    • A highly integrated chipset comprising a transmitter (TX) and a receiver (RX) chip, based on a 250 nm InP DHBT technology for high data rate D-band (110-170 GHz) wireless communication is described. The chipset is designed for point-to-point wireless communication for 4G and 5G mobile communication infrastructure, high data rate backhaul, low-latency wireless HDTV transmission and >40 Gbps transmission over dielectric waveguide. The measured RX conversion gain is 26 dB, with a noise figure of 9 dB. The measured TX conversion gain is 20 dB. A maximum QPSK data rate of 44 Gbps is demonstrated, which exceeds the present state-of-the art in the D-band by a factor of 2.

    • A millimeter-wave radio test-bed is implemented which demonstrates 16QAM transmission over 70/80 GHz band for data rate up to 10 Gbps. Performance of the 16QAM transmitter and receiver is evaluated in a loop-back lab set-up. With the proposed 10 Gbps on single carrier system architecture, it is possible to achieve 40 Gbps over a 5 GHz bandwidth when combined with polarization and spatial multiplexing.

    • A 77-GHz lens antenna for automotive radar applications is presented. It consists of a feeder in the formof a 2 x 2 patch array etched from a single layer on a 100-mu m-thick substrate and a commercially available dielectric lens. Compared to previously published lens antennas, the presented design has the advantages of excellent electrical performance and a low profile in combination with a thin lens. Measurements of port impedance match and radiation patterns are presented. Beam tilt by lateral offset of the lens is demonstrated experimentally.

    • A proof of concept on-/off- keying (OOK) modulator is designed and implemented in a commercial heterojunction bipolar transistors IC process. The modulator circuit consists of an amplifier/latch structure, which is used as an OOK modulator for the first time. One of its advantages is that the topology may be implemented in both field effect transistor and bipolar technology. The measurement results correspond well with simulation and show that the modulator is capable of handling carrier frequencies up to 28 GHz, and data rates up to 14 Gbps. The isolation of the modulator in the off-state is better than 27 dB over the whole frequency range.

  • An arrangement and a method for carrier signal recovery

    • The present invention relates to a carrier recovery arrangement (100) for recovering an input modulated signal (R(t)), down- converted by a local oscillator with a frequency different from the carrier frequency of the input modulated signal (R(t)) such that a distorted down-converted signal (RQ(t)) is provided. It comprises a delay means (14) for introducing a time delay into the distorted signal (RQ (t)), a mixer (4) adapted to multiply the received distorted signal (RQ(t)) with the delayed distorted signal and to provide an adjusted output signal, (Radj(t)), with a distortion term, a low pass filter (5) adapted to extract a signal comprising the second harmonic of the distortion term from the adjusted output signal (R adj (t)) related to twice the frequency difference (2Δω) between the local oscillator and the carrier frequency of the input modulated signal (R(t)), and means for removing modulated data from said signal to provide a recovery signal free from modulated data that can be used to eliminate the distortion.
