  • Localised anti-branes in non-compact throats at zero and finite T
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; :2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigate the 3-form singularities that are typical to anti-brane solutions in supergravity and check whether they can be cloaked by a finite temperature horizon. For anti-D3-branes in the Klebanov-Strassler background, this was already shown numerically to be impossible when the branes are partially smeared. In this paper, we present analytic arguments that also localised branes remain with singular 3-form fluxes at both zero and finite temperature. These results may have important, possibly fatal, consequences for constructions of meta-stable de Sitter vacua through uplifting.

  • Note on M2-branes in opposite charge
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Physical Review D. - 1550-7998 .- 1550-2368. ; 89:6, s. 065004-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The flux singularity that arises for branes in oppositely charged fluxes is a widely discussed issue and in this paper the problem is investigated further. New AdS world volume (anti-)M2-brane solutions are constructed using space-filling branes placed in fluxes of opposite dissolved charge that is opposite to that of the brane. A topological obstruction is derived to show how the singularity develops during localization of this solution and any similarly constructed solution. Furthermore it is shown that it is not possible to hide the singularity behind a horizon, which would have given credence to an M theory resolution.

  • Multilingual Supervision of Semantic Annotation
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of COLING 2016, the 26th International Conference on Computational Linguistics: Technical Papers. - 9784879747020 ; , s. 1007-1017
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we investigate the annotation projection of semantic units in a practical setting. Previous approaches have focused on using parallel corpora for semantic transfer. We evaluate an alternative approach using loosely parallel corpora that does not require the corpora to be exact translations of each other. We developed a method that transfers semantic annotations from one language to another using sentences aligned by entities, and we extended it to include alignments by entity-like linguistic units. We conducted our experiments on a large scale using the English, Swedish, and French language editions of Wikipedia. Our results show that the annotationprojectionusingentitiesincombinationwithlooselyparallelcorporaprovidesaviable approach to extending previous attempts. In addition, it allows the generation of proposition banks upon which semantic parsers can be trained.

  • The new informatics revolution - not
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 31th Information Systems Research Seminar in Scandinavia, IRIS 31. - Åre.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Systems development seems to be taught in a very traditional way in the Swedish unversities. It is supposed that an inhouse development starting from scratch will be at hand. This is shown using an investigation of current books in the area, of contemporary educations in systems deveopment. But the needs from the business word are different and this is shown in an investigation of job advertisments in Sweden. The conclusion is that informatics as subject is at a deep crise: We educate students for a work that was at hand in the 80´s and not for the 21st century!

  • Film Noir and Weakly Intentional Actions : An Anscombian Analysis
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Philosophical Topics. - Arkansas : The University of Arkansas Press. - 0276-2080 .- 2154-154X. ; 44:1, s. 239-264
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Human agency is typically thought of as intentional, purposeful, reflective and, in many cases, autonomous. This paper discusses human agency that is compromised in some of these respects, and actions that are actions only in a qualified sense. The object of study is the agency of the leading character, Jeff, in the film noir Out of the Past, and Elizabeth Anscombe’s Intention is the primary source in analyzing Jeff’s behavior. Two excerpts from the film are presented and analyzed. The analysis of the first excerpt reveals agency that is merely weakly intentional; that is lacking in purposiveness and which displays ambivalence. Anscombe’s example of the man pumping water helps us see that Jeff’s actions are only intentional under some, basic, descriptions; that there is no intention of the action. Jeff does not really know his way about and his actions are not sufficiently grounded in reason. This, it is argued, is largely because he is not the author of his own actions: he is thrown into a situation set up by someone else. He enters in medias res and feels forced to act although he has limited knowledge of the meaning or purpose of the full action in which he partakes. In Anscombian vocabulary, he lacks the first person practical knowledge typical of intentional action. In the second episode, Jeff protects Kathy, the femme fatale, even when knowing that she has killed a man, stolen money, lied to Jeff and is trying to frame him for murder. It is argued, in dialogue with Anscombe and Stoutland, that this case may be understood in terms of a mental cause rather than as an intentional action: Jeff’s actions and neglect to act is motivated by his passion for Kathy, it blinds him from considering what is reasonable and right to do.

  • Making the Unconscious Conscious : A Reflection on the Concept Translation in Freud
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Teoria. - Pisa : EDIZIONI ETS. - 1122-1259. ; 40:2, s. 101-119
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In The Unconscious Freud uses the concept translation alongside transformation and replacement to describe the process in which dynamically unconscious mental content takes conscious form. This paper inquires into how translation should be understood in the psychoanalytic context and if translation can capture conscious-making. Intuitively there seems to be a problem: translation is typically used for translations from a language with an articulative structure to another while it is distinctive of the repressed unconscious that it is lacking in conceptual and logical structure. Can translation account both for the meaning that is there and what is lacking? In dialogue with contemporary psychoanalytic writers, philosophers in the Wittgensteinian tradition and Benjamin's The task of the translator the author presents a reading in which translation as used to describe the therapeutic work of making the unconscious conscious is understood not as as mediating meaning but as creation and development.
