  • Cold New Early Dark Energy pulls the trigger on the H 0 and S 8 tensions: a simultaneous solution to both tensions without new ingredients
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics. - : IOP Publishing. - 1475-7516. ; 2023:11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this work, we show that the Cold New Early Dark Energy (Cold NEDE) model in its original form can solve both the Hubble tension and the S 8 tension without adding any new ingredients at the fundamental level. So far, it was assumed that the trigger field in the Cold NEDE model is completely subdominant. However, relaxing this assumption and letting the trigger field contribute a mere 0.5% of the total energy density leads to a resolution of the S 8 tension while simultaneously improving it as a solution to the H 0 tension. Fitting this model to baryonic acoustic oscillations, large-scale-structure, supernovae (including a SH0ES prior), and cosmic microwave background data, we report a preferred NEDE fraction of f NEDE = 0.134+0.032-0.025 (68% C.L.), lifting its Gaussian evidence for the first time above 5σ (up from 4σ when the trigger contribution to dark matter is negligible). At the same time, we find the new concordance values H 0 = 71.71 ± 0.88 km sec-1 Mpc-1 and S 8 = 0.793 ± 0.018. Excluding large-scale structure data and the SH0ES prior, both Gaussian tensions are reduced below the 2σ level.

  • Measurement of inelastic, single- and double-diffraction cross sections in proton-proton collisions at the LHC with ALICE
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044. ; 73:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Measurements of cross sections of inelastic and diffractive processes in proton-proton collisions at LHC energies were carried out with the ALICE detector. The fractions of diffractive processes in inelastic collisions were determined from a study of gaps in charged particle pseudorapidity distributions: for single diffraction (diffractive mass M-X < 200 GeV/c(2)) sigma(SD)/sigma(INEL) = 0.21 +/- 0.03, 0.20(-0.08)(+0.07,) and 0.20(-0.07)(+0.04), respectively at centre-of-mass energies root s = 0.9, 2.76, and 7 TeV; for double diffraction (for a pseudorapidity gap Delta eta > 3) sigma(DD)/sigma(INEL) = 0.11 +/- 0.03, 0.12 +/- 0.05, and 0.12(-0.04)(+0.05), respectively at root s = 0.9, 2.76, and 7 TeV. To measure the inelastic cross section, beam properties were determined with van der Meer scans, and, using a simulation of diffraction adjusted to data, the following values were obtained: sigma(INEL) = 62.8(-4.0)(+2.4)(model) +/- 1.2(lumi) mb at root s = 2.76 TeV and 73.2(-4.6)(+2.0)(model) +/- 2.6(lumi) mb at root s = 7 TeV. The single- and double-diffractive cross sections were calculated combining relative rates of diffraction with inelastic cross sections. The results are compared to previous measurements at proton-antiproton and proton-proton colliders at lower energies, to measurements by other experiments at the LHC, and to theoretical models.

  • Transverse sphericity of primary charged particles in minimum bias proton-proton collisions at root s=0.9, 2.76 and 7 TeV
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044. ; 72:9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Measurements of the sphericity of primary charged particles in minimum bias proton-proton collisions at root s = 0.9, 2.76 and 7 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC are presented. The observable is measured in the plane perpendicular to the beam direction using primary charged tracks with p(T) > 0.5 GeV/c in vertical bar eta vertical bar < 0.8. The mean sphericity as a function of the charged particle multiplicity at mid-rapidity (N-ch) is reported for events with different p(T) scales ("soft" and "hard") defined by the transverse momentum of the leading particle. In addition, the mean charged particle transverse momentum versus multiplicity is presented for the different event classes, and the sphericity distributions in bins of multiplicity are presented. The data are compared with calculations of standard Monte Carlo event generators. The transverse sphericity is found to grow with multiplicity at all collision energies, with a steeper rise at low N-ch, whereas the event generators show an opposite tendency. The combined study of the sphericity and the mean p(T) with multiplicity indicates that most of the tested event generators produce events with higher multiplicity by generating more back-to-back jets resulting in decreased sphericity (and isotropy). The PYTHIA6 generator with tune PERUGIA-2011 exhibits a noticeable improvement in describing the data, compared to the other tested generators.

  • Varför slösas det samtidigt som det sparas? : En studie om budgetproblematik i kommunal verksamhet
  • 2006

  • Light vector meson production in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV ALICE Collaboration
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters. Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693. ; 710:4-5, s. 557-568
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The ALICE experiment has measured low-mass dimuon production in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV in the dimuon rapidity region 2.5 < y < 4. The observed dimuon mass spectrum is described as a superposition of resonance decays (eta, rho, omega, eta', phi) into muons and semi-leptonic decays of charmed mesons. The measured production cross sections for omega and phi are sigma(omega)(1 < p(t) < 5 GeV/c. 2.5 < y < 4) = 5.28 +/- 0.54(stat) +/- 0.49(syst) mb and sigma(phi)(1 < p(t) < 5 GeV/c. 2.5 < y < 4) = 0.940 +/- 0.084(stat) +/- 0.076(syst) mb. The differential cross sections d(2)sigma/dy dp(t) are extracted as a function of p(t) for omega and phi. The ratio between the rho and omega cross section is obtained. Results for the phi are compared with other measurements at the same energy and with predictions by models. (C) 2012 CERN. Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Patterns of disruption: diagnosing response mechanisms in actor networks
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: ServDes.2020 Tensions, Paradoxes + Plurality Proceedings of the ServDes.2020 Conference. - Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Service and the contexts in which they occur are undergoing rapid. Failures associated with service also happen in increasingly complex, networked contexts. Such network configurations and exchange relationships are crucial mediators of value cocreation. Therefore, it is important to understand patterns of disruptions in service, and how actors influence possible failures through their participation, as it will impact value creation. This paper reports the results of an interview study conducted using a modified critical incident technique supported by design-driven generative tools. We identify eight patterns of disruption: request, query, hiccup, delay, mistake, flaw, breakdown and the unexpected. The paper also contributes a disruption ripple model, and identifies five tensions in responding to disruptions: competing priorities, dealing with difficult others, mismatching expectations, shouldering responsibility and reluctant assistance. The patterns of disruption provide a more nuanced way of understanding deviating incidents in service situations. The suggested ripple model allows conceptual exploration of focal service providing actor’s network activation when faced with disruptive situations. The identified tensions illustrate the underlying complexities in network relationships and how these tensions might affect the overall response to incidents. We argue that service providing organisations need to address the development of relationships to support beneficial value outcomes. This paper also methodologically contributes with a modified Critical Incident Technique augmented with a generative actor mapping activity.

  • Fengycin interaction with lipid monolayers at the air-aqueous interface - implications for the effect of fengycin on biological membranes
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Journal of Colloid and Interface Science. - : Elsevier BV. - 1095-7103 .- 0021-9797. ; 283:2, s. 358-365
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this study, we investigated the interaction of fengycin, a lipopeptide produced by Bacillus subtilis, with lipid monolayers using the Langmuir trough technique in combination with Brewster angle rnicroscopy. Thermodynamic analyses were performed to get further information about the mixing behavior and the molecular interactions between the two components. The effect of fengycin on the structural and morphological characteristics of DPPC monolayers, as a simple model of biological membranes, depends on the fengycin molar ratio. With a small proportion of fengycin (X-f less than or equal to 0.1), the compressibility of the monolayer is modified but the morphological characteristics of the DPPC are not significantly affected. At an intermediate molar ratio (0.1 < X-f less than or equal to 0.5), fengycin has a fluidizing effect on the DPPC monolayer by interacting partially with DPPC molecules. At higher molar ratio (X-f = 0.66), fengycin totally dissolves the ordered phase of the lipid. These results highlight the capacity of fengycin to perturb the DPPC organization and are discussed in relation to fengycin capacity to affect biological membranes. (C) 2004 Elsevier Inc.
