- Produser interaction through fan fictions (fanfics) results in expansions of the narrow range of stories provided by the increasingly consolidated production companies, and is therefore an important contribution to meaning-making discussions about love, gender and sexualities. Fanfic authors rework the romance of Twilight in ways that question its unequal gender power relations, the abstinence and hetero-norms, and the romantic staple of one true love. Given their potential influence on commercial producers, fanfics are more than mere ‘interaction’ yet are not full ‘participation’ according to Carpentier’s AIP model.

- Fan fiction writers use an existing fictional universe to develop scenarios and characters in creative ways within the logic of the original universe. In this chapter, I examine the representations of the erotics of pain in two fan-produced, so-called femslash texts describing romantic and sexual relationships between the two vampire slayers Buffy and Faith from Joss Whedon’s TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In the ‘adult’ Buffy/Faith femslash analysed here, the authors describe pain as inextricably linked to sexual pleasure and intimacy, especially in BDSM sex scenes. Drawing on intertextual links to the TV series, such as the preternatural resilience of Slayer bodies which can take extreme amounts of pain, the fanfic writers create graphic descriptions of safe, sane and consensual BDSM as key elements in Buffy and Faith’s relationship. I argue that such representations are transgressive in that they break the rules of how sexualities can be represented in the prime-time TV series the two female characters are borrowed from. Furthermore, they subvert stereotypical ideas about female desire and sexual behaviour as ‘passive’ or ‘vanilla’. The potential for transgression may explain fan writers’ attraction to Buffy/Faith femslash centring on BDSM relations as well as readers’ interest in these stories.

In this paper, I examine the representations of the erotics of pain in two fan-produced, so-called femslash texts describing romantic and sexual BDSM-oriented relationships between the two super powered slayers Buffy and Faith from Joss Whedon’s TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer.I argue that the fan-produced graphic, hard-core descriptions of safe, sane and consensual BDSM involving Buffy and Faith are transgressive in that they break the rules of how sexualities can be represented in the prime-time TV series that the two female characters are borrowed from. Furthermore, they challenge stereotypical ideas about female sexual behaviour as ‘vanilla’. The potential for transgression may explain fan writers’ attraction to Buffy/Faith femslash centring on BDSM relations and the resulting depicted transgressions may account for and readers’ interest in these stories.

- Le premier roman de Marie Darrieussecq, best-seller traduit dans plus de 40 langues, a fait couler beaucoup d’encre depuis le débat qu’il provoqua en France dès sa parution en 1996. Si le sujet du débat était alors surtout la question de savoir si Truismes était de bonne ou de mauvaise qualité littéraire, les questions soulevées depuis, par un grand nombre de chercheurs et chercheuses, relèvent plutôt du domaine de l’interprétation. Ce récit à la première personne d’une jeune femme graduellement transformée en truie tandis que la société qui l’entoure devient totalitaire ressemble fort à une satire, une fable ou une allégorie comportant des traits socio-critiques évidents, constatent les chercheurs à l’unanimité. A la question de savoir quels aspects de cette France dystopique sont visés, les avis sont partagés. La perspective très restreinte de la narratrice naïve brouille les pistes, en privant le lecteur d’indices textuels signalant clairement ce qui est censé être ironique ou pas. En outre, les thèmes du corps féminin et de la sexualité – exercée par ou sur une femme – sont particulièrement aptes à produire des lectures divergentes, semble-t-il.Parmi les ouvrages universitaires, on retrouve donc des approches diverses de Truismes. Une tendance s’esquisse cependant clairement, à savoir la volonté de lire Truismes, en entier ou en partie, à la lumière des théories féministes. Je me propose d’analyser laréception universitaire de Truismes avec une attention particulière, d’une part, aux positions idéologiques relevées par les critiques dans ce roman et, d’autre part, leurs propres partis pris idéologiques explicites ou implicites.
