  • Status of the ESS elliptical cryomodules at CEA saclay
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: IPAC 2017 - Proceedings of the 8th International Particle Accelerator Conference. - 9783954501823 ; , s. 945-947
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The first ESS prototype cryomodule with medium beta cavities named M-ECCTD is being assembled at CEA Saclay. The Q curves of the 4 cavities mounted inside the cryomodule are presented, and the four power couplers have been conditioned at high power before their assembly onto the cavity string. Completion of the M-ECCTD assembly outside clean room is in progress as well as the finalization of the RF power test stand preparation. RF power tests of the M-ECCTD will be performed during summer 2017. CEA is preparing the production of the ESS medium and high beta cryomodules of the series before the test of the M-ECCTD and the contracts for the procurement of the most critical components have already been signed.

  • Time-series and Phase-curve Photometry of the Episodically Active Asteroid (6478) Gault in a Quiescent State Using APO, GROWTH, P200, and ZTF
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal Letters. - : American Astronomical Society. - 2041-8205 .- 2041-8213. ; 911:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We observed the episodically active asteroid (6478) Gault in 2020 with multiple telescopes in Asia and North America and found that it is no longer active after its recent outbursts at the end of 2018 and the start of 2019. The inactivity during this apparition allowed us to measure the absolute magnitude of Gault of H ( r ) = 14.63 +/- 0.02, G ( r ) = 0.21 +/- 0.02 from our secular phase-curve observations. In addition, we were able to constrain Gault's rotation period using time-series photometric lightcurves taken over 17 hr on multiple days in 2020 August, September, and October. The photometric lightcurves have a repeating less than or similar to 0.05 mag feature suggesting that (6478) Gault has a rotation period of similar to 2.5 hr and may have a semispherical or top-like shape, much like the near-Earth asteroids Ryugu and Bennu. The rotation period of similar to 2.5 hr is near the expected critical rotation period for an asteroid with the physical properties of (6478) Gault, suggesting that its activity observed over multiple epochs is due to surface mass shedding from its fast rotation spin-up by the Yarkovsky-O'Keefe-Radzievskii-Paddack effect.

  • Nucleation and Growth of Magnetron-Sputtered Ag Nanoparticles as Witnessed by Time-Resolved Small Angle X-Ray Scattering
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Particle and Particle Systems Characterization. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0934-0866 .- 1521-4117.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Kinetic aspects of the synthesis of Ag nanoparticles (NPs) by magnetron sputtering are studied by in situ and time‐resolved small angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS). Part of the NPs are found to become confined within a capture zone at 1–10 mm from the surface of the target and circumscribed by the plasma ring. Three regimes of the NP growth are identified: 1) early growth at which the average NP diameter rapidly increases to 90 nm; 2) cycling instabilities at which the SAXS signal periodically fluctuates either due to expelling of large NPs from the capture zone or due to the axial rotation of the NP cloud; and 3) steady‐state synthesis at which stable synthesis of the NPs is achieved. The NP confinement within the capture zone is driven by the balance of forces, the electrostatic force being dominant. On reaching the critical size, large NPs acquire an excessive charge and become expelled from the capture zone via the electrostatic interactions. As a result, significant NP deposits are formed on the inner walls of the aggregation chamber as well as in the central area of the target.
