  • Yrast states and band crossings in the neutron-deficient platinum isotopes Pt169-173
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 74:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The yrast states in the light platinum isotopes Pt169-173 have been investigated in a recoil-decay tagging experiment using the JUROGAM gamma-ray spectrometer in conjunction with the RITU gas-filled recoil separator and the GREAT tagging spectrometer. Gamma-ray transitions have been established for the first time in the odd-N isotopes, Pt-169 and Pt-173, and the yrast sequences in Pt-170 and Pt-172 have been extended. We discuss the possibility that the weakly deformed yrast structures of Pt-170, Pt-172, and Pt-173 are crossed by a deformed intruder configuration at spin similar to 8h.

  • Lifetime measurements and coulomb excitation of light Hg nuclei
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Capture Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy and Related Topics. - : American Institute of Physics (AIP). - 9780735406230 ; , s. 414-418
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Two complementary experimental programs have taken place to investigate the origin and evolution of shape coexistence in the light mercury region. Recoil Distance Doppler-shift measurements were performed at the University of Jyväskylä utilizing the Köln plunger device in conjunction with the JUROGAM + RITU + GREAT setup. In addition, Coulomb excitation measurements of 184,186,188Hg were performed at REX-ISOLDE using the MINIBALL Ge-detector array. The results of the lifetime measurements of the yrast states up to Iπ = 10+ in 182Hg are reported. Preliminary analysis of the Coulomb excitation data is also discussed.

  • THE NORTHWEST FRONTIER : SPECTROSCOPY OF N similar to Z NUCLEI BELOW MASS 100
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Acta Physica Polonica B. - 0587-4254 .- 1509-5770. ; 40:3, s. 611-620
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The spectroscopy and structure of excited states of N similar to Z nuclei in the mass 70-100 region has been investigated using two techniques. In the A similar to 70-80 region fusion evaporation reactions coupled with the recoil-beta-tagging method have been employed at Jyvaskyla to study low-lying states in odd-odd N = Z nuclei. Results from these and other data for known odd-odd nuclei above mass 60 will be discussed. In the heavier mass 90 region a fragmentation experiment has been performed using the RIS-ING/FRS setup at GSI. This experiment was primarily aimed at searching for spin gap isomers in nuclei around A similar to 96. The objectives of the latter experiment will be discussed.

  • Does job strain mediate the effect of Socio-economic Group on smoking behaviour? The impact of different health policies in Denmark and Sweden
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health. - : SAGE Publications. - 1651-1905 .- 1403-4948. ; 36:6, s. 598-606
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aims: The aim was to compare the impact of socioeconomic groups (SEG) on the risk of being a daily smoker or quitter, and to investigate whether the potentially mediating effect of psychosocial working conditions was similar in the Danish and the Swedish populations. Methods: The study populations consisted of 10,049 employed participants, aged 18-64 years, 51% women, randomly selected from the general populations in the Oresund region, 1999-2000. Odds ratios (OR) for daily-smokers and "non-quitters'' were computed for two age-groups and two SEGs in gender specific models, stratified by country. The association between SEG, current smoking, quitting, and influence at work, job demand and jobstrain, respectively, was tested by means of logistic regression. Results: The contextual determinants defined by country had a different effect on smoking prevalence among men and women and among age groups. Low influence and job strain seemed to have an effect on smoking among Danish women, but not among Swedish women. The OR of being a daily smoker were higher in men than women among younger Danes, but higher in women than men among Swedes. The prevalence of low influence, high demand and job strain was higher and more socially skewed among the Swedes, but did not mediate the effect of SEG on smoking behaviour. Conclusions: The smoking prevalence was lower and the quit-rates higher among Swedes than Danes. Both countries had social differences in smoking that in absolute terms were rather similar, but in relative terms were higher in Sweden. The mediating effect of psychosocial working conditions was lacking. The determinants of smoking behaviours must be found somewhere else in the social and cultural context.

  • Radiation qualification of the front-end electronics for the readout of the ATLAS liquid argon calorimeters
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal of Instrumentation. - 1748-0221. ; 3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The ATLAS detector has been built to study the reactions produced by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). ATLAS includes a system of liquid argon calorimeters for energy measurements. The electronics for amplifying, shaping, sampling, pipelining, and digitizing the calorimeter signals is implemented on a set of front-end electronic boards. The front-end boards are installed in crates mounted between the calorimeters, where they will be subjected to significant levels of radiation during LHC operation. As a result, all components used on the front-end boards had to be subjected to an extensive set of radiation qualification tests. This paper describes radiation-tolerant designs, radiation testing, and radiation qualification of the front-end readout system for the ATLAS liquid argon calorimeters.

  • Attitudes about dental care among parents whose children suffer from severe congenital heart disease : a case-control study
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry. - 0960-7439 .- 1365-263X. ; 16:4, s. 231-238
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVES: To examine attitudes and experiences of parents whose children have complex congenital heart disease (CHD) with respect to dental health information and advice, dental care, and service and to compare the results with data from an age- and gender-matched control group without any medical problems. SETTING: Faculty of Medicine (Paediatric Cardiology and Paediatric Dentistry), Umea University, Umea, Sweden. SAMPLE AND METHOD: Each group comprised parents of 33 children; the children's mean age was 9.4 years. All the cases and the controls resided in the county of Vasterbotten, northern Sweden. Data were collected with a questionnaire with 20 joint questions to both groups and four additional questions to the CHD group. RESULTS: Of the 20 joint questions, significant differences were displayed in the following areas: the professional group that provided the parents with dental health information and advice (P < 0.01), attitudes to reception at the dental clinic, and experience of sedation before operative dental treatment (P < 0.05). Parents to 11 children with CHD who were patients at a specialist clinic for paediatric dentistry scored the reception at the dental clinic as excellent in nine cases and satisfactory in two, compared to excellent (3), satisfactory (11), decent (4), and poor (4) among those who were patients in general dental practice (P < 0.01). No statistically significant differences in educational level or in parental experience of dental health were noted between the two groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Children with CHD in northern Sweden mainly receive their dental health information from a physician or a dentist, and healthy children mainly receive information from a dental hygienist indicating that children with CHD are given priority in the dental care system. Parental attitudes to reception in the dental service differed, and parents of healthy children scored the reception at the dental clinic better than parents of children with CHD. It is suggested that children with severe CHD should receive dental care in clinics for paediatric dentistry, particularly at early ages.

  • Collectivity and configuration mixing in Pb186,188 and Po194
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 97:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Lifetimes of prolate intruder states in Pb186 and oblate intruder states in Po194 have been determined by employing, for the first time, the recoil-decay tagging technique in recoil distance Doppler-shift lifetime measurements. In addition, lifetime measurements of prolate states in Pb188 up to the 8+ state were carried out using the recoil-gating method. The B(E2) values have been deduced from which deformation parameters |β2|=0.29(5) and |β2|=0.17(3) for the prolate and the oblate bands, respectively, have been extracted. The results also shed new light on the mixing between different shapes.

  • Yrast structures in the light Pt isotopes Pt169-173
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics G. - : IOP Publishing. - 0954-3899 .- 1361-6471. ; 31:10, s. S1715-S1718
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The exploitation of the recoil-decay tagging (RDT) technique has reinvigorated experimental investigations of the shape coexistence phenomenon in heavy neutron-deficient nuclei. In a recent experiment using the JUROGAM and GREAT spectrometers in conjunction with the RITU gas-filled separator, excited states have been investigated in the light platinum isotopes. In addition to extending the yrast sequences in Pt-170 and Pt-172, the first observation of excited states in the odd-N isotopes, Pt-169 and Pt-173, is reported. The bands are discussed in terms of trends in level excitation energies as a function of neutron number.
