  • Die in-vitro Perfusion der menschlichen Plazenta mit Eryhtrozyten und Xanthine Oxidase als in vitro Simulation von Praeeklampsie.
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Zeitschrift für Geburtshilfe und Neonatologie. - : Georg Thieme Verlag KG. - 0948-2393 .- 1439-1651. ; 213:3, s. 89-95
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Preeclampsia is a major obstetric problem of unknown etiology. The fact that removal of the placenta is the only cure for preeclampsia, has led to the well-established hypothesis, that the placenta is central in the etiology. Gene profiling and proteomics studies have suggested oxidative stress caused by reperfusion and free oxygen radicals as a potential pathophysiological mechanism in preeclampsia. In this study, the dual placental perfusion model was used in order to evaluate the damaging effects of oxidative stress induced by xanthine/xanthine oxides and free hemoglobin.MATERIAL AND METHODS: The dual placenta perfusion model is a well-established in vitro model for functional placental studies. Placentas were perfused with medium containing either xanthine/xanthine oxidase or erythrocytes as a source of free hemoglobin. Concentration of free hemoglobin in the medium was measured by means of ELISA. Whole genome microarray technique and bioinformatics were used to evaluate the gene expression profile in the two groups.RESULTS: Substantial levels of free adult hemoglobin were detected in the perfusions. A total of 58 genes showed altered gene expression, the most altered were hemoglobin alpha, beta and gamma, tissue factor pathway inhibitor 2 and superoxide dismutase 2. Bioinformatics revealed that biological processes related to oxidative stress, anti-apoptosis and iron ion binding were significantly altered.CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that perfusion with xanthine/xanthine oxidase and free hemoglobin induce changes in gene expression similar to what has been described for the preeclamptic placenta.

    • Work environment improvements and effects a literature review This report addresses the question 'Do work-environment improvements have any effects?' The aim was to produce a summary of knowledge that includes the methodological problems of measuring and evaluating effects, as well as literature reviews of effects from work environment improvement efforts on musculoskeletal health, health promotion, and economy. Results show that published literature reviews do not give unambiguous support for

  • Molecular rotation-vibration coupling by quantum wavepacket interference at potential energy curve crossings
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Chemical Physics Letters. - : Elsevier BV. - 0009-2614 .- 1873-4448. ; 412:4-6, s. 386-390
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Quantum wavepacket interference is shown to result in modulation of the ultrafast transient anisotropy of a diatomic molecule. The molecule is in a state comprising two bound electronic states at intermediate coupling strength and the anisotropy modulation enters via variations in the instantaneous contributions of the initial states to the total anisotropy. A necessary condition for the appearance of the modulation is that the involved rotational states possess different vibrational dynamics. The wavepacket interference mediates this coupling by imposing dynamical restrictions on the accessible vibrational phase space which depend on the rotational state.

  • Company-based determinants of training and the impact of training on company performance : Results from an international HRM survey
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Personnel review. - : Emerald. - 0048-3486 .- 1758-6933. ; 36:2, s. 311-331
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to use an international dataset to examine what determines employee training from an organisational perspective, and to what extent training investments enhance company performance. Design/methodology/approach - Data from 5,824 private-sector organisations are used to examine determinants of training and the connection between training and profitability. OLS regressions and Probit estimates are used in the statistical analyses. Findings - The results indicate that the provision of company training is largely determined by firm-specific factors, such as human resource management (HRM) practices. The results further show that two widely used measures of training - incidence and intensity - are largely determined by different factors. Staff turnover (mobility) does not appear to be a decisive factor in explaining the provision of training on a national or company level, although it is associated with lower profitability to some extent. However, the single most important factor associated with profitability is how much is invested in training (intensity), suggesting that the economic benefits of training outweigh the cost of staff turnover. Originality/value - This study contributes to the existing training literature by offering extensive access to internal measures of training, profitability, HRM practices, workforce characteristics and staff turnover for companies in 26 countries worldwide.
