  • Linking discourse-level information and the induction of bilingual discourse connective lexicons
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Semantic Web. - 1570-0844 .- 2210-4968. ; 13:6, s. 1081-1102
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The single biggest obstacle in performing comprehensive cross-lingual discourse analysis is the scarcity of multilingual resources. The existing resources are overwhelmingly monolingual, compelling researchers to infer the discourse-level information in the target languages through error-prone automatic means. The current paper aims to provide a more direct insight into the cross-lingual variations in discourse structures by linking the annotated relations of the TED-Multilingual Discourse Bank, which consists of independently annotated six TED talks in seven different languages. It is shown that the linguistic labels over the relations annotated in the texts of these languages can be automatically linked with English with high accuracy, as verified against the relations of three diverse languages semi-automatically linked with relations over English texts. The resulting corpus has a great potential to reveal the divergences in local discourse relations, as well as leading to new resources, as exemplified by the induction of bilingual discourse connective lexicons.

  • Quality Standards for Family Support Programs : A New Proposal
  • 2020
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • One of the key goals of the European Family Support Network (Eurofamnet) is to develop and disseminate a quality standards document. This document aims at identifying the basic characteristics to develop, implement, test, and disseminate high-quality family support programs in the European context. The current presentation focuses on the process of development and key aspects of the proposed Eurofamnet Quality Standards Document. The development process of the Eurofamnet Quality Standards Document started with an extensive review of the published quality standards documents and the scientific publications focusing on preventive interventions for families and children. The review of these documents focused on identifying the proposed standards for and the characteristics of high-quality programs. A thematic analysis revealed the importance of four phases in conceptualizing standards for family support programs. These are (1) program formulation, (2) program delivery, (3) program evaluation, and (4) dissemination. The Eurofamnet Quality Standards Document proposes that the processes and the outcomes of these four phases of the intervention cycle are guided by five fundamental considerations. Actions that are taken and the outcomes of these actions in each of these four phases are (1) responsive, (2) feasible, (3) ethical, (4) reflective, and (5) sustainable.Overall, the Eurofamnet Quality Standards Document aims at setting up a set of guiding principles for practitioners and researchers who work with family support programs that are accessible and in line with the latest advances in research and praxis.

  • GREP : a Group REkeying Protocol Based on Member Join History
  • 2016. - 9
  • Ingår i: 2016 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC). - : IEEE. ; , s. 326-333
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents GREP, a highly scalable and efficient group rekeying protocol with the following merits. First, it rekeys the group with only two messages, introducing an overhead which is small, constant, and independent of the group size. Second, GREP considers collusion as a first-class attack. Third, GREP efficiently recovers the group from a collusion attack without recourse to a total member reinitialization. The recovery cost smoothly grows with the group size, and gradually increases with the attack severity. GREP achieves these results by organizing nodes into logical subgroups and exploiting the history of node joining events. This allows GREP to establish a total ordering among subgroups and among nodes in each subgroup, so making collusion recovery highly scalable and efficient. We evaluate performance from several standpoints, and show that GREP is deployable in large-scale networks of customary, even resource constrained, platforms.

  • Does changing spring phenology affect short and long distance migratory waterfowl similarly?
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: The abstract book. ; , s. 43-
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Among waterfowl, most ducks may be considered income breeders due to their small body size and their limited capacity to store energy. Therefore limited access to resources on their breeding grounds is likely to affect their breeding schedule and potentially output. At northern latitudes, ice break up dictates the access to the breeding lakes. An early ice break up allows for early access to the breeding site and its feeding resources, and potentially leading to higher breeding output than after a late ice break up. Short distance migrants are thus more likely to adapt to ice break up conditions than long distance migrants which have to cope with weather conditions en route and local resource accessibility along the migratory path. Using 20 years of data on breeding phenology and success of 3 species of ducks differing in their migratory strategy - Teal Anas crecca, Mallard Anas platyrhynchos and Common Goldeneye Bucephala clangula - in a watershed in Finland, we test the idea that variation in spring phenology affects the reproductive performance of duck species differently depending on their migration pattern.

  • Checklist of Terrestrial Parasitengona mites (Acariformes: Prostigmata) in Fennoscandia
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The knowledge on terrestrial Parasitengona in Fennoscandia lies far behind that of the aquatic counterpart, the water mites (Hydrachnidia). Based on new inventories we provide primary data and an annotated checklist of terrestrial Parasitengona in Fennoscandia including 105 species. Out of these, twenty species are new findings for the region and five are potential new species for science. Eighteen species are new for Norway, fifteen for Finland and eight for Sweden. The known recorded fauna today of terrestrial Parasitengona is 73 species for Norway, 47 for Sweden and 47 for Finland. Primary data include georeferenced locality data as well as collecting techniques and microhabitat to increase the knowledge on species' habitat requirements.

  • Axiom - DTLS-based secure IoT group communication
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: ACM Transactions on Embedded Computing Systems. - : ACM Press. - 1539-9087 .- 1558-3465. ; 16:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article presents Axiom, a DTLS-based approach to efficiently secure multicast group communication among IoT-constrained devices. Axiom provides an adaptation of the DTLS record layer, relies on key material commonly shared among the group members, and does not require one to perform any DTLS handshake. We made a proof-of-concept implementation of Axiom based on the tinyDTLS library for the Contiki OS and used it to experimentally evaluate performance of our approach on real IoT hardware. Results show that Axiom is affordable on resource-constrained platforms and performs significantly better than related alternative approaches.
