  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Communicating and presenting food from the past to the future. - : Örebro universitet. ; , s. 30-32
  • Bokkapitel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • The aim was to investigate links between consumer preferences and nutritional quality of heritage cereals. This was done by two initial studies within a project on heritage cereals (Formas, 2018). The studies were one literature review and one consumer study (Zamaratskaia et al., 2020; Wendin et al., 2020). The narrative literature review included 135 references and the consumer study included 434 respondents

  • Unique spectral signature of human cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma by photoacoustic imaging
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Biophotonics. - : Wiley. - 1864-063X .- 1864-0648. ; 13:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is a common skin cancer with metastatic potential. To reduce reoperations due to nonradical excision, there is a need to develop a technique for identification of tumor margins preoperatively. Photoacoustic (PA) imaging is a novel imaging technology that combines the strengths of laser optics and ultrasound. Our aim was to determine the spectral signature of cSCC using PA imaging and to use this signature to visualize tumor architecture and borders. Two-dimensional PA images of 33 cSCCs and surrounding healthy skin were acquired ex vivo, using 59 excitation wavelengths from 680 to 970 nm. The spectral response of the cSCCs was compared to healthy tissue, and the difference was found to be greatest at wavelengths in the range 765 to 960 nm (P <.05). Three-dimensional PA images were constructed from spectra obtained in the y-z plane using a linear stepper motor moving along the x-plane. Spectral unmixing was then performed which provided a clear three-dimensional view of the distribution of tumor masses and their borders.

  • Co-creating a Digital Symptom Tracker : An App as a Boundary Object in the Context of Pediatric Care
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: IFIP Advances in Information and Communication Technology. - Cham : Springer Science+Business Media B.V.. - 1868-4238. ; 660 IFIP, s. 79-93
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The rise of digital health has provided new opportunities for patients to be more actively involved in their health and wellbeing. Despite the increased use of mobile health apps, there is still a lack of research on patient self-monitoring, and few studies have focused on children with chronic diseases and their parents. In this study, we draw from a case of the design of a mobile application – a symptom tracker – to continuously monitor children with periodic fever and the theoretical concept of boundary objects, to understand the role of digital artifacts in current healthcare practice. The research approach is qualitative, building on interview data with parents and experiences from the co-design process involving researchers, physicians, and other key stakeholders. The aim of the paper is to contribute with a better understanding of how an app for tracking children’s fever (a symptom tracker) can support the pediatricians as well as the parents and their children during the treatment process. The research question is: In what ways can a symptom tracker increase stakeholder involvement and how may this affect their relationship boundaries and collaborations? Our findings suggest that the symptom tracker can be seen as a boundary object that binds the children, parents, and pediatricians treating them by connecting the app to the context of both the patients and healthcare practice. We argue that such an object (symptom tracker) can function as external support and, thereby, an essential part of the treatment process.

  • Finding a unicorn in the woods : The magic of collaborative care and resistance
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Voices from gender studies. - : Routledge.
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This chapter is a critical celebration of an academic and activist group that we call Ånge. Using memory work, we discuss our experiences of regularly meeting in Ånge, a small town located in rural northern inland Sweden. Drawing on theories of centre and periphery, safe space, slow scholarship, and feminist care, we find that safe spaces are crucial for resisting patriarchal and neoliberal demands of academia. Through Ånge we have found a more radical way of doing research. Overturning the neoliberal order within the university requires a release of unicorns—symbolising the creation of collaborative care and resistance.

  • En skola för alla, eller? : Om diskursiva dilemman i ett (o)möjligt värdegrundsprojekt
  • 2023
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The aim of this thesis is to discuss the possibility for schools in Sweden to be “a school for all”. More specifically, the study follows a four-year long project at a secondary school, aiming at implementing the idea of being “a school for all.” The Swedish education system has long engaged with the idea that education systems should be for all pupils and that teaching should be adapted according to pupils’ differentials needs. There is wide recognition for such adaptive and inclusive education within Sweden and internationally. However, there is little conceptual consensus, among scholars and educators, on the practical educational and administrative characteristics of “a school for all”. This openness means that the efforts to be ”for all” can be interpreted in different ways and be translated differently by actors within schools. This dissertation is based primarily on document analysis, observations, and interviews with actors related to the project. The study shows that “a school for all” is variously understood by school staff through discourses of rationality, giving rise to discursive dilemmas related to justice and inclusion. As the Swedish education system is founded on the notion of an “ideal” pupil, these dilemmas make “a school for all” a practical impossibility. This study contributes the conceptual framing of “a school for everyone’s learning”. This is supported by a model depicting the dimensions forming schools’ possibilities of being “for everyone’s learning”. Also, the discourses underlying the understanding of “a school for all” need to be discussed. The combination of these measures is suggested as a means to increase the possibilities of reaching an education system fit for all pupils. That is where the discussion needs to start. If it does not, it will be difficult to reach consensus regarding how the Swedish school will be “a school for all”.

  • Get a Room! How Writing Groups Aid the Development of Junior Academics’ Writing Practice and Writer Identity
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Academic Writing (JoAW). - : Coventry University, Lanchester Library. - 2225-8973. ; 10:1, s. 59-74
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The present study revisits writing retreat participants who have spontaneously formed writing groups before or after attending a retreat hosted by the Unit for Academic Language at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. All in all, 11 doctoral students and one postdoc were interviewed using a semi-structured interview model. The answers were thematically analysed based on Murray’s (2014) concept of coherence in writing groups as well as parts of Aitchison and Lee’s (2006) key characteristics of writing groups. The two main research questions posed concern (i) whether the informants have changed their writing practice and/or the way they think and feel about writing since joining a writing group, and (ii) whether possible changes have aided the development of their identity as academic writers. Results show that the informants have indeed changed central aspects of their writing practice and that this in turn has positively influenced how they now think and feel about writing. This has to some extent contributed to the informants’ development of their writer identity; however, the present study also sheds light on the fact that more needs to be done at departmental levels across the university to make academic writing visible.

  • Nordic responses to covid-19 from a health promotion perspective
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Health Promotion International. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 0957-4824 .- 1460-2245. ; 38:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • On 30 January 2020, the disease covid-19 was declared by the World Health Organization to be an international threat to human health and on 11 March 2020, the outbreak was declared a pandemic. The aim of this study was to analyse policy strategies developed by the five Nordic countries during the first 3 months of the pandemic from a health promotion perspective in order to identify Nordic responses to the crisis. Although the Nordic countries have a long tradition of co-operation as well as similar social welfare policies and legislation, each country developed their own strategies towards the crisis. The strategies identified were analysed from a health promotion perspective emanating from five principles: intersectorality, sustainability, equity, empowerment and a lifecourse perspective. Denmark, Finland and Norway had lockdowns to varying degrees, whereas Sweden and Iceland had no lockdowns. Iceland implemented a test and tracking strategy from the very beginning. All countries based their recommendations and restrictions on appeals to solidarity and trust in institutions and fellow citizens. The analysis showed that the strategies in all countries could be related to health promotion principles with some differences between the countries especially regarding equity and sustainability. The Nordic governments took responsibility for protecting their citizens by developing policy strategies based on restrictions and recommendations congruent with the principles of health promotion. The findings also identified issues that will pose challenges for future pandemic strategies.

  • Decreased Memory Bias via a Mobile Application : A Symptom Tracker to Monitor Children's Periodic Fever.
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 294, s. 915-919
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Memory bias, the tendency to rely on certain events over others, can become an issue in chronic illnesses, especially when symptoms are reported retrospectively. This paper examines a case where continuous symptom registration can be facilitated, memory supported, and memory bias reduced by introducing a mobile application. The aim of the paper is to report on the design of an app for collecting subjective data over an extended period to continuously follow children with periodic fever. The research approach is qualitative, building on interview data. The design method is co-design, a collaborative and participatory approach involving researchers, physicians and other key stakeholders, with focus on the views of the parents. We argue that collecting data continuously through an app moves the discussion from memory to the specific data points, which is illustrated through trends shown in the visualizations of the data. Moreover, we highlight the importance of systematically collecting data over an extended period through a data-driven approach to both forward clinical practice and research on complex, often chronic topics such as periodic fever, which is genuinely under-researched to date.
