  • Groupware for case management and inter-organizational collaboration : the virtual rehabilitation team
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics, Volume 84: MEDINFO 2001. - 9781586031947 ; , s. 3-7
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents LINDA, a prototype system designed to support virtual rehabilitation teams. LINDA enables professionals from different welfare-state agencies to collaborate in case management. Our approach to supporting teamwork involves the sharing of minimal case sets across organizational borders needed to provide a shared situation assessment among team members. The system provides a shared workspace for the team; a lightweight client-database, visualization of case histories and plans, and means to communicate effectively in the team using yellow sticker-notes. We present LINDA and discuss how we approached the problem to design groupware to support work under changing and uncertain conditions.

  • Increased retinoid signaling in vascular smooth muscle cells by proinflammatory cytokines
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications - BBRC. - : Elsevier BV. - 0006-291X .- 1090-2104. ; 286:2, s. 336-342

    • Retinoids have been shown to modulate inflammation and the immune response in many cell types including macrophages, endothelial cells, and vascular smooth muscle cells. However, present knowledge of whether inflammatory mediators modulate vitamin A status in these cells is limited. To identify the role of inflammation on retinoid metabolism in vascular smooth muscle cells, the cells were exposed to a combination of proinflammatory cytokines: interleukin-1beta, interferon-gamma, and lipopolysaccharides. Without stimulation with proinflammatory cytokines, vascular smooth muscle cells expressed retinol dehydrogenases-2 and 5 mRNA detected by RT-PCR. Stimulation with the combination of cytokines induced a substantial increase of retinol dehydrogenase-5 mRNA. This was associated with increased production of ligands for retinoic acid receptors, when assayed in a retinoic acid receptor-dependent luciferase reporter system. Our results demonstrate that inflammatory mediators activate the retinoid metabolic pathway in vascular smooth muscle cells, which potentially may modulate the inflammatory response in the vascular wall.

  • Tetrameric thienylcopper and pentanuclear thienylcuprate
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Journal of Organometallic Chemistry. - 0022-328X. ; 595:1, s. 102-108
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The reaction between 2-bromothiophene and magnesium with subsequent addition of copper(I) chloride in tetrahydrofuran followed by dioxane yields thienylcopper, [Cu-4(C4H3S)(4)] (1). Without the addition of dioxane, magnesium thienylcuprate(I), [Mg(THF)(6)][Cu-5(C4H3S)(6)](2), (2) is formed. Both copper(I) complexes are oligomeric and are bridged by the thienyl ligands solely through carbon donors, thus lacking Cu-S bonds. The former compound, 1, is tetranuclear with a square-planar copper core and Cu-Cu distances of 2.453(3) and 2.507(3) Angstrom, and 2.464(2) and 2.489(2) Angstrom within the two crystallographically independent molecules, respectively; there is a weak (CuS)-S-... interaction of 3.118(5) Angstrom between these two molecules. The anion of 2 is a closo trigonal bipyramidal cluster of copper atoms in which the (ax)-(eq) edges are bridged by the thienyl ligands. Thus the Cu(ax)-Cu(eq) distances bridged by carbon are short, 2.497(5) and 2.503(5) Angstrom, indicative of three-centre Cu-C-Cu two-electron bonds, whereas the Cu(eq)Cu-...(eq) and Cu(ax)Cu-...(ax) distances are considerably longer at 3.135(7) and 3.423(8) Angstrom, respectively. The lack of participation of sulfur in bonding within the [Cu-5(C4H3S)(6)](-) cluster is discussed.
