulfide oxidoreductase, is vital in numerous cellular processes including defence against reactive oxygen species, cell proliferation and signal transduction. TrxRs occur in 2 forms, a high M-r enzyme characterized by those of mammals, the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum and some worms, and a low M-r form is present in bacteria, fungi, plants and some protozoan parasites. Our hypothesis is that the differences between the forms can be exploited in the development of selective inhibitors. In this study, cyclodextrin- and sulfonic acid-derived organotelluriums known to inhibit mammalian TrxR were investigated for their relative efficacy against P. falciparum TrxR (PfTrxR), a high M-r enzyme, and Trichomonas vaginalis TrxR (TvTrxR), a low M-r form of TrxR. The results suggest that selective inhibition of low M-r TrxRs is a feasible goal.

  • Iridium-Catalyzed Asymmetric Hydrogenation yielding Chiral Diarylmethines with Weakly Coordinating or Noncoordinating Substituents
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Journal of the American Chemical Society. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 0002-7863 .- 1520-5126. ; 131:25, s. 8855-8860
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Diarylimethine-containing stereocenters are present in pharmaceuticals   and natural products, making the synthetic methods that form these   chiral centers are important in industry. We have applied iridium   complexes with novel N,P-chelating ligands to the asymmetric  hydrogenation of trisubstituted olefins, forming diarylmethine chiral   centers in high conversions and excellent enantioselectivities (up to   99% ee) for a broad range of substrates. Our results support the hypothesis that steric hindrance in one specific area of the catalyst   is playing a key role in stereoselection, as the hydrogenation of   substrates differing little at the prochiral carbon occurred with high enantioselectivity. As a result, excellent stereodiscrimination was obtained even when the prochiral carbon bore, for example, phenyl and p-tolyl groups.
