- Abstract in Undetermined In media, policymaking and research, increasing attention is drawn to the phenomenon of ‘green political consumerism’, referring to consumerrelated practices that are based on concerns beyond the traditional criteria of product quality and price. Political consumerism is about expressing non-economic values, that is, values beyond the direct, economic self-interest of consumers. Such values may concern social conditions of farmers producing our food or the welfare of animals used in food production. Green political consumerism is a concept that highlights a concern for environmental conditions, although these concerns often overlap with social and animal-related ones (Boström & Klintman 2008). Micheletti (2003) has defi ned political consumerism as consumers’ ‘individualistic collective action’, practiced, for instance, through boycotting or buycotting certain products and services. For the purpose of this chapter, it is important to mention that there is a need to keep the defi nition of political consumerism subject to continuous discussion and debate. A main claim in this chapter is that it is particularly important not to equal green political consumption merely with purchases of eco-labeled products and services. To follow such principles of consumption or to have small ecological footprints due to smaller economic resources, for example, are two very diff erent things, which should both be of interest in debates about political consumerism.

- Using 2.92 fb−1 of electron-positron annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of √s=3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, we present an improved measurement of the branching fraction B(D+ → ωe+νe)=(1.63±0.11±0.08)×10−3. The parameters defining the corresponding hadronic form factor ratios at zero momentum transfer are determined for the first time; we measure them to be rV=1.24±0.09±0.06 and r2=1.06±0.15±0.05. The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. We also search for the decay D+ → ϕe+νe. An improved upper limit B(D+ → ϕe+νe)<1.3×10−5 is set at 90% confidence level.

- Northeast China has one of the largest forested areas in China, which provides an important production base for timber and forestry by-products and is significant for maintenance of regional ecological security. This study examined the effects of forest tenure reform and government eco-environmental protection programs on forest condition change using two measures-forest area and stocking volume. Generalized spatial panel auto-regressive models were developed using data on 72 forest farms in Northeast China in 2005 and 2009. The results showed that forest condition change in the region was driven by socio-economic characteristics, geographical conditions, and forest land management policy. In particular, the forest tenure reform and government eco-environmental protection program were found to affect forest condition change. There were also strong spatial effects between neighboring forest farms, suggesting that the forest management policy of one forest farm was correlated with that of neighboring farms. When formulating and implementing forest policy, decision-makers should therefore take account of spatial effects.

First M87 Event Horizon Telescope Results. VII. Polarization of the Ring

- In 2017 April, the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) observed the near-horizon region around the supermassive black hole at the core of the M87 galaxy. These 1.3 mm wavelength observations revealed a compact asymmetric ring-like source morphology. This structure originates from synchrotron emission produced by relativistic plasma located in the immediate vicinity of the black hole. Here we present the corresponding linear-polarimetric EHT images of the center of M87. We find that only a part of the ring is significantly polarized. The resolved fractional linear polarization has a maximum located in the southwest part of the ring, where it rises to the level of similar to 15%. The polarization position angles are arranged in a nearly azimuthal pattern. We perform quantitative measurements of relevant polarimetric properties of the compact emission and find evidence for the temporal evolution of the polarized source structure over one week of EHT observations. The details of the polarimetric data reduction and calibration methodology are provided. We carry out the data analysis using multiple independent imaging and modeling techniques, each of which is validated against a suite of synthetic data sets. The gross polarimetric structure and its apparent evolution with time are insensitive to the method used to reconstruct the image. These polarimetric images carry information about the structure of the magnetic fields responsible for the synchrotron emission. Their physical interpretation is discussed in an accompanying publication.

- This work investigates the effect of chemical composition on the microstructure and properties of cast high-entropy alloys, and optimal conditions for homogenization annealing. The investigation is performed on alloys of the following compositions: Fe22.5Ni22.5Cu22.5Co22.5Al10, Fe22.5Ni22.5Cu22.5Cr22.5Al10, and Fe22.5Ni22.5Cu22.5Mn22.5Al10 (shortly Fe22.5Ni22.5Cu22.5(Co, Cr or Mn)(22.5)Al-10), melted in an induction furnace with casting into a copper mold. The structural and phase changes in high-entropy alloys of different chemical composition are examined before and after homogenization annealing. The morphology of crystalline phases and microstructural evolution are analyzed experimentally. The strength characteristics of the alloys subjected to different homogenization annealing conditions are determined.
