  • Vad bestämmer svenskarnas attityder till skatter?
  • 2019
  • In: Ekonomisk Debatt. - : Nationalekonomiska Föreningen. - 0345-2646. ; 47:4, s. 70-79
  • Journal article (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • Work in voluntary welfare organizations : A sociological study of voluntary welfare organizations in Sweden
  • 2004
  • Doctoral thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Since Sweden has one of the most comprehensive welfare states, the role of voluntary organizations active in the field of welfare is often neglected. The unique Swedish nonprofit sector is characterized by 1) the tradition of popular mass movements in which members are central and the real owners of the organization, 2) large membership and volunteering, but low employment levels, 3) dominance in the fields of culture and recreation, but the relative marginalization in welfare. This Ph.D. dissertation empirically studies work and the perception of work in voluntary welfare organizations (VWOs) in Sweden. I completed a series of 38 interviews of employees and volunteers in four VWOs: 1) a children’s rights organization; 2) a women’s center; 3) a volunteer bureau; and 4) a humanitarian organization. A quantitative survey of some 200 VWOs supplements the qualitative data. Looking at the internal work setting and interactions between workers one realizes that work in VWOs is influenced not only by the popular mass movements (folkrörelser), which are the foundation model of all Swedish voluntary organizations, but also by paradigms emerging out of the public and for-profit sectors: 1) the public paradigm permanently shapes voluntary welfare organizations through the action of paid workers who often have public sector work experience; and 2) work in voluntary organizations is partly integrated into the regular labor market, and interfaces emerge between volunteering and professional life (for-profit paradigm). The private sphere also interferes with volunteering. Finally, this sheds a new light on the claims of VWOs that they are autonomous, “free” entities, and their contribution to social integration and strengthening of social ties.

  • An imidazolium ionic liquid as effective structure-directing agent for the fabrication of silica thin films with vertically aligned nanochannels
  • 2020
  • In: Microporous and Mesoporous Materials. - : Elsevier BV. - 1387-1811. ; In Press
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In parallel to the increasing variety of ionic liquids that show different kinds of nanometer-scale structuration in their pure and solved forms, there is a raising interest in exploring the possibility of using ionic liquids as soft-templates for the synthesis of mesoporous materials. We report the case of 1-hexadecyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (C16MIMCl), a surface active ionic liquid (SAIL), here used as an excellent soft-template for the formation of vertically aligned, uniform mesochannels, with a well defined pore width of 2.5 nm in silica thin films deposited with the electrochemically assisted self-assembly (EASA) method. The obtained mesochannels run through the entire thickness of the films and after removal of the ionic liquid the emptied mesochannels ensure a thorough mass transport to the substrate, here monitored by the redox-active electrochemical probe Ru(II)/Ru(III) during cyclic voltammetry (CV). Moreover, the mechanism of pore formation is explained; unlike the mechanisms reported for short chain imidazolium ionic liquid silica templates, in the case of C16MIMCl the dominating so-called cooperative interaction is the electrostatic attraction between the C16MIM+ and the network-forming negatively charged silicate oligomers. Therefore, this study provides a better understanding of the templating behavior of long chain imidazolium ionic liquids and motivates further research on the synthesis of ionic liquid-based functional hybrid materials.
