  • Photocatalytic activity of TiO2 deposited by reactive HiPIMS with long target-to-substrate distance
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Surface & Coatings Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0257-8972 .- 1879-3347. ; 467
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Reactive High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering (HiPIMS) of TiO2 thin films was carried out to investigate the influence of ion parameters and the deposition temperature on the film crystallinity and photocatalytic performance. In order to limit unintentional substrate heating, a deposition setup with long target-to-substrate distance was used. Different HiPIMS pulse configurations, deposition temperatures and substrate bias were evaluated. TiO2 films prepared by pulsed dc magnetron sputtering were used as reference. Films deposited at room temperature were all found to be X-ray amorphous, and a minimum temperature of 200 degrees C was needed for film crystallization irrespective of the mode of operation. This is attributed to the relatively long target-to -substrate distance of 180 mm used in this work. The growth of a specific polymorph was shown to be depen-dent on the operation mode, where a high oxygen partial pressure was ideal for anatase formation. The pho-todegradation rates were, as expected, found to be highest for crystalline samples, where single-and mixed-phase films yielded similar rates. Furthermore, the photodegradation rates of HiPIMS films deposited without substrate heating could be enhanced up to 3 times as compared to the corresponding pulsed dc reference film. The ion assistance in HiPIMS is also beneficial at moderate temperatures, here 200 degrees C, where an improved crystallinity as compared to pdcMS, was observed.

  • Software programmer productivity : A complementary-based research model
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 25th European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS), Guimarães, Portugal, June 5-10, 2017. - : Association for Information Systems. - 9780991556700 ; , s. 2755-2766
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The identification of the factors that condition a software programmer’s productivity remains a key challenge for both scholars and practitioners. While a number of studies have focused on the impact of one or a few particular factors, the way these factors jointly condition programmer productivity is still unknown. This paper presents a conceptual model aimed at a comprehensive understanding of the factors that complement each other to govern the productivity of a software programmer. The model is based on complementarity theory and its systems approach and addresses an individual worker’s productivity, which accounts for cognitive, technological, and organizational characteristics. The analyzed factors are organized into a system of complementarities, offering two propositions that specify the conditions of a programmer’s productivity. The model’s key contribution lies in its unique configuration of two systems of complementarities, which have the potential to add to the literature on the productivity of software programmers. The proposed model can be employed as a guidance for the design of empirical investigations of the conditions of individual software programmers’ productivity as well as information worker productivity in general.

  • A Multi-scalar Approach to Place Branding : The 150th Anniversary of Italian Unification in Turin
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: European Planning Studies. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0965-4313 .- 1469-5944. ; 23:3, s. 597-615
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Abstract This study draws from an interpretation of scale as a social construct to elaborate a multi-scalar approach to place branding that represents a growing set of theories and managerial practices aimed at leveraging the reputational capital of places. The article unveils that far from consisting of clear-cut processes which occur within a pre-given and fixed set of scalar boundaries, city, regional, country and supra-national brandings actually converge in a complex mechanism of intertwined practices and discourses. By grounding its theoretical investigation in a case study about the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Italian unification, this paper furthers the understanding of place branding from a multi-level perspective, addressing the tendency of previous studies to treat scale as a fixed hierarchy of nested levels. The findings show that scalar boundaries remain significant for the purpose of coordination and identification among the institutional actors involved. And yet, the investigation highlights that scalar boundaries do not constitute a structure of ontologically given contexts, but rather are the outcome of an ongoing dialectic process among place stakeholders through which scalar relations are constantly reproduced and nurtured during the staging of the place branding project.

  • Molecular engineering of a thermostable carbohydrate-binding module
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Biocatalysis and Biotransformation. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1029-2446 .- 1024-2422. ; 24:1-2, s. 31-37
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Structure-function studies are frequently practiced on the very diverse group of natural carbohydrate-binding modules in order to understand the target recognition of these proteins. We have taken a step further in the study of carbohydrate-binding modules and created variants with novel binding properties by molecular engineering of one such molecule of known 3D-structure. A combinatorial library was created from the sequence encoding a thermostable carbohydrate-binding module, CBM4-2 from a Rhodothermus marinus xylanase, and phage-display technology was successfully used for selection of variants with specificity towards different carbohydrate polymers (birchwood xylan, Avicel (TM), ivory nut mannan and recently also xyloglucan), as well as towards a glycoprotein (human IgG4). Our work not only generated a number of binders with properties that would suite a range of biotechnological applications, but analysis of selected binders also helped us to identify residues important for their specificities.
