  • Utrymningsförsök i Götatunneln
  • 2007
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • An evacuation experiment was performed in the Göta tunnel on November 22, 2006 in Göteborg, Sweden. In total twenty-nine participants who were not informed about the experimental conditions evacuated as they were forced to stop in the tunnel due to a simulated car accident where a fire had started. After two and a half minute after the first car stopped an evacuation alarm started but at that time several of the participants had already initiated their evacuation. Green flashing lights were found to be significant for some of the participant’s decision to evacuate and choose an evacuation route. Results also suggest that people were influenced by others during evacuation, i.e., that social influence was important. Social influence was important both for the decision to evacuate and the choice of exit.

  • Funktionsbaserad design för tunnlar med avseende på säkerhet - Förstudie
  • 2009
  • Rapport (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A pre-study of performance based design with regard to fire safety in tunnels is presented. It includes an analysis of the status of numerous countries concerning fire safety design and users perceived safety of tunnels. The users aspects as well as the design are important factors to be considered in the study. The study give an overview of different types of standards and a proposal for new research projects in order to establish a new Swedish road tunnel standard. The study was initiated by the Swedish Road Administration. The aim was to examine the possibilities to develop a more performance based design with regard to safety for tunnels. The focus should be on users and the necessary functional requirements in order to meet a target standards. Prior to fulfil this goal a feasibility study that compiles knowledge current situation is needed.

  • Coloured Flashing Lights to Mark Emergency Exits - Experiences from Evacuation Experiments
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: [Host publication title missing]. - 1817-4299. ; , s. 569-579
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Three evacuation experiments were performed to investigate how emergency exits should be designed. In the first two experiments coloured flashing lights and strobe lights at emergency exits were tested and compared to a standard emergency exit design. In the third experiment green, blue, orange and red lights were compared to determine which colour was the most appropriate for use in emergencies. Results of the studies show that flashing lights and strobe lights, compared to the standard emergency exit design, increase the use of emergency exits. Furthermore, it is recommended that green lights should be used at emergency exits.
