  • A New us Isomer in 136Sb Produced in the Projectile Fission of 238U
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal A. Hadrons and Nuclei. - 1434-6001. ; 11, s. 9-13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The neutron-rich isotope Sb-136 has been produced following the relativistic projectile fission of U-238 in an experiment performed at the Fragment Separator at GSI, Darmstadt. Delayed gamma -ray spectroscopy of the fission products has been performed after isotope separation. A new isomeric state in Sb-136 has been populated, and its lifetime measured as T-1/2 = 565(50) ns. Realistic and empirical shell-model calculations have been performed and are compared to the experimental observables.

  • Pharmacokinetic profile of orexin A and effects on plasma insulin and glucagon in the rat
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Regulatory Peptides. - : Elsevier BV. - 0167-0115 .- 1873-1686. ; 119:3, s. 209-212
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Orexin A (OXA) is found in the central nervous system (CNS) and in the gut. Peripheral administration of OXA to rats results in an inhibition of fasting motility. Plasma OXA increases during fasting and central administration of OXA increases food intake. The aim of the present study was to assess the pharmacokinetic profile of OXA and the effect of intravenously (IV) administered OXA on plasma concentrations of insulin and glucagon concentrations. Rats were given OXA IV (100 pmol kg-1 min-1) for time periods of 0, 10, 20, 30 min and for 10, 20, 30 min after ceasing a 30-min infusion. After each time period, rats were then sacrificed and blood obtained. OXA was also administered at increasing doses (0, 100, 300 and 500 pmol kg-1 min-1) for 30 min and blood was obtained. Plasma OXA, insulin and glucagon levels were measured using commercially available radioimmunoassay (RIA) kits. The plasma half-life of OXA was 27.1±9.5 min. Stepwise increasing infusion rates of OXA confirmed a linear concentration-time curve and thus first-order kinetics. Its volume of distribution indicated no binding to peripheral tissues. Plasma glucagon decreased during infusion of OXA, while insulin was unaffected. Plasma OXA was raised fourfold after food intake. Thus, OXA has a longer plasma half-life than many other peptides found in the gut. This needs to be taken into account when assessing effects of OXA on biological parameters after peripheral administration.reserved.

  • A train traffic operation and planning simulator
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Computers in Railways VII. - : WITPress, Southampton. - 1853128260 ; , s. 241-248
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The objective of the project presented in this paper has been to develop a newsimulator system that can contribute to improved methods for train trafficplanning and operation and to create an experimental environment for developmentof new control support systems and operator user interfaces. The newsimulator system is based on a previously developed simulation kernel,SIMON/TTS, which has been used by the Swedish National Rail Administrationfor off line planning experiments. The SIMON/TTS system has now beenredesigned into an interactive, real-time simulator where external control andpresentation systems can be connected via a communication module. Thesimulator system will be used for different purposes. Some of the most importantexperimental scenarios are to perform experiment with new user interfaces fortrain traffic control operators, to test the usefulness of decision support systemsfor train dispatchers, to evaluate alternative strategies for solving conflicts intrain traffic control and to provide a simulator environment for education andtraining of train traffic operators.

  • The impact of optical and thermal properties on the performance of flat plate solar collectors
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Renewable Energy. - 0960-1481. ; 28:3, s. 331-344
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The impact of the optical properties on the annual performance of flat plate collectors in a Swedish climate has been estimated with the MINSUN program. The collector parameters were determined with a theoretically based calculation program verified from laboratory measurements. The importance of changes in solar absorptance and thermal emittance of the absorber, the addition of a teflon film or a teflon honeycomb, antireflection treatment of the, cover glazing and combinations of these improvements were investigated. The results show that several improvements can be achieved for solar thermal absorbers. A combined increase in absorptance from 0.95 to 0.97 and a decrease in emittance from 0.10 to 0.05 increase the annual performance with 6.7% at 50 degreesC operating temperature. The increase in performance by installing a teflon film as second glazing was estimated to 5.6% at 50 degreesC. If instead a teflon honeycomb is installed, a twice as high performance increase is obtained, 12.1 %. Antireflection treatment of the cover glazing increases the annual output with 6.5% at 50 degreesC. A combination of absorber improvements together with a teflon honeycomb and an antireflection treated glazing results in a total increase of 24.6% at 50 degreesC. Including external booster reflectors increases the expected annual output at 50 degreesC to 19.9-29.4% depending on reflector material. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

  • Evaluation of screening procedures for congenital cataracts.
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Acta paediatrica (Oslo, Norway : 1992). - : Wiley. - 0803-5253 .- 1651-2227. ; 92:12, s. 1468-73
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of two different Swedish screening procedures for early detection of congenital cataracts in comparison with no screening. METHODS: Children born between January 1992 and December 1998 in Swedish regions with an established eye-screening routine procedure, diagnosed with congenital cataract, and operated on before 1 y of age, were included in a retrospective study. Age at referral and age at time of the operation were compared between regions using different screening procedures: screening in the maternity wards (Region 1), at the well-baby clinics (Region 2) and one region without any screening (Region 3). RESULTS: Seventy-two children were included in the study. Concerning early diagnosis and surgery, Region 1 differed significantly from Regions 2 and 3, which were more similar and were combined for further analysis. The difference in detected cases was greatest at 21 d of age (55% vs 18%; p < 0.001), but persisted even at 100 d of age (78% vs 64%; p < 0.02). Region 1 screening resulted in more and earlier cases detected than the other two regions (22 vs 15 per 100,000 births). In 72% of all cases, surgery was performed in response to referrals from either the maternity wards (36%), or the well-baby clinics (36%). However, half of the cases from the well-baby clinics were detected too late, i.e. at > 100 d. CONCLUSION: Eye screening in the maternity ward is preferable to well-baby clinic screening and to no screening at all, since it leads to early detection. Screening should also be performed routinely at well-baby clinics within the period when successful treatment is possible.
