  • Direct Coupling of Plasmonic and Photonic Nanowires for Hybrid Nanophotonic Components and Circuits
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Nano letters (Print). - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1530-6984 .- 1530-6992. ; 9:12, s. 4515-4519
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report direct coupling of plasmonic and photonic nanowires using ultracompact near-field interaction. Photon-plasmon coupling efficiency up to 80% with coupling length down to the 200 nm level is achieved between individual Ag and ZnO nanowires. Hybrid nanophotonic components, including polarization splitters, Mach-Zehnder interferometers, and microring cavities, are fabricated out of coupled Ag and ZnO nanowires. These components offer relatively low loss with subwavelength confinement; a hybrid nanowire microcavity exhibits a Q-factor of 520.

  • A mild hydrophobic interaction chromatography involving polyethylene glycol immobilized to agarose media refolding recombinant Staphylococcus aureus elongation factor G
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Protein Expression and Purification. ; 40:2, s. 327-335
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recombinant Staphylococcus aureus elongation factor G (EF-G) is difficult to refold by dilution due to the formation of large amounts of misfolded structures. However, refolding of EF-G by adsorption to a chromatographic column packed with immobilized polyethylene glycol 20,000 (PEG 20 K) followed by pulse elution with 8 M urea resulted in 88% mass recovery and 80% of correctly refolded structure. The PEG 20 K was coupled to brominated allyl group derivatized Sepharose High Performance to construct a mild hydrophobic adsorbent. Various other hydrophobic interaction adsorbents were also attempted to refold EF-G. However, ligands with high hydrophobicity tended to misfold EF-G, resulting in irreversible adsorption. Various solvents, detergents, and low temperature as well as 8 M urea were tried to release bound EF-G. Only pulse elution with 8 M urea was efficient. Urea concentrations favorable for efficiently refolding EF-G were investigated. Low urea concentration produced more misfolded structures.

  • Immobilized Triton X-100-assisted refolding of Green Fluorescent Protein-Tobacco Etch Virus protease fusion protein using β-cyclodextrin as the eluent
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Process Biochemistry. - : Elsevier BV. - 1359-5113 .- 1873-3298. ; 44:3, s. 277-282
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A new protein refolding technique based on the use of the non-charged detergent Triton X-100 immobilized to the cross-linked agarose gel Sepharose High Performance has been developed. The new solid phase was used in combination with soluble β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) to refold recombinant Green Fluorescent Protein fused to Tobacco Etch Virus protease (GFPTEVP) expressed as inclusion bodies in E. coli. Previous attempts to refold recombinant GFPTEVP by dilution had failed. In the new procedure a column packed with Triton X-100-coupled Sepharose High Performance was used to capture unfolded GFPTEVP followed by elution using an increasing β-CD concentration gradient. The yield of properly refolded GFPTEVP was 46% at a protein concentration of 380 μg/ml. In contrast, dilution refolding of GFPTEVP at 200 μg/ml refolding buffer resulted in only 4.7% of native protein.

  • Mapping autism risk loci using genetic linkage and chromosomal rearrangements.
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Nature Genetics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1061-4036 .- 1546-1718. ; 39:3, s. 319-328
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are common, heritable neurodevelopmental conditions. The genetic architecture of ASDs is complex, requiring large samples to overcome heterogeneity. Here we broaden coverage and sample size relative to other studies of ASDs by using Affymetrix 10K SNP arrays and 1,168 families with at least two affected individuals, performing the largest linkage scan to date while also analyzing copy number variation in these families. Linkage and copy number variation analyses implicate chromosome 11p12-p13 and neurexins, respectively, among other candidate loci. Neurexins team with previously implicated neuroligins for glutamatergic synaptogenesis, highlighting glutamate-related genes as promising candidates for contributing to ASDs.

  • Guaranteed dominant pole placement with PID controllers
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Journal of Process Control. - : Elsevier BV. - 1873-2771 .- 0959-1524. ; 19:2, s. 349-352
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Pole placement is a well-established design method for linear control systems. Note however that with an output feedback controller of low-order such as the PID controller one cannot achieve arbitrary pole placement for a high-order or delay system, and then partially or hopefully, dominant pole placement becomes the only choice. To the best of the authors' knowledge, no method is available in the literature to guarantee dominance of the assigned poles in the above case. This paper proposes two simple and easy methods which can guarantee the dominance of the two assigned poles for PID control systems. They are based on root locus and Nyquist plot respectively. If a solution exists, the parametrization of all the solutions is explicitly given. Examples are provided for illustration. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
