  • A short guide to the theory of the sublime
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Style. - 0039-4238. ; 36:4, s. 718-737
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The article concerns selected important issues of poetics and its history. The authors analyze and interpret the history of the notion of the sublime. The article is an introduction to a theoretical part of a book about a possible theory of the literary work of art and communication that results from the experience of the sublime. The introductory article presents to the reader questions which are relevant to the sublime mainly in contemporary theoretical reflection (cf. Lyotard). The survey accounts for the period from the first century AD till twentieth century and deals with the theories of the sublime by Pseudo-Longinos, Nicolas Boileau, Edmund Burke, Immanuel Kant, Friedrich Schiller, Friedrich Georg Wilhelm Hegel, Artur Schopenhauer, Friedrich Nietzsche, J.-F. Lyotard and others.

    • Net paper readers have been shown to read deeper into articles than newspaper readers. It has also been claimed that newspaper readers rather scan than read newspapers. Do these findings mean that net paper readers read proportionally more than newspaper readers? This paper presents results showing that in fact net paper readers scan more and read less than newspaper readers. We furthermore investigate whether this result can be expained by the difference in layout, navigation structure and purpose of reading between the two media.

    • How do readers interact with net papers? Does the new medium influence our way of searching for news? Does net-paper reading differ from newspaper reading? 12 users were asked to read 2 net-papers at their own pace. The aim of the study was partly to analyse reading behaviour on the Internet, partly to understand some of the underlying rationale and motivation of the behaviour. To achieve this aim, we used a combination of three methods: (i) eye tracking, (ii) retrospective verbal protocols supported by the replay of the interaction and (iii) interview data. In our analysis, we focus both on the readers' actual interaction with net papers (their reading paths, entry points, scanning and reading activities, orienting and navigating) and on their reflections, experiences, comments and attitudes towards the new medium.

  • International growth through cooperation : Brand-driven strategies, leadership, and career development in Sweden.
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Academy of Management Executive. - 0896-3789. ; 17:1, s. 7-21
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Corporate growth is often viewed as being either internally generated or externally achieved through mergers and acquisitions (M&As). During the last decade, strategic alliances have become an increasingly popular third alternative to either internal or acquired growth. Alliances can be cheaper, more flexible, and faster than internal or M&A growth. However, they suffer from a major drawback that makes many practitioners wary, namely the difficult issue of sharing control. One of the comparative strengths of Swedish corporate culture is the ability to cooperate laterally through sharing control. Several Swedish multinational corporations such as IKEA and H&M have turned this national trait into a successful strategic growth virtue. In this article, we discuss how some important Swedish organizational, leadership, brand, and career characteristics have been combined into a powerful international growth recipe. The Swedish "growth cocktail" of combining brand-driven, forward, internal growth with resource-saving supplier alliances with minimal loss of control can be deployed by other companies of different nationalities. These complementary forward and backward expansion forms can be enhanced through matching the external brand image and internal brand identity. Pluralistic career management is also essential to sustaining such international growth combinations
