  • Soliton interaction penalty reduction by receiver filtering
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: IEEE Photonics Technology Letters. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 1041-1135 .- 1941-0174. ; 10:7, s. 1042-1044
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present the first detailed numerical study of the impact of receiver low-pass filtering in soliton interaction-limited communication systems. We propagate 40-Gb/s pseudorandom bit sequences (PRBS's) of 28-1 solitons up to one soliton collision distance (Zc-) and optimize the filter bandwidth to minimize the interaction induced eye opening penalty. The distance at 0.5-dB penalty is increased over 40% through filtering. The penalty is essentially pulsewidth independent when considering distances normalized by Zc. We also show that PRBS's of at least 28 - 1 solitons are required to accurately simulate random data.

  • Benchmarking an intelligent network prototype implemented in parallel Erlang
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: High-Performance Computing and Networking. - Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin/Heidelberg. - 9783540611424 - 9783540499558 ; , s. 905-906
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have adapted the Erlang language for MIMD computers using PVM for communication. We have then used an Erlang application, the Intelligent Network Prototype, to demonstrate the usefulness and performance of the Erlang version.

  • Soliton Stability in PMD Perturbed Transmission Systems
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: New Trends in Optical Soliton Transmission Systems. - Dordrecht : Springer Netherlands. - 9789401151412 ; , s. 25-37
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This paper presents a detailed investigation of how solitons broaden in the presence of polarization-mode dispersion (PMD). For a given degree of PMD and pulse width there exists an optimum choice of group-velocity dispersion, for which solitons are most resistant to the effects of PMD. We also optimize the soliton power enhancement factor and find that solitons can propagate roughly twice the distance compared to linear pulses in the absence of group-velocity dispersion. Finally we investigate the PMD robustness of dispersion managed solitons, and in the case simulated we find no quantitative difference as compared to conventional solitons.

  • Implementation of a bit-serial FFT processor with a hierarchical control structure
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Proc. 1995 European Conf. on Circuit Theory and Design, ECCTD'95. ; , s. I-423-I-426
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A 128-point FFT/IFFT processor has been designed and implemented in a standard CMOS process using the TSPC logic style. The processor uses a high  performance bit-serial SIC architecture and calculates an FFT in 58 ms. A structured technique to derive a  hierarchical control structure from the pseudo-code for the FFT has been used, resulting in a control unit implemented  as a set of co-operating bit-serial control processors. The computational requirements are met using only one butterfly-PE and two RAMs.

  • Digital IF filter for mobile radio
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Proc. Nordic Radio Symposium, NRS'95. ; , s. 271-276
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A multirate IF filter for mobile radio has been implemented in silicon. The filter consists of a decimation stage followed by a bandpass filter. Both parts use a lattice wave digital structure. The design and implementation are described beginning with the filter specification and proceed through algorithmic design, operations scheduling, and resource allocation and assignment. Every step tries to minimize the amount of resources in the final implementation, thereby reducing power consumption. Finally the architecture is selected and the system is described using synthesizable VHDL in order to arrive at a chip layout using standard-cell technology. This design technique is used to reduce the design work.

  • Scheduling of data-independent recursive algorithms
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Proc. 1995 European Conf. on Circuit Theory and Design, ECCTD'95. ; , s. II-855-II-858
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A new scheduling formulation for data independent recursive algorithms is proposed. This formulation is intuitive and finds a static rate optimal schedules. Processing elements may be non-preemptive and non-homogenous. Comparison with some other common scheduling methods to increase throughput is made.

  • Impact of polarisation-mode dispersion in dispersion-managed soliton systems
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Electronics Letters. - : Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). - 1350-911X .- 0013-5194. ; 34:11, s. 1122-1124
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Since enhanced power solitons are usually applied in dispersion-managed soliton systems, it might be expected that dispersion-managed solitons have a stronger resistance to polarisation-mode dispersion than conventional solitons. However, it is shown that dispersion-managed solitons behave similarly to conventional solitons in terms of resistance to polarisation-mode dispersion.
