- The purpose of this paper is, first, to describe the organization, sampling procedures, availability of samples/database, ethical considerations, and quality control program of the Northern Sweden Health and Disease Study Cohort. Secondly, some examples are given of studies on cardiovascular disease and diabetes with a focus on the biomarker programme. The cohort has been positioned as a national and international resource for scientific research.

- Denna rapport innehåller texter som presenterats vid en konferens arrangerad inom ramen för Nätverk för barnomsorgsforskningi . Syftet med konferensen var att lyfta upp begreppet omsorg, diskutera dess innebörd, rädda det från retorisk förflackning och samtidigt via dess koppling till verksamheter belysa ett vidare sammanhang. När bamforskning diskuteras har jag på senare tid funnit det väsentligt att peka på att den har en kapacitet att kasta ljus över centrala samhällsfrågor. Forskning om barn bör inte bara vara en forskning om en viss grupp i samhället. Den nyare bamdomsforskningen söker tillämpa ett bamperspektiv. Detta innebär att fenomen studeras såsom de framstår från barnens perspektiv och att inverkan av olika sociala reformer, politiska förändringar och produktion av varor på barns liv belyses. Det handlar alltså både om att söka efter barnens perspektiv och att söka efter konsekvenserna för barnen av olika samhälleliga förändringar. Nya fålt som t.ex. barndomshistoria, barndomssociologi och barndomsantropologi har uppstått och begreppet generation har införts för att markera vikten av att anlägga ett generationsperspektiv på frågor som vanligtvis grupperats på annat sätt.

- The Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (Högskoleförordning, 1993) outlines a set of goals for the education of preschool teachers. These goals state that education should help student teacher's [1] to develop a capacity for identifying and working with issues of an existential, ethical, ecological, international and cultural character in preschool. Previous research (Hartman, 1986; Johansson, 1992; Pramling & Johansson, 1995) indicates that preschool teachers find children's questions about life complicated to handle. The purpose of the present study is threefold. First, an empirical study aims to find out and describe students' perspectives of childrens' questions about life, that is, children's search for meaning in their experience of living. Second, an intervention study aims to develop student's competence in working with preschool childrens' questions about life and to offer students a phenomenographical oriented pedagogy to use in their future work. Finally, we want to compare these student teacher's ways of experencing with student teacher's involved in a traditional oriented pedagogy at another university. The results show a significant change in the preschool teacher trainees' expereinces of what they consider childrens' questions about life and the strategies for working with these questions in preschool. After the intervention study was completed, the students emphasised the importance of finding the child's point of view and of tackling the child's questions together. The student teachers found that their roles and the questions were a tool for helping children develop their thinking and understand the world around them.

- As globalisation of economy is developing, the value of “human capital” was discovered as one of the solid basics for sustainable entrepreneurship in a knowledge-based society. Accordingly, the relevance of Participation and Empowerment (P&E) among management approaches has increased significantly. In this anthology, 26 authors from six European countries, networking in the “International Society for Participation and Empowerment (InSPE)”, are presenting for the first time their experiences with P&E collected over years as entrepreneurs, consultants or researchers. InSPE is an international association founded 1994 with its registered office in Gothenburg (Sweden). The members come from all over Europe (Sweden, Germany, Italy, Austria, France, Finland, Denmark etc.); they are mainly consultants, researchers or company executives. The purpose of InSPE is „to push (P&E) in companies, public institutions and other organisations. P&E must become an essential part of design, planning and management of processes and structures in business and social systems.” – The volume at hand is published on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of InSPE.
